New Star Soccer 5 (PC/Mac/iOS/Android/Flash)

Question from another forum.

I played the PC version a while back, and really enjoyed it, but what broke it for me is that when you payed for career mode, you bought 1(one) career. Fun for a while, but inevitably the career ends and you have to make another purchase to keep playing career mode, which basicly turns it into a subscription mode. Is that also the case for the iOS version?

Si?

I had understood that the career mode in the PC version locked you to one profile, but any number of saved games with any combination of club and position. Unless Si has radically altered the game since I last played, that ought to still be the case.

Yeah, Fry is correct. If you buy a premium NSS5 account you can play unlimited careers and never pay again. Just start a new save with the same player name.

This looks great, but career mode won't work for me. Purchased it, but after putting name in then it crashes. My aging iphone is probably at fault - better upgrade to a new one ;-)

Hmm, what name did you use? Any strange characters? And what phone is it?

3g on 4.2.1

Not the name as I've tried a few as well as a few countries. Press the green tick - goes to 'please wait' loading screen for a few seconds then goes black and then back to apps.

This is so addictive. I'm avoiding the Arcade mode at the moment so the Career mode isn't too easy.

Only real complaint is how you can have matches with only one or two touches, and no shooting opportunities. Could maybe do with tweaking a little. The idea of choosing to be a defender, midfielder or striker sounds good, it can be as satisfying making a tricky pass as it can a goal. Other than that it feels so solid and accomplished, well done! No shortage of content too with the Arcade mode as well.

Today's question - are building purchases cumulative or it it just the biggest which contributes towards energy levels? It could maybe be a bit clearer that the buildings contribute towards energy recharge, I had no idea until a random tip told me!

Also, my manager refused to discuss my contract until my level went up - my level went up and he said the same again. Is this a bug or could it be because I was on a decent contract anyway? (6,2,2 I think moving from level 2 to 3)

I've not been this addicted to an iOS game, probably ever! Great job!

Yes, it's accumulative. +5 per property. You're right, that needs to be stated somewhere - maybe an energy recovery screen post match?

If you managed to boost your contract through the negotiating mini-game then yeah, you may have to up your star rating a level or two before you can renew it. I might make this more obvious too.

I've been playing this on and off now for a few days and am really enjoying it.

The only thing I would say is that I find intercepting the ball a bit tricky as my fat thumbs get in the way a bit.

I do like the work rate management aspect of the game and found myself purposely resting myself towards the end of a game or if I come on as a sub putting my work rate at full blast.

In my first season in the Welsh league I got transfer once and ended up with a mid table side which was ok but then I managed to negotiate a good contract with a Mexcian side so I'm now of to ply my trade in south America.

I really don't mid paying £0.69 for one career as I feel I'm going to get my monies work out of it and tbf people use micro payments all the time on mobile phones so I'm not sure why people get up in arms about it so much when they are applied to games, at least it is up front and you now how much it is.

Anyway great game :)

Heh, I was doing terribly at Gloucester, when the January transfer window rolled around and Eastbourne Borough came in for me.

I didn't think much of it, because they're also in the Conference Regional and I didn't see the point in moving sideways, but I decided to play the negotiation mini-game anyway.

Four right answers later and I've got a wage of three starbux and a goal bonus of two sitting on the table. I bit their frickin' hand off for that sort of cash. :D

Turning 17 and being disillusioned with English Professional Football, my little dude took a break and joined the Malaysian league, playing for Kuala Lumpur

Can't seem to up my game though, stuck on the lower levels of star rating 2.

Did have a weird crash last night, cup match went to penalties, first 3/4 were scored, then when I had mine it freaked out and the keeper stood about 10 yards to the right of the goal and it wouldn't register me trying to take the shot.

Had to close the game and restart

This is excellent, but I would agree it would be good if you could have more influence on the game. It feels at times like you are a bit of a passenger. Maybe this changes as you level up? Perhaps if there were some player management aspects/captain decisions that you could busy yourself with the lack of action might not be as noticeable?

Got my first assist earlier following a chipped pass of 30 yards, was well pleased with that.

I assume if your free kick stats are high enough you will become the teams free kick taker?

Also, I cant remember the name of it, but I used to play an old C64 football management game, it was a copy so have no idea what it was even called. But the in game commentary style seems to be very similar to this. The only detail I can remember is that when you saved the game and then returned to it the screen would announce that the manager had returned from his holiday. Anyone remember its name?

Oh, and that game had a nice sublte way of adding drama when shots were made on goal by teasing the result out by adding some ". . . . . " before exclaiming if you had scored or not, might want to nick that :)

While the game is great after having paid for the career mode to then be presented with a whole host of items that can be purchased with in game currency my nose was out out of joint slightly.

If I'd not paid for the career mode I'd have been more than happy to shell our a few quid for bucks. As it stands I've already paid and so don't want to go down that path.

Progress was seemingly slow and then after a transfer and new contract things are looking up! I can afford drinks on a more regular basis and am enjoying it more.

Except now the price of the drinks has increased, so I'm pretty much back where I was.

I'd not have cared if the game was free as I would have bought the bucks - but rising prices just as you're making headway? It just seems a little bit cheap.

Great game, would like there to be some goal scoring chances within the box though.

Yeah, I thought that, especially after an opportunity for one of your team mates.

"Keep parries away, falls to Syntax"

Then you get the ball moving across the screen at a random angle/speed and you have to finish it.

More contextual stuff like that would be lovely.

Maybe a mini game that siginifies you trying to make a run through the defence to recieve a through ball?

Sorry if these sound like criticisims, the game is great as it is, I am just excited by the possibilities of the game template you have here.

I'm enjoying it too. The bux thing hasnt been an issue for me at all and I haven't felt I needed to buy any early on. I would have liked to have been able to play every match, and not piss the manager off with my low energy, but it would just be like pressing the win button.

Intercepting is a bitch.

I started with ANNAGH and then moved to BANBRI before getting a transfer to the mightly LINFIE as a freshed face 20 year old. I want to win the league here before moving onwards, maybe to a warmer climate.

This really is fantastic. I find myself squeezing games in whenever I can. I got myself up to 5 star but I presume this just keeps going up as I'm only in League 2. I've barely been working on my skills at all but not really having any trouble on the pitch. I'm not far off having all the lifestyle items and vehicles. Owning more property makes the game a lot easier, meaning you don't have to recharge your energy unless you're working on relationships/skills etc.

If people are having problems with not getting many chances, trying getting your Team relationship as high as you can, it directly affects the number of touches you get per game. The question mark tells you what each relationship does. Having a girlfriend seems a bit pointless, not sure what me being happy or unhappy affects. Needy bitch too, she expects me to talk to her at least once a month. Get over yourself, love.

As I say, not been increasing skills and boots seem like a waste of money and a luxury. Scored from 50 yards yesterday with low skills. Maybe I need to work on them more when I go up another league.

Yes, and penalties.

There have been quite a few calls for more star bux in the early stages over on Kongregate (woo! front page!) so I might tweak things a little bit. Not too much because 90% of players seem happy with the difficulty level. (Maybe a few bonus bux here and there, and perhaps reduce the amount of energy that training and relationships use up.)

I also want to improve your team mate AI to stop them running under the ball, add a mute button, and make a few other tweaks. So keep the feedback coming. :)

Yeah, I think I ended up spending all of my money on energy drinks and shoes (and gambling to buy said things) in the current stages. Having said that, I only started playing it for the first time last night and then I realised it was time for bed, cracking game you've made!
