Would anyone be interested in buying my decks for MTG 2014?

I have a a starter deck, Theros Tournament Deck, some other Theros deck, plus they all came with a couple of foil packs (have been opened, but no clue as to what is valuable, or anything like that).

I would put in the trading folder, but have no clue as to value.

What are the foils that you opened?

Hey Guys,

I have:

post-10835-0-16986900-1385210020_thumb.j

Theros: Inspiring Heros Event Deck - Right of Photo
Theros: Face The Hydra Challenge Deck - Bottom Left
Two Open Decks - Top

What do you mean about the colour combinations?

I think the open packs are Lightforce Intro and another one that I am not sure on...sorry.

Sometimes when there is more than one deck released as part of a set, they have their colour combinations printed on the box. The Theros one is blue/white as it contains blue and white cards, as daft as that sounds.

I'll totally have the event deck - what do you want for it? Could also be interested in the other decks but it depends on what's in them!

As somebody who really enjoys Magic, but only ever plays draft because the standard game is so ridiculously expensive to keep up with I find myself wondering - what are you all talking about when you mention "pauper"?

I'll try and log in over the weekend for pauper. Should have some extras you can have. Username is MrParka (I think!)

Pauper is just Commons, or it has to have been a common once so there are a few uncommons in pauper. Called pauper because you can have competitive decks for pennies

Cheers:) I'll jump on at some point today and add you. I've grabbed a load of free cards and built my first pauper deck! It has literally no synergy and mostly consists of cards I liked the look of:)

Also, did anyone else do born of the gods prerelease? Green has a "ferocious badger" card now:) definitely building a badger deck at some point.

Do you guys play any variations of pauper? I'm very fond of pauper EDH (uncommon commander, all commons) and my local group occasionally has standard pauper tournaments, which are a little ruined by the number of people that simply netdeck.

Where are you located? I'm interested in getting into pauper, I figure it'll be just as much fun without the eyebleedingly high prices.

Been going to dark sphere in Lambeth for games, there's some kind of trading outfit there at weekends now, offering 25 crap/marked/common cards for £2, it's a lovely way to browse if you're a noob like me:) now i just need a coherent plan instead of my usual "ooh, that looks nice!" approach.

In other news, I've just realised that 'barrage of expendables' and 'traitorous instinct' can be combined to reach whole new levels of dickishness:) (next week: I discover 'mana' can pay for 'creatures'!)

IIRC the traders at Dark Sphere are the guys behind Xtremetrades in Colchester - Nick Taylor and co. They are top men and I would not hesitate to recommend them.

I've run WoWTCG events at the Colchester store and have done a little bit of writing for their site too, and it never ceases to amaze me how often they just get everything right :)

(I am in no way financially linked to Xtremetrades - just a big fan of the way they do stuff)

Just finished my first ever constructed game night! And my noob red white deck didn't lose every game:) I've learned that I like tokens+ barrage, so I'll be focusing more on that. So much potential for messing with an opponent when you can damage anything they own at instant speed.

I also got my arse kicked by a proper control deck for the first time; demoralising but educational:

I started playing Magic [again] in May 2012 and looking back at my first posts about the local scene, it's hard to imagine what I was like. I didn't know anyone, I didn't recognise any of the terms, let alone the shorthand, and my interest extended only as far as to being thrifty and casual. Skip forward nearly two years and I attended my first Modern FMN* last week running Grixis Twin*. I went 2-1-1 in the end, joint second or third (can't remember, lot of whisky by that point)? You don't want to know how much the deck costs.

In many respects not much has changed. We still play in a pub (and I'll be damned if I want to carry on, should that end), the same people organise the events, the same faces keep cropping up but I live in a very-university city so there is an influx of people during semesters, and I'm still speaking with the same people I met the first time I went to a casual night. Actually ended up temporarily moving into a flat with two of them (married) which turned out to be one of the biggest mistakes of my life but they turned out to be very destructive people and have now moved to Eastbourne. Most of the guys I meet up with outside of playing MTG are frighteningly normal. The missus teases me that we're considered "the jocks" with the local Magic crowd - King of the dorks, I believe she says - but that's mostly alcohol abuse.

I remember complaining about the second time I went to a casual night and being inundated by people looking to show off infinite combo decks, play formats I didn't recognise (I now have an EDH* deck, commander is Nath of the Gilt-Leaf) or were just dickheads. I like to think I'm cautious of being that kind of dickhead to newer players but then again maybe they don't like being patronised when they just want to play a card game. Oh yeah, I mentioned that we play in a pub on the unofficial agreement that everyone buys at least one drink while there - obviously CCGs takes up a sizeable space and between 20-25 people, well... - but most of the people there don't drink. So the pub's a little pissed off but I have gotten to know the pub manager fairly well.

I transitioned to playing control (from newb GW Humans*) fairly early in the game mostly because I like sweepers and at the time I thought playing a creature-less deck was a cute idea. Obviously the more I play, the more I realise how naive that was but control hasn't really lost its grip on me and from my halcyon days of playing UW* Control with four Supreme Verdicts and four Terminus and being flabbergasted the first time I traded for a Geist of Saint Traft ("Wow, I'll never own a more valuable card"), I moved on to touting a full set of Geist and Snapcaster at FMN.

How I moved on to Modern, I'm a little unsure. Theros is my first Standard cycle and, to be honest, it did feel like shit. Look at all these awesome cards I spent ages trying to trade for I can't use in the most played format any more, oh bugger. I had a pretty healthy run pissing everyone off playing UW Control in the first few THS/RTR* months still but it turned out to be a top-tier deck (fuck you, overly expensive Esper* and Thoughtseize) but fuck me, Standard is expensive to keep up with.

*Look. Dickhead shorthand.

I actually tried leaving it a few times, during my whinier moments. Moved on to board games, moved on to X-Wing, even tried a brief stint with computer games but ultimately I haven't found a game as convoluted, absurd and satisfying as Magic. Looking forward to the next Modern FMN.

This is getting pretty meandering, just thought I'd rant on a bit about Magic and show you guys how unlikeable I am. Also, I'm shit[-hot] at draft.

Good post. Magic is sort of a running joke in our board game group; we like to laugh about the overpriced cards and the odorous players, but I think secretly there's something each of us likes about the game, whether it's the large and active community, the richness of the strategies and styles available, or just how the sheer number of cards appeals to some innate hoarding nature that people sometimes have.

I actually have a box of Magic cards from about 17 years ago, sitting somewhere in my parents' loft. It made me sad when I learnt recently they are all kind of redundant now, unless you play certain formats. I keep meaning to dig them out and see if there are any hidden treasurers in my collection, but you know it'll just be a load of trash now, good for nothing but backing game prototypes or something.

Yeah, I have a bunch of stuff from Ice Age up to around Stronghold/Urza; I doubt any of it's worth that much these days.

You might be surprised! Wasteland - Tempest Uncommon = £35+, Force of Will, Alliances Uncommon: £35+, Gaia's Cradle:Urzas Saga Rare - £70+. Mirage Lion's Eye Diamond £50+

If you spread them out to just show the names and take a photo we'll soon tell you of any ones worth money.

Went to the PTQ in Sheffield yesterday. Sealed format (3x Born of the Gods, 3x Theros) and after a week of moderate to disastrous testing on Magic Online I went 6-2 (14th of 129) and could possibly have gone 7-1 for top 8, were it not for a moment of madness when making some blocks in one round.

I kinda expected to go 2-6 so that was a really pleasant surprise :)

It was a pretty good pool - Stormbreath Dragon and Xenagos, the Reveler (the Planeswalker) and two Bolt of Keranos were the highlights, but it was a pretty solid deck without too many suspect cards. Were it not for the two ludicrous Mythic cards I'd probably have played Green/Blue as my Blue cards were much more solid than the red ones overall, but the power ceiling in Red was so high that it felt worth playing a few subpar cards to make up for it.

I'm writing an article about Sealed deckbuilding at the moment that will touch on the event, so will link it here once it gets published :)
