I'm keen for a coalition, let me know your username when you sign up and I'll set one up. I'm a couple of days in to a mildly successful town just mow though, may be a few days until I'm ready to start a new game. Or I might die2nite. Who knows :)

*edit* that was to schnibbles, I'll get a coalition set up and send you an invite wickedkitten.

This is good stuff. Very simple game really, but it's the interactions, planning and sharing of items and ideas (or the opposite!) that make it work so well. It's a bit of effort to work out all the concepts, items and constructions and stuff, but if you're in a town with players who know what their doing (without being overly bossy) then you learn fast. My first town was a disaster - no one shut the gates on the first night, everyone built random stuff, 20 people waited outside at night

My current town is off to a promising start, should survive at least a week. Already had some guy berating me for making a flash grenade, but I have a feeling it will come in handy. I don't do very much exploring, just tend to go out to the immediate surrounds and pick up things other players have dropped on the way home. http://die2nite.hoah.org/vKH We're already out of food, though.

I just found a piece of iron. Just one more's needed to get the Workshop started. Thing is though, as much as I understand that a Workshop is a valuable investment for the long-term, I'm thinking we may have a more pressing issue in the short-term. Town's defence right now is 33. According to the Watchtower, the estimated strength of tonight's attack is, um.. 60 to 85.

That's SIXTY to EIGHTY-FIVE.

Gonna be a messy night.

I also found a large locked chest that 'almost certainly has something valuable inside it'. Proper treasure! There's no screwdriver or can-opener to get it open though. :hmm:

Yeah, I think we're gonna die2nite, unfortunately my rush into the desert this morning turned up little more than a can of food, some scrap metal, and a water pistol.

It's been very difficult to find wrought iron in this game, plus the zombie numbers seem very high. Still, in best British tradition we mustn't grumble as our intestines are eaten like licorice ropes.

Shit.

I've had the good fortune to spend the last 4 days in a very organised town (75th in the tables, apparently), and in my eagerness to contribute to the effort I've gotten myself surrounded, bitten and exhausted out in the middle of nowhere.

I've at least let the team know not to bother attempting a rescue, and listing my inventory should they need the items.

Miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiike! Well, I just used all my AP and water ration dragging dead bodies out the village. It's not enough though :(

I saw that, sterling work. :)

I was terrified after the attack so snatched one of the valuable valium shots from the bank, not sure if people will report me over that.

My town is in trouble - day 4, we have 31 people alive and haven't had a zombie inside the town yet, but we have between 210 and 300 Zombies coming, with our defences at 112. We're pretty well organised so we might make it if the Zombies come in at the low end of that number.

This is extremely addictive.

Isn't it? All the elements work very well together. I was annoyed at trolls at first but now I wouldn't be without them. There's always a selfish arsehole or two in zombie films, making decisions that put everyone in danger, and it adds a nice bit of dramatic tension here. One guy was shunned after building a hovel for himself, so he's gone out to salvage every day, brought back supplies and used them to upgrade his hovel to a shack. He's always careful to get back in nice and early too so no-one can 'accidentally' lock him outside. :D

Yeah, it's amazing how well it all comes together (in a decent town). We have a rather amusingly bad troll, who is trying to sabotage us but failing. He's stolen a couple of semi-useful items, though, and is now resorting to begging for trades for them for planks on the forum! I presume he wants a plank to upgrade his house, but I'm not sure. He's not gone outside in days, as he knows we'll rob him.

With some thought and subtlety you could do it quite cleverly and succesfully, I think - especially since you can lead insurrections - but building a hovel first day dooms you if you're trying to play it that way. What you want to do is take a vital item from the bank right before the gate closes to stop a critical construction, before you get shunned and can't access it any more.

We're trying to get three defensive buildings constructed (as well as a pit upgrade project) today. Spiked Pit, Screaming Saws (which we were all against building on day 3!), and something else. Ambitious, but we just got spiked pit done v. fast. Probably need to keep most people in town working or building, and call off any extraneous expeditions.

Just reading the forums of my town, with loads of people going OMG NEWBIES DON'T BUILD THE WATCHTOWER (it got built anyway) and general confusion and lack of leadership - it would really work brilliantly if there was a mechanism for private towns. There's something approaching that, I believe, if you sign up to be a 'Hero' but making you pay for that functionality is a bit much.

Well there's an element of luck of the draw. My town is so good, we succesfully added 100 def on day 4 and survived 225 zombies attacking without a scratch (alas, one guy didn't get back indoors in time). Fewer zombies predicted for the next attack, so we can focus on productivity upgrades.

We have a few 'wise' players who were on the beta sharing their experience and advice, but no leaders per se, and everyone is well organised while having lots of healthy debate. When it works like this it's just brilliant.

This town could last a while.

BTW, once you get 100 Soul Points you will only be put in games with other players with 100 points, which should mean everyone is pretty good.

looking at these rankings, you can see that there are plenty of good, well organised players. One town is currently on 16 days survived, with 35 people still alive. http://die2nite.hoah.org/town (My town is #60 \o/)

We were number 38, the Archaic canyons of lepers, it might be higher today (7 days so far) but I got killed during the raid tonight :(
