It's Sony's Spotify (for all their media, I believe).

Yep, but unlike Spotify, there's no free ad supported option.

You get one month free, but afterwards you have to pay £3.99 (basic) £9.99 (premium) per month. There's also no option to download. (not sure if Spotify offers the option to download.)

With Basic (£3.99 in the U.K. and 3.99 Euros in Ireland) and Premium (£9.99 in the U.K. and 9.99 Euros in Ireland) monthly subscription plans, “Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity” offers the breadth of content and easy music discovery which are features cited as most important by music enthusiasts.

Unlike many other popular music services, the basic plan permits unlimited forward skipping of the songs to ensure users discover music they want to hear. With access to an expanding catalogue of about six million songs, the basic plan works as an infinite ad-free radio station and subscribers can listen to dozens of personalized channels – categorized by genre, era as well as mood through SensMe™ *1 – without the requirement to download or manage their music files.

Additionally, the premium subscription plan offers a onetime 30 day Premium free trial enabling users to listen in full to every song on demand, create personal playlists of favorites, and gain access to premium Top 100 channels which are regularly updated with the latest hits.

Just a small comment on the online TV player icons: they're all just a shortcut to the browser. Even if you don't get it listed on the XMB (maybe cos you don't have a UK PSN, foreign PS3 or whatever), you can still view it by simply entering the URL in the browser. Might as well do that and save it into your Bookmarks list regardless. There's a set of URLs a few pages back (source, source and source).

It's the convenience though, isn't it? At the moment it's more convenient to pull out the laptop or phone for iPlayer rather than faff about with the PS3 browser.

Actually, Sony have missed a trick by not letting you create your own bookmarks on the XMB.

Well true, but all you do is select the browser, press SELECT and choose from the Bookmarks list. But really I mainly linked to the URLs just for those people who can't get the icons on the XMB, although as long as you have a UK-registered PSN then it should appear no matter what PS3 you have.

I'm not really getting move to be honest. I've only tried it so far with the paint demo thing, the sports champions demo (table tennis and disc) and the menus. The best of the lot so far has to be for navigating the menus. Once you get used to it, it's really effective.

I found table tennis played well but my wife and daughter just couldn't do it at all. I do play table tennis in real life though and they don't.

Overall though, it's just not a huge improvement on the wii and, coming so far after it, that just isn't good enough. There were still too many occasions playing table tennis when the controls went screwed up. Faffing with the camera position every time I switch between me and my daughter is also balls.

Which is the best full game to try? I can rent a couple from lovefilm to give it a proper go.

When I get home I'll get on that but still, for a media centre the options are a bit limited. Not saying that the XMB needs changing, just frustrating having limited sorting options and no ability to make quick links.

Sports Champions is the best game really. Everything else I have tried seems a bit meh although i'm going to give Time Crisis Demo another try. Flight Control HD (£3.19 off PSN) is the game I've played most on it! Next year things SHOULD change though - Killzone 3, SOCOM 4, LBP2, Sorcery, Move Heroes - They all look good.

Anyone played/playing Pacman CE DX on the PS3? No-one on my friends list appears to own it and it seems perfect for leaderboard tussling, I can't get enough of it since buying it earlier.

Feel free to add me; my PSN ID is: arewenotben

I think the problem might be that everyone with either a passing interest in a) Pac-Man or b) good video games bought it on 360, 18 months ago. After my 360 RROD'ed for the 5th time I refused to buy another, so am delighted I can re-buy on PS3. But people less chary of the MS juggernaut (so, pretty much everyone) already has it :(

I have a totally non gaming girlfriend and want to get her interested. Any advice for ps3 games? She liked tv superstars and start the party move demos but i think both could grow old. Ive ordered one of the buzz games but that doesnt really count.

Pacman CE DX...? ;)

Ehr.... CEDX is only a few weeks old on either platform. CE was 360 only and was only recently re-released on PS Minis.

Flower is she's into a Zen vibe. Speaking of which: Zen Pinball. Tetris, Super Rub a Dub, Flight Control HD and Singstar of course. If she's into adventure, wait a bit for Team ICO Collection. ;)

Oh come on, they're hardly massively different; you get my point :D

May be one for ATF, but how do I get subtitles to display on films when:

  • I'm using PS3 Media Server
  • It's an MKV file that displays subs when played on my PC, but not on PS3?

Give up. Chances are she's just not interested. I speak from experience on that one.

Give up mate, it's a fools errand. You're more likely of convincing her to have a threesome with her best mate than you are of getting her into games.
