Strangely enough, there isn't a topic on this game yet.

Strangely enough, because it looks like it could be one of the last great games released for the regular NDS.

The game's been out in Japân for a couple of months now, and has received reasonable critical acclaim (33/40 in Famitsu). It's been confirmed for a July 2011 Euro release biggrin.gif (no US release though) last week.

What got me interested, are the high profile developers/designers attached to this title; most notably CyberConnect2 itself (responsible for the .hack// series and more recently Asura's Wrath) and Madhouse (Animatrix, Death Note etc.).

The game itself is an action-JRPG and is the pseudo-sequel to the rather unknown PSX title Tail Concerto (1999).

More info, images, and video can be found on the official Japanese site.

Apparently the ad campaign incl. an attempt at challenging a Guinness World Record. huh.gif

According to Namco Bandai, there was a record at hand for broadcasting 100 different commercials for the same product in 8 hours. Which is just what they did for the release of this game in Japan. Dunno if they succeeded though.

Namco had the game completely localised into French over a year ago, when I first saw it over at NeoGAF. Nice of NoE to give a bit of support to various third-party efforts on the DS, Inazuma, a lot of Capcom DS titles and now this one.

Could they get around to announcing a localisation of the latest Intelligent Systems masterpiece too please :)

Has Inazuma actually come out over here yet?

Oh, and what's the Intelligent Systems game?

The UK division of NoE is lagging behind their other divisions on the Inazuma front, but you've already completed it by now I'd imagine :)

IS are pretty much Nintendo's inhouse strategy game provider and their last one got released 9 months ago in Japan, but hasn't even been announced for localisation yet:

FE: Shin Monshou no Nazo Hikari to Kage no Eiyuu (New Mystery of the Emblem, Heroes of Light and Shadow).

I wonder how long this'll last though... I mean, these games probably sell fuck all in Europe - thinking about Okami, Inazuma Eleven and Solatorobo.

Should I get my hopes up for Ni No Kune DS as well?

I'd be really annoyed if Ni No Kuni didn't make it, but after its lower-than-expected Japanese sales, I'm not sure anyone will bother with a localisation. It'd be a massive shame, even if the game's a fairly standard RPG outside the gorgeous Ghibli trappings. And the PS3 version looks stunning.

Everybody was expecting Level-5 to finally start operations on at least their US office by now, but still nada on that front.

Sony passed on White Knight Chronicles 2 but Namco are localising that instead, Level-5 could have done it I would have thought if Sony weren't interested.

NoE have shown a remarkable level of care for localising/distributing Japanese games with uncertain commercial appeal in Europe, unlike their American cousins, quite a turnaround from last gen, when it was the exact opposite situation.

Well, as I mentioned in the Ni No Kune thread, Level 5 will be revealing their future Euro releases in August at their own Vision exhibition (more info).

With over 70 quests to solve, grab a piece of the action this summer with all-new adventure game Solatorobo: Red the Hunter

Prepare to reach new heights among islands in the sky in the much anticipated adventure game Solatorobo: Red the Hunter, which launches across Europe on 1st July 2011, exclusively for the Nintendo DS family of portable systems.

Enter a world of epic fantasy action in this high octane RPG set in beautiful graphics created by internationally renowned designers, Nobuteru Yuki, and animated by MADHOUSE. You take on the story of Red Savarin, a 17 year old anthropomorphic dog, and his robot, Dahak, as he does battle with giant robotic “mecha” and other enemies on his journey through the mythical floating islands of the Shepherd Republic. After a chance encounter with the mysterious Elh, he gets inadvertently entangled in an epic adventure to save the world from destruction at the claws of the ancient evil being, Lares.

Navigate the intriguing islands, taking on a series of different quests; from fighting robots to battling sky pirates, racing planes and defeating giant monsters, while exploring the sky on your own airship and ultimately saving the world and discovering the truth behind the mysterious floating islands.

There are a number of gameplay modes in Solatorobo, including “Quests”, where completing quests earns you money and the ability to increase your Hunter Level, while in “Battling” you must lift and smash robot opponents to gain experience points which extend the amount of life that Red has.

The game unfolds in two parts, each consisting of a number of chapters in which you must fight to keep the earth in this island-like state to prevent mass extinction and the end of the world as we know it!

If you can’t wait for launch, visit the dedicated Solatorobo: Red the Hunter website where you’ll find a series of episodic trailers and a sneak preview of what the game has in store. The first minute long video is available to view today and a total of four new videos will be posted bi-weekly in the run up to launch on 1st July 2011.

Solatorobo is easily accessible for any age, and is packed with fast-paced action and over 20 hours of game play to test your skill and dexterity. Ensure you are at the forefront of all the action with Solatorobo: Red the Hunter as it launches across Europe on the 1st July 2011 exclusively for the Nintendo DS family of portable systems.

SCEE are releasing White Knight Chronicles 2 in Europe and because of that we get it this month whilst the US get it a few months later. I believe Namco are responsible for the US release

Some gameplay videos.

The game's out next Friday. Can't wait to see some reviews, although from what I've read so far it's a bit on the short (but sweet) and easy side. Looks really pretty though.

An Edge 7 (or 6) methinks.

Famitsu - 33/40

NGamer - 81%

Official Nintendo Magazine - 81%

Found it on Play:

The Japanese version is apparently DSi enhanced. I don't know what the extras are but I haven't been able to find any info about the Euro version being DSi enhanced. Anybody know anything?

It's supposed to be DSi enhanced as well (mainly extra sidequests, afaik).

I'll post impressions tomorrow night hopefully, if it arrives tomorrow that is. Very excited.

DS has been superb this year. Considering DS and PSP are in their twilight years, they have had some exceptional software in 2011

So any impressions yet?

I'm currently waiting for my copy to arrive too. Reviews are generally positive, so I went with it. It's a shame you can hardly find it anywhere. I paid £30 for mine. Been quite some time since I paid full price for a game, but it seems Solatorobo will be one of those rare last releases. It's already close to £50 on amazon.co.uk.
