Just installed this on my new laptop and dug the TE stick out of the attic in preparation for some shenanigans with my friend tomorrow.

 

Wow! This game is (still) soooo good. Way faster than SFV. I could barely keep up, and the meter gain is rapido. I fell right back into my favourites, Gouken and Oni. Only one or two accidental uppercuts, but thats par for the course with my over-excited inputs. :blush:

 

Also, the TE is such a beautiful piece of kit. I own 3 different Arcade Sticks all with the same Sanwa parts, but the TE has the weight, the heft, that makes it feels extra special.

I recently upgraded my PC, so I put the old bits in my Mame cabinet... it’s gone from a Q6600 to an i7 2600k. Runs SF4 at 1080p 60fps even with my ancient 9600gt gfx card. Plays like a dream and SF4 is one of the few games that lets you set up keyboard controls for both players.

I'd love a proper cabinet with Sanwa 6 button sticks either side. And even though SFII is the original which i grew up on, i'd install this for sure.

 

As broken as SFIV was by the end; with all the big players only choosing top tier characters, its still an amazing fighting game. And lets be honest, with a roster this size, balance is nigh on impossible!

 

I am very happy that the Endless lobbies i joined this evening weren't just high rank dickheads looking to crush 'drunken, not played since SFV, amateurs' like myself. In fact they were all so very kind. Like the FGC is in general. And i miss that. My problem is i'm only combatitive and competitive after a few beers. Which hinders my chances before i press start. But i love it nonetheless! 1 vs 1 is an intimate thing not often replicated in other genres.

 

Anyway, i'm waffling as usual. Streetfighter has always been there for me, and always will be.

The left direction on my stick is fucked so I ended up watching hours of a low ranked Ryu player attempting USFIV trials while I put together flat-pack furniture. Was a good time. Supersquaddy appeared in the chat; the Cammy player from waaay back.

Supersquaddy is still very keen. He was traveling from Plymouth to Leeds to join our house sessions before lockdown put everything on hold.The last online tournament I entered had Parable Greg in it too. Great to see some of these old names popping back up again.

 

Also want to echo the TE love in here. I now own three of them because every time I see a decent one in good condition for a reasonable price I cannot say no. I feel like they should all be in a good home with someone who will love and care for them and press their buttons regularly. I changed the ball top on my original TE to a different colour so I could identify it at events, but aside from that it's still going strong on the original parts. Can't think of any other gaming accessory I've bought that even comes close to the value I've got from that purchase.

I will never ever be able to understand the mindset of randoms. It's more prevelant in fighting games because its 1 vs 1, and there's nowhere to hide.

 

I've not played SFIV online since SFV was released. But i have a gaming laptop now and all my joysticks work (the PS4 Hori needed some button assignment tweaking) but i felt drunk enough to play an old favourite. Two matches in i realised both players in the Endless lobby were picking Gouken only, so i played along. I lost a fair few times but it was always close. One player was clearly very good and holding back until he got scared he might lose the round. 

 

So yeah, rematch upon rematch with both of them, all the time watching their patterns and go-to moves. Then, as drunk as i am, i used all that downloaded info and won 4 games in a row (2-0 every time). So whats next: "You have been removed by the host". :lol:

 

This is why i like playing with friends only. Trust me, i am not blowing my own trumpet, i'm average at best, its just funny to me that two cocky cunts FADC-ing all over the shop got exposed, and their answer was "boot him".

They're probably just competing to see who can land some particular gimmick first for their Facebook feed, and you stopped doing the things that lets them set it up. Marvel online was plagued by it, as was Rocket League when I played that.
 

JLM and I used to do similar (well, not kicking people, but choosing which matches to accept in ranked) in SFxT when we were playing at cross assault and farming footage for my famed "throwing people into combos" video. You know the tech I invented by myself and a friend helped me demonstrate.

I just played twenty minuntes of training mode on this for the first time in literally years, and, through the sheer power of the subconscious mind evidently still working on this problem for me through those fallow years, I'm now up to about 25% consistency with the dash ultra in training mode. I've lost the legs loop that I had just about nailed down before I left, though.

It's been two and a half years since I played against a human in this game; in that time I've forgotten footsies, anti-airs, matchups, self-control, and even which characters I know how to play, but despite my brain's forgetfulness there are apparently moments when my hands surprise me by just doing things without letting my brain interfere in the process. This whole ten second sequence occured with my brain off.

Still entering weekly tournaments for this. Ghost runs a tournament with Floryuken from France called the Saule Tea Cup. Weekly ranking battles and then a top 8 of the top point scorers every two months. Warms the heart to see players still sticking around and playing at a high standard. Lots of old familiar faces from the Xbox live days entering because everyone's locked down.

 

However, the reason I've bumped the thread is because there is nowhere else I could post this. Notable UK Guy player Nebbiez just announced on the discord server that his baby girl is due in a couple of days. Then followed up with "Profound Dadness". I thought you gents would appreciate it. :)

I love a walk up Ultra 2 with Dee Jay. I play Wacho regularly and it never works any more. He will take 10 walk up throws if I have ultra to avoid being in my replays. After I landed it the first time in that clip there he left. I sent him a GGs message as we'd had a close set, and said I hoped my walk up ultra 2 gimmick wasn't too dastardly. He said he was half way through writing a message giving me props for it. There are still some true gentlemen out there on the internet. :D

Nah. Pro players still play it from time to time on the side but not instead of SFV. SFIV is only a side game at tournaments if it runs at all, so there isn't enough of a competitive scene or any money to be made. The highest level/pro SFIV players moved to SFV, switched to other fighting games or have stopped playing fighting games competitively.
