New Star Soccer 5 (PC/Mac/iOS/Android/Flash)

I stuck with Maidenhead for my first 2 seasons - scored about 100 goals in that time, which was a huge improvement on my first run. Never had anyone above the championship interested in me at the end of season 2 though. However, spurs just made an offer after a few weeks in season 3. Snapped that up. Didn't realise it but they're top of the premier league. Not sure I can handle the pressure! Especially as my last job in a higher league with Leeds ended in disaster, mainly due to a girlfriend who had a habit of wrecking everything for me. Great game - hopefully I'll carry on enjoying it at the top.

I will fix the goal thing, and I'm still trying to work out why that image problem happens on some Android phones.

What do you guys think of the match ratings at the moment. A lot of people over on Kongregate complain that if you get 2 chances and make 2 passes then they should get a good match rating. Admittedly they probably haven't realised that your number of chances are dependent on the team relationship, but it's a valid argument I guess.

I think thats a balancing act. If you play the full game and only get 2 opportunities, then you're not in the game enough so should get a low rating. However, if you come on as a sub with 20mins to go it would be harsh to get a low rating for a similar performance.

I think if you come on as sub and don't make a mess of things you should maybe get a 5 rating so that at least you dont lose any star rating.

Agree totally with this.

I think it's fine as it is. It's pretty easy to get 10s as a sub by sticking it up to full work rate and completing all your passes, which is great because it allowed me to actually break into the side from the subs bence. But you can't do that in a full match, and it's a nice balance. You don't want it so that 3/3 completed passes in a game gives a very high rating.. keep it difficult I reckon, it's not impossible as whoever it was who posted the screenshot earlier in the thread with 10-10-10-10-10 for form has proven...

Edit: Does work-rate affect your star rating directly? Or just the amount of chances you get? Haven't quite worked that out yet...

Finally, how is the match rating calculated, as it seems a little schizophrenic at times. For example, in one match I made 2 out of 3 passes (all forward passes over 10 yards) - and got a 2.9. In another match I think I missed 3 out of 5 and got a high 3/low 4 score. No goals or assists in either game. Is it linked to work rate at all? In the lower-rated game I had to play on the lowest to have enough energy to make it through the match.

AAAAARGH. Frustrated. Moved to Man City, we started brightly then went crap, even with me scoring a lot we ended up mid table 20 points off the title. Moved to Spurs, who had come 2nd: 9 games, 0 wins, relegation zone. Why is my presence turning great teams into wankstains? I'm playing well too so it's not that. Am I supposed to pass less and just try shots from 40 yards to get us a win?

Then make that clear - I was annoyed when I got 0 chances in one match. Crap rating but not my fault I thought....

I basically can't stop playing this. Thank god I've got no essays to write at the moment, they wouldn't get a look in.

One thing I would like would be to have the ball near the corner flag now and then so I can cross it to team mates in a crowded box. Or corners. (I don't know that there aren't corners, I don't take the set-pieces yet.) Anyway, not a major thing, obviously, but it would help mix it up a little bit.

I installed this onto my friend's phone on Friday:

"You’ve literally taken my life over with that game. I’ve practically completed it in 2 days. I have full stats almost and playing for spurs now. My best spell was at Hinckley, naturally."

He's not a gamer so it's all the better.

Another 'well done' post here, great game. Along with Kairosofts output, the most played on my phone.

I think the ratings are fair, I've not been aggreived by any yet anyway. I've not had any bugs apart from some of the button graphics go missing (which sometimes show again by themselves, but 100% do with a restart - which you know about on Android).

I do find sometimes that the casino can be a little too easy, specifically the slots. I am not sure about how you have programmed the payouts, but as long as I play a little (maybe 10-30 spins on max spend) I always come away up. I can only remember a couple of times losing out of maybe 150 or so stints? It's (obviously) made it a little easy for me to get to the Prem at 19 years old, through just training/relationship building and spamming NRG drinks.

And that was with a stint at a club I didn't want to be at, but I blindly pressed the button to accept. I can't be that lucky, can I?!

A few times now I'll go up a star level and my boss will say he won't want to discuss a new contract until my star level increases. We have a great relationship now and yet I can only get an increased wage if I move to another club.

The recent update allowed us to use NRG at half-time. That's useful, but now it's all too easy when you've a halfway decent contract to stock up on bottles and then play every match with a high workrate, thus eliminating the workrate management aspect.

I think the stomach cramps system from the PC games would be a good thing here, maybe with a meter that gradually fills with every drink, and only reduces over a period of time. So binging on NRG could be a good short term solution when you need it most, but long term use will start to take its toll on the player, perhaps forcing him to miss games due to stomach problems.

I'd also like to see injuries, although they'd need to involve player input rather than just random chance. Maybe something like a defender coming in two footed and you have to time your jump to avoid injury. :)

A new version has been submitted to Apple. Hopefully it will see the light of day before the weekend but the last one took 7 days. A taste of what's to come...

-Fixed blank screen after some cup match results

-Career Form on stats screen records average ratings for past 5 seasons

-Fixed Scottish Prem announcing league winners before it splits

-Fixed season review declaring Promoted/Relegated incorrectly for Scottish Prem

-Fixed points not carrying over after Scottish Prem league split

-Sponsors are impressed by Star Man awards

-Reduced amount that sposorship relationship decreases by each week

-Small energy boost at half-time

-Improved team mate shooting slightly

-Arrow on play match button is orange arrow if you are a sub, red if not selected

-Can drink NRG at half time

-Fixed unpopulated cup fixtures playing against an empty team

-Fixed ball going through net

-Added slight ratings boost for shots on target

-If opposition lose the ball during interception chance then play breaks down

-Fixed getting 2 passes if team mate shoots and it hits another team mate

-Tweaked match text speeds

-Wind directions switches at half-time

-Added buttons to browse cup rounds

-Can choose not to start dating girlfriend

-Added button to end relationship with girlfriend

-NRG that boosts skills or relationship will increase star rating instead if maxxed out

-A few minor tweaks

-Added mute button

-Improved team mate AI

-Less chance of play breaking down if you make a long pass

-Reduced price of NRG drinks slightly

-Reduced amount of energy needed to train

-Reduced amount of energy needed for relationship game

-Match rating not so harsh on subsitutes

-Boss gets less angry if you are not picked in early levels

-Furthest pass & goal stats (season) reset at start of new season

Most of that is already in the current Android version but I will hopefully be updating that in the next day or two with some more Android specific fixes. I think the next thing I will concentrate on is overhauling the whole NRG thing.

@Rob Sales of NSS5 have more than tripled but I'm mainly attributing that to the ads in the Flash version. Sales of SLR, NSGP etc haven't changed much (ie pretty non-existent). Mind you, you've made me realise that I should be advertising those games from the Flash version too, so thanks. :)

Managed to win the premier league in my 3rd season, just after joining spurs. Having the money to boost my team relationship at the start really helped in the end. It's the end of the season now and I can pretty much play for anyone I choose - is there any advantage to joining one of the big European clubs? Was tempted by Barcelona but my relationships are high with Spurs across the board and I've not got a ton of cash.

It's still a little unclear how it all works, but it seems to me that team play better when your relationships are all higher (and not just the team one which I always max out as soon as I join a new club). I joined Barca after success with Derby and found us to be a midtable team, despite me scoring more than a goal a game. There doesn't seem to be power-teams that win most games by default. I've got my relationships all up and we're doing better now. Managed to get the five 10s in a row achievement yesterday now it's been fixed.

Anyone have any idea about how renewing your contract works?

Was told my boss wouldn't discuss it until I rose my star level, which I did, still wouldn't talk about it.

I've just risen my star level again and he's still not willing to talk, while I'm pretty sure other clubs will be willing to pay me more.

I have been aware of NSS for awhile but never got around to playing any version but decided to give the Android version a go due to this thread and have been completely addicted to it - really love it.

Random issues / things I have thought of while playing:

-There should be more differentiation between wages at lower clubs and higher clubs. When I was midtable in the Premiership with Newcastle (and performing well) they were willing to sell me back to my original club Tunbridge Wells who were willing to pay me the same amount as Newcastle (£13/match). There should be a huge difference between wages at the different levels irrelevant of your skill level.

-It would be nice if there were player of the season awards / golden boot, or something like this to give you something else to strive for.

-Sponsorship level still seems to fall too fast in the Android version, I am having to boost it at the end of every game and it is still going down.

-Workrate in games I havent really worked out. I have been playing at minimum work rate every game since the start and as long as your team level is high it is fine. Considering the cost of energy there should be a much bigger difference between the workrates in game, although I dont really know how I would have coped with having it on higher as I would have needed drinks every single game.

Well done siread! I think I will try out the PC version of the game too on the back of this version :).

The only time it's worked for me has been after an increase in star rating and having a good relationship with the boss.
