Ultra Street Fighter IV

1. JLM, that video clip is actually godlike!

2. Spuck, it's heartwarming that I disagree with you quite strongly on most of your points above, and yet we can still agree that SFV is boring. Well, I say "heartwarming" but maybe I mean depressing.

3. We're cutting our internet connection this month, so if anyone fancies a few games on steam (or even potentially on xbl if I can find a free month ticket) one evening before I'm gone forever then let me know.

Mahvel was still great though. At least come to my place or something. Or maybe just come over some other time and press the buttons, perhaps in conjunction with Mr Joffo as he cant do hypespotting this year.

I just did my second ever real-match dash ultra with Chun ...but I did it too slow and my opponent blocked it. But for that brief moment as the ultra flash happened after the dash, the fireball hanging useless in the air between Chun and my opponent, I felt truly godlike.

Earlier I played against a man with a Russian flag who changed characters every game, won 3 lost 3, and then switched to his main and began taunting while winning the second round, only to lose it and then go on to also lose the last round in hilarious fashion and kick me from his lobby like it was 2011 or something.

I also played a bunch of games against that man Gen Kan who used to post GIFs on the reddit before it became so SFV-focused. He is a good man and imparted many words of wisdom. USF4 Revival is doing right by me.

I thought I was going to have a bad last night on this, at first: I lost my first game heavily and was immediately kicked from the lobby, then spent half an hour waiting for another match and it was so free the opponent quit midway through round two. But then I eventually ended up playing a great little set against a 4k/16k chun player and getting the upper hand by the end of it. I think with a couple more games he would have adapted again but he won't get a couple more games now - nor ever, I guess, since that's my last day of home broadband done and dusted. GG, no runbacks :-)

(I'm still around to press buttons at someone's house, of course!)

Once I've got Zelda out of my system I think I'll buy this again on the PS4. V just hasn't clicked with me (the emergence of Overwatch didn't help) and IV really is the best game. I miss doing silly combos in training mode.

Well I'm glad I waited. This is £7.99 on PSN: https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-gb/games/ultra-street-fighter-iv/cid=EP9000-CUSA01839_00-USF4DEV00104SCEE?smcid=pdc:gb-en:webm-pdc-games-detail-ultra-street-fighter-iv-ps4:leadproductinfo-download:ultra-street-fighter-iv:ep9000-cusa01839_00-usf4dev00104scee

Yup, it's pretty good now. Still crashes on the lobby screens from time to time (and certainly more frequently than the 360 one did), but in-game it's a perfectly fine port.

Played a bunch of this last night. After flailing wildly in SFV for half an hour this was like putting on a pair of comfy slippers. Still got a bit of muscle memory, but more importantly I've forgotten all the fancy stuff I used to try and fail to do, so was forced into focusing on fundamentals. Had a good set of matches with a Boxer player who was like PR Rog if Rog dropped a lot of combos. Played four or five ranked matches in a row then got an invite to endless from him, which suggests I hadn't completely embarrassed myself. Lost 5-1 admittedly, but still.

Best game. I'll be back in like nine months I expect.

I bought this last night on steam, feeling a bit inspired by you lot still so passionate about this. This is still brilliant (haven't played since the release of Arcade Edition on 360), I entered challenge mode and knocked out Ryu's set and it feels so good to play on a sensory level, like your controller is a lot sharper than the blunt object that it is.

Self-indulgent thread bump! Still playing this game all of the time, unfortunately to the detriment of me improving at other fighting games I'm trying to learn. There are still lots of people playing on Steam, and I keep running into old familiar faces from the UK and European scene who are still as obsessed with this game as I am. The USF4 Revival Facebook group is doing a good job of bringing players together and running tournaments: https://www.facebook.com/groups/USF4Revival/

Sadly my local event ran it for the last time last month, as they need to make room for Dragonball FIghter Z. On the plus side, I won the tournament so can now retire as SFO Ultra SF4 champion for all times and forever, even though the same guy (not me) won it at least four months in a row prior to this one. Ruahahahaha.

Please enjoy these whiff punishes from my ranked adventures last night. Yes, I am quite pleased with myself. Sorry about that.

Aha, wonderful stuff. Was it LaughingGoblin on the winning streak before you snatched the only victory that matters?

I've played the game a couple of times on PS4 recently; it's not as well populated as on PC but it's fun that you can you can infer so much more about a players ability during a single match in SFIV than you can in a full set of SFV. Even if its mostly: "This player is trying to do stuff they used to be able to do".

The 360 version of Ultra SF4 is currently on sale for £5.99, through the dashboard's Deals With Gold tile.

(SF3 and Super SF4 Arcade Edition are also listed on sale there but I already have those so I can't see the price. Vanilla SF4 is £10!)

Who is that Daniel I see stuffing an Ultra with a well placed crouch taunt?

Also Evo Japan USF4 top 8 was fun. Lots of very rusty players but cool to see Kitasenju DJ, AiAi and some other old SF4 notable folks in there. :

Do people still play the 360 version? Lugging my console and TE back from Singapore with me if so...

I think 360 is the quietest format now sadly. It's where I had the majority of my best times playing the game and is still my favourite version, but to get a steady stream of games I've had to move to PC.

In honour of Dems Fightin' Herds, the recently released equine fighter, I have had horse fighting puns rattling about in my head all day:

Hoovesies

Salty Red Rumbacks

Saltlicks

Canter hit combos

Pick your mane, scrub

Tiger Kneigh

Shergar Uppercut

Haymakers

Apologies if this is not an acceptable thread bump but for me this is where these belong.
