Freeloader Problems

I've imported my cube and so far only played imported titles. I did however ordered the Animal Crossing pack including freeloader. Recently I got a copy of SSX3, a pal version. To my surprise freeloader doesn't support pal games on a Japanese cube. Is there a trick, another freeloader, or is it just not possible? A pretzel for the one who solves this.

Have you tried all the boot methods? Try opening the lid, and pressing Z to bring up a menu before you put the disc in.

Which version of Freeloader is it? 1.4 or 1.6B ?

I don't really know the version (I thought 1.6, but I'm not at home right now )

And in what way it doesn't work? There aren't many options. Load freeloader, pop the game in when it asks for it and a black screen is the result. Loading American games on my Jap cube works fine.

Do people just avoid instruction manuals these days? Its not as if the freeloader has a terribly big one.

1: Boot up GC with FL inside - wait till screen and swap disc.

2: Boot up GC with FL, wait will FL screen emerges and tap 'Z', brining up the three regions. Choose one, swap disc, voila.

I can't remember the other one, someone please enlighten.

Sounds like a 1.06b issue... try this:

1) Turn on the cube, no disc

2) Open door and stick in the Freeloader

3) Press start to boot it up, and hold 'B'

4) Continue holding 'B' and press 'Z'

5) Select the region (continue to hold 'B')

6) Open the drive, take the disc out

7) Pop in SSX and close the drive (holding 'B')... touch wood (oo-er) you're get something up on screen.

...that probably reads like a lot of work, but it is straight forward enough. If that doesn't work, you're buggered.

Not sure how PAL saves work on a Japanese cube though... probably best to go out and get an NTSC version or a PAL cube.

Your right. In fact my freeloader doesn't have a manual at all. Pretty hard to avoid it then huh...

Ikaruga and magic l0rd; Thanks for the advice, I didn't know that was possible. It sounds like one of these options must work.

Another method which might work is...

1) Start up the gamecube with no disc inserted

2) Put in the freeloader disc

3)Go to gameplay on the GC's main menu and a freeloader graphic should be displayed, DOn't push A.

4)Take the freeloader disc out and insert the game you want to play, THe game's graphic should display.

5) Push A now and then start to load the game as usual.

The freeloader doesn't have a manual. And generally it doesn't need one.

Sorry, but I am not in "Freeloader Instruction Manual" mode today.

However, I reckon that the Freeloader instruction manual might be more compliant.

If you didn't get a manual, then you ought to have words with your supplier - and then read the Freeloader website. And, indeed, a quick search on Google would help.

I deffo have to use the 'holding down B' thing when playing UK games on a US cube, or it's B&W and crazy picture all the way

Reading this gave me some hope =( I thought it would play my B&W games in colour ie 50hz games like Mario Party 4. Following these instructions it still remained in colour. Ah well ill have to wait to i can get a ntsc compatable tv.

I've tried to get Resident Evil 0, Mario Kart and Metroid Prime (all PAL) to work on my US Cube and never got any of them to work at all.

I can't get my pal zelda collection working on my ntsc us cube.

I've not tried the holding down b thing though.

I've got a JAP Cube modded to play US games but the switch at the back snapped off at the weekend so it'll only play US games.

I'm getting a Freeloader so I can play my JAP games but does anyone know of any problems loading up JAP games on a US Cube using Freeloader 1.6b?

Its kind of snapped off and fallen inside the GC and I think you need a special screwdriver to open it up.

I just thought a Freeloader might be a bit easier seeing as I only have about 3 JAP games.

Yes, certain Japanese games (Zelda, Doshin, Mr Driller - off the top of my head) refuse to save to a US/PAL format memory card (and a GameCube running in US mode will always produce US format memory cards, freeloader or no freeloader).

Edit: Oh, and F-Zero has other issues that you need an Action Replay disk to solve.

ha ha - a boot disk for a boot disk - sounds fun!

I think I remember hearing that the UK GameBoy Player boot disk worked with the Japanese GameBoy Player, and that you could trick Nintendo into sending you a "replacement" one.

Is this the latest Freeloader available for the Gamecube (link to latest one if not please). I know I'm a little late, but I really want to play Paper Mario, Pikmin 2, Harvest Moon: MM, Chibi Robo amongst others without having to pay £30+ each for the preowned version.
