A thread for PS3 owners here 2011

Sorry, can you add a bit more detail? I looked at the site and it seems to merge SRTs into AVIs.

With the MKVs I have, the subs are already in the container, the media player just won't diplay them on the PS3. Any ideas?

Th PS3 seems to struggle with containers and you have to hardcode the subs into the movie file. Using a program like the above you can do that (As you said, merging the sub and movie files), I'm fairly sure it works with MKV...

AVIAddXSubs needs an srt file to work from, so because the subs are embedded in an MKV container it doesn't work. I haven't found anything that lets you extract the subs from an MKV and burn them into an AVI (even though Handbrake has the option it isn't functional). All I've been able to do with MKVs is convert them to a PS3 compatible format, find some srt subs from the net and then use AVIAddXSubs to burn them in.

I can't for the life of me get PS3 Media Server running on my slim PS3. I had it running on my old original one but this one just won't have it, no matter how much fiddling I do with settings.

^^ this. Thanks for the info, will go back to only DLing stuff with hard subs :)

Would any of you fine gents furnish me with some PSN game suggestions? There seems to be alot of meh.

I've got peggle and it's beautiful.

Joe Danger, Wipeout HD & Fury, PixelJunk Shooter, Dead Nation, Hustle (with Snooker DLC), Deathspank & DS: Thong of Virtue, Costume Quest, Flower, Noby Noby Boy, Trash Panic & Marvel Pinball.

Out of those, Joe Danger, Wipeout HD & Fury & Flower are ones you should probably buy/consider first but all are worth buying.

Are you sure you have media streaming turned on in the PS3 settings, and they are both connected to the same network? Have you tried a different version of the release, I find the latest Beta to be really good compared to the original (on a Mac at least). I've tried so many streaming programs on Windows and OSX using the 360, DVD players & the PS3 but PS3 Media Server is by far the best and most reliable out there.

Bloody peculiar - I just reinstalled it and tried it again and it worked straight away. It's the same version I was using before with no alterations to the settings

Any tips for connecting the PS3 to my PC with an ethernet cable? The wireless isn't quite up to transcoding HD stuff.

Joe Danger is also half price in the current sale, and the demo is pretty lengthy and gives a good impression of all the different types of levels in the game.

Good catch, forgot it was on sale.

PixelJunk Shooter is also on sale, definitely worth buying those at their reduced price.

Thanks for that list sarge. PSN is a real pain to browse. I've tried and enjoyed flower so will pick that up at some point. I'd forgotten that joe danger was on psn.

What's the deal with playstation plus then? What are the perks?

It's a sub based package. The perks can be pretty decent and range from free games every month (past games have been LittleBigPlanet, LBP: Sackboy's Prehistoric Moves, Sam & Max and a few others), you also get access to free dynamic themes (these are actually pretty decent), free DLC, early access to demos, exclusive access to betas, cheap price releases (certain new games come with 25% or more off) and some free avatar pics and the occasional free Mini.

There is a catch though, certain content (free games) aren't actually yours to own so when you stop subscribing you lose the option to download them again in future. Other content and discounted games are yours to keep and you can download them again any time you want.

Overall I wouldn't really recommend it just yet but it's something to keep an eye on in future as they are improving the content every update.

Eat Them! looks promising on PSN also. Just came out the other week.

I am getting really hooked on buying quick fix PSN games but does it bug anyone else that when PS4 comes out or whatever these games are worthless? It's like, I have 50+ Gamecube games in a box with the gamecube and all of them are worth something, but downloaded titles are worthless really.

Do you get all of the previous stuff too or if you've missed it then you've missed it?

Are there any cheap 12 months deals online like xbox live?

Nope, if you miss the content for a certain month it's gone for good. This is a pretty big flaw and one of main reasons why I probably won't renew my sub when it runs out next year.

Not really, it's not like Xbox Live in that you can buy codes it from other retailers. Buying a PS+ sub is only possible through the PSN store and it'll cost £11.99 for three months and £39.99 for 12months. (you get three months free with the 12 month sub)

I'm tempted by Eat Them, but a good friend played it at Beta Rooms a while back and said it's dull and generally pointless.

I doubt they'll be worthless, any multiplayer games might be due to servers going offline but I think Sony will have full BC for PSN titles. They'd be crazy not to.

To be fair, the pre-release demos they were showing around even up to oct/november time had some serious frame rate issues which slowed the action down a lot. That appears to have been solved for the release. It's basically 3d Rampage with customizeable creatures. I've always liked those kind of games (and really like the art style), but they're generally best played in 15 minute chunks IMO.

Did anyone else pick up the 79p bargain Tank Battles the other week? I tell you what the campaign mode in 1 player is a great challenge (and so frustrating yet rewarding). I have finally (after way too many continues) reached the final level - Chapter 10 Mission 5 and it is an absolute all out war fest. Never known such a bargain game. I probably won't get a chance to finish till tomorrow now but that'll give me an early tick in the 2011 completed games box.

If anyone actually manages to get the 2 (should be gold) silver trophies of completing the campaign in 60 minutes and with no continues then hats off to you!

Hey dudes,

RE: Backing up your PS3 save/game data. I have a USB drive that is 500gb and it is full of stuff and it turns out you can't use an NTFS drive with a ps3. I'm a bit stuffed. I do have a small USB Key that I could format as FAT32 but that would mean me backing the PS£ up bit by bit and moving to laptop and then to the USB drive. Can you do a bit by bit backup or is it all or nothing?

HOW ANNOYING
