New Star Soccer 5 (PC/Mac/iOS/Android/Flash)

Sales are pretty damn good. Had one of my best months ever in March and it was only released on the 12th. The Flash version is obviously helping to sell the game and the great comments back that up. Releasing on Android is really straight forward and new versions are live within an hour of uploading. Google act on suspect content only after it has been flagged which is great for devs, but of course some dodgy stuff slips through occasionally. Apple take roughly 1 week to give anything the green light which does encourage thorough testing, otherwise you could end up waiting weeks if Apple keep rejecting it.

I've been checking Eurogamer's 'App of the Day' daily, but no luck yet. I don't have any way of offering free versions to review sites which is a real bummer. It could really benefit from some "big site" reviews.

Have you considered e-mailing them? - Journo's are lazy usually and want news to come to them.. (hell, most publishers write the article for them I suspect) :)

Do you mean you don't have one, or there isn't one that you know of? I'm certain I was offered downloads of review versions of some apps back when I was doing reviews. I can't remember how though, unfortunately.

I dug out an old email. They used an app called UDID Sender. No idea if it will help, but below are some instructions from an email they sent me (just to illustrate how it worked; I never actually bothered as I didn't review iOS games):

What we need you to do:

1. Go to the App Store and Download UDID Sender (it’s free)

2. Install the App and run it

3. Email your handset’s UDID number to <SNIP> along with your name, publication, and work email (if different)

Your handset is then ‘hardwired’ to work with the pre-release code, which we email to you and you simply drag ‘n’ drop into iTunes and Sync.

Why can't you send them a promo code?

I'd send one to @iPhoneTiny on twitter too, Craig's a decent bloke.

Had a bit of a weird game yesterday, before the update came out. Playing for Milan, with my team rating at 100%, I went a full 90 mins with just one single chance. Unfortunately, it was an interception which I didn't quite reach, so I ended up with this for my match stats;

Thankfully it was a one off, and I've been getting plenty chances in every match since then.

Just out of interest, do the goalkeepers always dive the correct way for a penalty kick? Not exactly a problem given that they're easy enough to score, but it would be nice if they occasionally guessed wrong, allowing you to risk dinking it straight down the middle.

For Android, why can't you just email them and when they take note just send them the latest .apk?

The thing is, Google don't do promo codes for Android apps, and Apple don't do them for IAPs (which is how you unlock the full career mode). I'll have a look at UDID Sender but I'm not sure how it can circumvent the IAPs unless I have a separate unreleased and unlocked version of the app.

Yeah. That would work. :)

I've just downloaded the update, and a few shots I've tried to sneak in at the near post have not registered as either a goal or a miss. I think they went in, but can't be sure - it doesn't say 'chance missed' like it usually does either, just moves onto the next bit of action. I never had this before the update I'm afraid! Android and Sony Xperia Play.

Got back into this post update and loving it. I had a title push with Ebbsfleet which slipped away: but we made the playoffs and clinched it!

I was up to star level 8 then I believe so it was time to move on. I had the pick of the premiership shitters and was going to go with Derby - and then realised I could do better than these horse eaters.:.a quick check of Serie A and I'm off to LAZIO! Scoring two to win the Rome derby four games into the season. Magnificent!

87th minute PILEDRIVER at the San Siro to leap frog Milan into second place in the table?

Can I clinch the title with Lazio?! :o

More boring updates...cliched the Serie A title by one point from Inter and now for the cup final...against Roma - where by a hat trick and an assist means a 4-1 win - HAVE THAT!

A transfer to Liverpool now, a far poorer team :D

:edit - first game a four nil hammering away to Arsenal. Were awful, and I'm clearly the Suarez of the team. Freakishly realistic this Si...

I'm having a hard time winning Serie A, came 4th on the final day the first year, 2nd last year despite scoring a dozen more goals than fucking Inter with some amazing hammerings but a poor last few games, but I won't leave it. The crown will be mine. Then it's just Germany to have won all the big 4 leagues, in my 10th season now. How long does it go on for? The whole skills/money/lifestyle stuff became a bit irrelevant last season really, so I might have to start again if it's not going to finish on it's own.

May have been asked but is there scope for including European competitions?

It should be possible. They exist along with international tournaments in NSS5 and most of the code has been ported over to the mobile version - it's just the amount of data that needs to be saved that might be an issue. I'm gonna start trying to implement it soon.

There is no end to your career. This is something I need to address really, as you can play into your 40s and beyond. (Suggestions welcome.) If you start a new career your starbux will transfer across.

I would reckon probably around 35/6. Just an average age when footballers generally start to hang up the boots, although some should have done it well before that! ;)

I think it would be great if you could save a matches highlights or at least the highlights of a particular goal. With social interaction being all the rage, think you could build up even more of an online presence if people were posting great goals etc onto Facebook/twitter/emailing them to friends?

Maybe that's going too far but certainly at a basic level there's goals or particular games where it would have been great if I could have showed others.

Again, how technically possible this is I don't know.

Thanks for getting back to me re euro competition- look forward to it.

Also I think dudley's suggestion along with a certain cut off e.g 40 would be great re retirement.

I reckon your abilities should start to degrade in your thirties (if they don't already), starting your pace earlier and then the rest a bit later. That way retiring can be a natural decision because you're struggling in the games, rather than something forced upon you when you still appear to be in your prime.

The degradation shouldn't lock off the ability to retrain, but eventually (around 33/34) the slippage will be more than you can expect to keep up with without plunging funds into cans of NRG to fight the rot.

Just to add to that, it'd also ensure money remains relevant towards the end of your career. I now have full stats and full lifestyle, meaning that the only thing to spend my money on is the occasional can of NRG to boost a flagging relationship or to let me get through a match at a high workrate. So my balance is just filling up with nothing to do.

I think I have successfully implemented international tournaments. Full qualifying campaigns, World Cup, Euros, Africa Cup of Nations, Copa America. :D

I need to test it over the weekend but version 1.1 should be available on Android and Flash soon and hopefully by next Friday on iOS.

Wonderful news. Thanks
