New Star Soccer 5 (PC/Mac/iOS/Android/Flash)

Argh, just turned down an excellent offer from another club because I had a good relationship with my current boss and he won't give me a wage increase!

So I'm on a new season, and new star level, with higher priced NRG drinks, and the same wage as last season.

This won't end well :(

Just went on a mad winning run on the blackjack tables. Went in with 1 buck, came out with 15, I wish I had upped my bets now from the standard 1 per hand.

I am sure that Siread is going to support this well. I really would love if there were slightly more interactions per match. Maybe something like if you complete a pass there is a higher chance of getting the return pass. That way you can feel like you are part of some build up play to an effort on goal. The passes just now seem sort of detached, unless in the last third and they result in a instance shot from your attacker.

Might be good to build in some passing from defence as well, were misplaced passed resulted in chances for the opposition.

I haven't missed an interception yet. Indeed, they seem rather easy to me.

Check out billy big bollocks over here. I bet you swan around in a 30 starbux designer suit and live in a ski chalet. We aren't all premiership player y'know. Some of us play REAL football. I cycle to the ground every day and have shitty NI magazine calling me shabby but thats what it should be about. Flash git.

On the subject of passes - Sometimes you have 2 or 3 options, usually 1 being very simple - is it worthwhile trying to hit the harder pass? Is there anything going on behind the scenes that means a successful, lobbed 30 yard pass will increase the likelyhood of a goal scoring opportunity being created?

:D

I'm a trackie-wearing Conference South player who often shanks passes into row Z. :)

This is great. Love the fact you start way down in the lower conferences. Started off at Harrogate but concentrated on training instead of being match-fit. The boss stopped picking me, but I caught the eye of Lincoln who were top of the conference and I made a swift transfer, concentrating on actually playing in the games now and trying to help us to win the league!

Only thing that seems slightly odd so far is I've found it much easier to score than pass. My powers only on around 11 or 12 and I can spank it in from 30 yards without having to be that accurate...

Really good fun overall though!

Edit: new longest goal 39 yards, hit straight at the keeper and bounced over him... I don't just want to pick faults and really like the game! But this could def use a tweak imo...

Yes, when it says "played a simple pass" it is more likely that the play will break down. Passes less than 15 yards or passes backwards are considered simple passes. In the next update passes over 30 yards will be even more likely to progress play.

So is the playing part of this a bit like the old Amstrad/Speccy/C64 game 'Footballer of the Year' then, except you don't just try and score you can pass too?

Kinda, only a lot better. :D

Thats encouraging to hear. Sometimes these games fall down when you realise your progress is an illusion, glad to hear some work going on under the bonnet with regard to that.

As mentioned before I liked the fact that I wasnt exactly a fans favourite at one time have an off field effect when it said I lost possesion due to being jeered from the crowd.

Cant wait to play some more on the bus.

Did you do all the work yourself Siread? I am really impressed with your ideas and approach here, I think this style of footy game has massive potential if it had some more resource thrown at it. Not that it isnt great already, but you know what I mean.

Yeah, all the coding was done by me, plus some of the graphics. The players, dimemma images, casino and most of the icons were done by an artist called Chico. He has since buggered off to draw Angry Birds for Rovio!

As has been said, great game so far. Really impressed with the F2P model attached.

As with the beta, I'll forward you a feedback document Si. Great work matey.

You would walk into a job at Sports Interactive if you shoved this under their noses!

Heheh. That's quite funny. Probably shouldn't say why. ;)

This surely has to be a breakthrough game for you. How's sales?

It's looking good so far. The whole cross-platform approach (which was made possible by Mark Sibly's amazing programming language Monkey) is just awesome. I think having a Flash version is key as it is doing the business. It has clocked up nearly 100k plays in 3 days on Kongregate alone and is 2nd in their most popular games of the month with an average rating of 4.4. That of course is helping to shift units on iOS and Android, and NSS5 sales have doubled over the last couple of days. It's still very early days, so there is a long way to go before being more successful than NSS3, but it's a good start no doubt. I'll might post up some proper numbers next week.

Closing in on my endgame now (winning the Premiership with Derby), few shots of my progress during my last season:

For anyone on the fence after Clipper's comments earlier on in thread, this was all done without paying anything other than the 69p to open up career mode. Buy this game.

Only real problem now is the upkeep of my sponsors, they need nurturing every single week to keep the bar up. Is this intentional or is there something I can do to stop it?
