I bought Tank Battles on tuesday and after many hours of cursing have finally completed the singleplayer campaign :) Fantastic game for the price of two Twix's, though the later challenges rely too much on getting the right power ups, and annoying rather than fun environments full of mines and ice -level 48 must have taken over a hundred attempts! Best of all when you finally clock it you get a measly bronze trophy and a NES style congratulations screen :)

Very little joy with online though :( (PSN = lionjake) Only found two games - one a slowdowntastic but ace fourplayer affair and t'other a 1v1 with an idiot who had set the lives per game to 1 so it went 20secs of loading faff - idiot shoots himself - 20secs of loading faff - idiot shoots himself - 20 secs... aaaargh!

Castle Crashers, dude. It's a better game that all of the games that have influenced it. The art design, coming from Flash roots of it, might be an acquired taste, but it's charming, fun and compelling (with its RPG-lite levelling up).

Still hoping for some extra PS+ goodies for Christmas.

Free FPS game download allows PS3 owners to reach up to level eight

Sony is giving away multiplayer shooter MAG to subscribers of the premium PSN Plus service from today.

PS3 owners can download the game and access all of its modes as long as they’re signed up to PSN Plus – which costs £11.99 for 90 days or £39.99 for a year.

However, the free download only allows players to develop their character to level eight. To go beyond this they will have to buy the full game which costs $29.99 to download.

Any additional XP a player earns while playing for free will be stored until the full game is purchased.

MAG is also compatible with PlayStation Move and allows up to 256 players to take part in a large-scale war. It went on sale in January this year.

(Note that even though this is MCV UK, there's still a chance this could be US only...)

My only prior experience with Neo Geo games are the Pocket Colour, but Samurai Shodown is free for Plus subscribers so I'm sure someone will be able to give you a comparison.

I notice Tetris came out today despite allegedly being pushed into next year. One for Cyhwuhx, perhaps?

Word of warning: Tetris is insanely sensitive in terms of controls. Still need to grow accustomed to it; my first run broke down at Lv.13 after I fumbled two tetrominoes by overshooting their spots. Other than that it is the PSP version with online multiplayer and the challenges intact.

Two annoyances compared to the PSP version: 1) blocks are too shiny and make the field harder to read than its PSP counterpart, 2) when music shifts from normal to pressure, the change is a soft fade in while it's blatantly obvious this should've been a hard cut.

Oh, and it uses an EA Online account you need to sign into separately from PSN for God knows what reason. <_< I can see myself forgetting that if you need to do that manually each time, wrecking up leaderboards/lives in the process.

Did anyone get Dead Nation?

What's the opinion on it, reviews seem to be average at best.

Conversely, it's just scraped into my GOTY list. The best PSN game this year.

Opinion is certainly split on the game. I don't understand the mindset of those who don't like it. It's slower paced than most twin stick shooters, but that's by design. What it lacks in pace, it certainly makes up for in atmosphere and tension. It's insanely detailed and polished, with a perfectly honed risk/reward mechanic in place if you're going at it for score attack. Technically rock solid, never slowing down, no matter how many zombies are on screen, even if they're all on fire.

There are a few minor issues. Too many weapon and item, which make frantic switching - and the game is frantic, let me assure you - error prone. The default controls need changing to move weapon and item select from the d-pad to the fact buttons, so you can run away while swapping. You can do this in the options.

The nationalist meta-game is a stroke of awesome. Each country has to rid its entire zombie population, with real time leaderboards. Which is where the 'Nation' part of the name comes from. I clocked the game in single player - there are 10 chapters, each one takes about 30 minutes to complete. Played a couple afterwards with co-op, which worked perfectly, and changes the dynamic enough to keep things interesting.

Has anyone checked out the Neo Geo games? Just wondering how the emulation fares.

Also, Front Mission 3 on the US store ^_^

Had a go of Samurai Showdown and emulation is pretty good. You get the usual options (smoothing and all that).

£7 quid a game (for no PS+) members is a piss take though.

Seems weird having the Neo Geo start up on my PS3, last time i played Neo Geo stuff was on my chipped XBox.

Seen that Sonic Adventure is just over 3 quid. Reviews are pretty meh though, anyone care to put me off buying it??!!!
