deerokus
I wish I'd seen this before I joined my new town. After two fairly succesful ones I have a town of idiots who are shouting at each other, hoarding items, filing complaints on each other for minor insults, building hovels, then built watchtower before workshop, which left us short of the iron for workshop I brought back tons of useful items too, which will no doubt be wasted
Kinketsu
Shiiiit. I ended up as the gatekeeper tonight and shut them as usual about 10-15 minutes before the attack. Two guys locked outside, one of our most active members and one other hero, but they were both offline when I shut the gates. THEN the active player guy comes back, just right after I locked them! I already used my hero action so I can't teleport him back inside, and we have a portal lock so he's shut out for good. Depressingly, he's around to communicate with us on the forum as we count down to him getting killed. Feel like a total shit What a great game

Alan Stock
Day 13 in The Chambers of Sadness. The last few days, us 18 survivors have been holding off the hordes with temporary emergency defences, whilst our water supplies dwindle to nothing. We used explosives to give ourselves another day or two of water, but in the long run it's futile. We've built most of the regular constructions but can't any more because of a lack of Nuts and Bolts and concrete. The world outside the town is infested with zombies, to travel anywhere you need teams of 4 or 5 people - which in holiday season is almost impossible to arrange. Our weaponry supplies are very low, and the best weapon is water, which we need so desperately. Today though, we went out on a heroic, last ditch mission through the hordes to try and get supplies. We got within one square of some undepleted zones, in the hopes of finding some nuts and bolts or concrete, but there were too many zombies and we had used all our ammunition. We couldn't risk going into an unexplored area, if there were too many zombies we'd all be trapped and our town would die without us. So we had to return back, heads down, with only wood and metal. Enough to erect some more temporary defences but in the long term, we know it's over. There are only 5 supplies of water left in the well, and 18 survivors, many of whom are already dehydrated from trekking through the desert or donating their water to construct our water defences. The zombie attack tonight, if we're unlucky, could be 40 more zombies than we can withstand - enough to eat most of us in our sleep. We're now erecting our last defences, and upgrading our measly shacks to hovels for a bit of extra defence. But even if we survive tonight's zombie hordes, we're out of water tomorrow and upgrades may not sustain us in time. On top of that, we have used all our weaponry, so we can only go outside in massive groups for supplies, and most areas near our town are depleted. Without water we can't get far out where there might be good stuff. We're trapped. The last cyanide was used by the murderer in our midst last week. So we face death by the ravenous zombie hordes or simply thirst. The sun sets and we heave our tired bodies to the last bit of construction. I wonder if we'll Die2Night...

therearerules
Christ on a bike, another stupid ass town where people just wander off into zombies, build hovels and anything which isn't the workshop, don't communicate, complain, or get involved. I think I might just kill myself again
Garibaldi
Yes, it somehow takes the shine off being a hero when you're rescuing people who then just blunder into another nest of zombies five minutes later. I think I'll try to vet the next selection of towns by seeing how many of the population have some experience. Playing with these lemmings is just too depressing. Kinketsu
If you play 4 or 5 good towns, you should get enough to get into the 100+ soul level towns. I've had 3 good ones, and a couple of real stinkers, so I reckon I'll be in the 100+ towns on my next resurrection as the Dreaming Town of Summer is now into Day 8. It'll be interesting to see if things are any better in the big leagues, or if there is just more arguing from the 'higher tier' players!
therearerules
I think you need to join a town straight after the zombie onslaught. I just joined one, somebodies posted plan expeditions to avoid having to waste AP on rescuing folk a lot of people are just on autosearch nearby, a lot of people have avatars (a good sign), and because it's almost straight away nobody's built the watchtower yet! Garibaldi
You split the coalition, tarules! *shakes fist* Heh, no problem though. Me and microphone have joined another town, this one seems pretty good with a couple of heros taking charge early on and very few newbs. Fingers crossed. therearerules
Well we've got our external map detailing what's dropped where up and running, and people are organising expeditions sensibly. Let's see who outlives who.
Fireproofradiator
The world outside the town is infested with zombies, to travel anywhere you need teams of 4 or 5 people - which in holiday season is almost impossible to arrange. Just to confirm this is my favorite sentence of 2011 so far. Our RLLMUK-ed coalition town could go either way. We're already starting to run low on water - hoping the pump'll be finished tomorrow - but we've got the workshop done and everyone's pretty active. Apart from an initial jihad declared on someone for stealing chewing gum it's been pretty harmonious, and I've cracked and subscribed for hero status for a month too, so that's good news from devs pov!
Alan Stock
Oh well, I died in the Chambers of Sadness on day 14. I was out scavenging close to gate closing time, and the map interface wouldn't load up properly on my computer. It wouldn't load in the arrows and zombies, so I couldn't get back home! I was torn alive by the ravenous hordes at midnight... noooooo! A huge attack is on the way tonight (1150+ zombies) so I'll be surprised if they make it past tonight anyway. Just goes to show how far you can get with a good team! Now, time to take mukville to victory!
therearerules
Well, workshop, wathctower and great wall strengthened all on day 1. We'll definately survive the attack and are already discussing what to build tomorrow and planning expeditions. Unfortunately we've only 1.5 days worth of water left (after 1 day), so can see arguments popping up about that soon. But until then we live. Kinketsu
I think this game is fascinating as a social experiment. For at least four or five days, people have been saying we were going to die the next day, that everything is hopeless (of course, that's part of the point of the game!) which leads them to do crazy things. Some of the people who, by luck and not trying to help others, have lived the longest are still with us, doomsaying every day. I don't know how other survivors feel but it's really made me WANT for me to die, or them at least. Some people who were useful citizens suddenly turned selfish, even at day 5 or so (we are heading into day 11). Others went out to just walk themselves to death in the desert somewhere on some demented errand. It's interesting to see how people react in even a stupid web browser game when they get the sinking feeling of things breaking down.
Daley
Epic two man rescue mission today. One guy got stuck surrounded by seven zombies but had a battery launcher. I had a battery at home so I brought him that with another guy, he killed one and all three of us rescued another guy who was stuck before all returning to town. I think we are screwed tonight though. 69 defences and 150 or so zombies on the way...

donpeartree
Just started playing this the other day, and it seems pretty cool, but my first town leaves something to be desired.. On day 1, I did my best to find out what I can about the game but apparently others did not, spending valuable resources on a portal lock and armour plating. The watchtower was also built on day 1. Also, 9 people wondered outside and never returned (despite the fact that most of them were able to). On day 2, I wondered into a horde of 4 zombies early in the day, put out a help request, but nobody had responded by evening so I had to flee. Lost my eye which made the search for resources on the way back to town pretty ineffective. Still no workshop built and I only found 1 piece of wrought iron, meaning we still needed 5 more. Nobody else found any (or at least dropped it into the bank). I shut the gates with about 5 minutes to spare and only 2 people were left outside. The prediction said that between 25 and 50 zombies would come - and 48 arrived, killing a further 8. Which meant that at the start of day 3 (today), we'd lost 19 out of the 40 civilians. Approaching night now and nobody has found anymore wrought iron so far. And I also caught an infection in the night. I hope it kills me if the zombies don't. Inept Pig
Your experience sounds uncannily similar to mine; even with some more experienced players offering guidance and advice we still ended up with the Watchtower, Portal Lock and Armour Plating all built before the end of day one - and then - left the gates open... It was not an inspiring start, and from a town of 40 we now have very few useful players left (quite a few are terrorised) and absolutely no chance of surviving the night - after a mere two days. I bought a Hero upgrade at the start of this town as I wanted to have a fighting chance of my town surviving a bit longer; doesn't seem to help much when other people don't pull in the same direction though. I think the blood rushed to my head and I assumed if I forged a path to resource rich areas then folk would follow in my wake, unfortunately this meglomaniacal fantasy turned out not to be true and I've needed bailing out two days in a row now. Must try harder. It seems we won't survive tonight, even if someone is desperate enough to use the EMS system. We just haven't found enough alcohol for that extra AP boost in a pinch.
