I just watched that Uncharted video. What a gimmick-fest. Not exactly an inspiring use of the hardware and I don't see why anyone would want to keep covering Uncharted's graphics up with their fat fingers, nor keep switching fingers and hands around to accomodate four different control inputs. Screams of crowbarring in features for the hell of it.

Nah, even if it costs that much to make Sony will be selling it at a substantial loss. I doubt they'll launch for more than the top price of a PS3. £299, tops.

£399 is more in line with iPad pricing.

I think it's gonna be higher than people think.

I would love for it to be £299

@ Spacehost...

Its fair enough i suppose. A game already showcased before screams of the same woes that the PSP had but we all knew then that the PSP couldn't do anything else. The video

in this game and other games highlighted proves the PSP2 can do much more. That Pool demo looke quite cool with you pulling on the stick with your finger.

And Alex has a fair point - to be able to play PS3 games on the move is just scratching the surface. No doubt we'll be able to transfer data between games too - stuff we've already seen, but nice to have anyway and far more satisfying now we have two sticks.

But like i say, i think we're just scratching the surface given its host of control modes.

Worth pointing out there are two SKUs, one with and one without 3G. I'd suggest that we'll get a wifi only one for £250-280, and the 3G version for £300-350.

the swing looked awful and the swipe to jump over the log would be really annoying... a nice wee swipe of the rear touchpad though would work.

That would be cool if that's the case. £250 for a WiFi one would be spot on and a day one purchase from me.

I just expect Sony to bend me over a bit more than that!

No mention of any kind of 3D implementation. Interesting, considering how hard they're pushing it in every other format.

It was mentioned that they consider it unsuitable for handheld gaming, they see 3D as a more 'social' event to watch gathered round a big screen with others. Whether that is true is another matter - battery life, maximising the graphic output (to differentiate from the other handhelds) and the desire to go with the OLED touch screen probably had something to do with it.

299 minimum for the non 3G one.. absolute minimum.

more likely 330-350 quid I reckon.

Eurogamer: That was my next question – what are you going to do to stop people simply porting games across to it? If it's that powerful that you could bring a PS3 game across quite easily...

Andrew House: To be honest, the publishers that I've spoken to have generally indicated that they don't think that that's satisfactory for the consumer. To try and ask the consumer just to re-purchase an existing console experience – I don't think we or they feel that is really going to be the correct strategy.

Where I think it does become really interesting is if publishers, including ourselves, start to think of franchises more holistically. So, here's Uncharted; here's the dedicated PS3 experience and that's what this needs to be; here's a network aspect to Uncharted and that's what that needs to be; and here's the portable offshoot or adjunct to that, and here's what that needs to be. But they're all working together to enhance a franchise.

We were delighted that Philip [Earl, Activision suit] was able to be with us today and to stake a commitment that they've already seen that opportunity for Call of Duty and taking an extension of the most powerful-selling franchise around right now.

Hmm...

right so publishers think it poor form to have the customer re-purchase an existing title.

But its okay to port that title (that looks and sounds the same) but with different controls?

I'm not so sure about that. I hope we don't get a glut of games that just use different controls for the sake of it.
