Assassin’s Creed: Revelations

The Sarge

Recommended Posts

I think I read that. Was it on IGN?

Judging by the video The Sarge posted it looks like your default status is now discreet, and you have to build up to incognito by staying undetected near your target for about ten seconds if you want the big points. Hopefully that'll slow the pace of the game a little and encourage people to play smart.

Yeah they also made concessions to the god awful priority of the Assassin. The most unfair aspect of the multiplayer was when you saw through someone's foolish or well played attempt to assassinate you, try to stun them, and no wait, you die! It's like, why are I not rewarded for being perceptive enough to know whose after you. Isn't that the point.

More annoying than being killed by a player who just runs up to you, is hunting a player that is constantly running around.

You want to stay stealthy to get maximum points but they don't care and just run around, meaning lots of walking for you playing catch up and more time for your hunter to kill you.

It's still a unique and rewarding online experience, as long as everyone "gets it". Some of the kills/escapes/knock-outs are amazing and the level of tension is palpable.

Looking forward to see where they take it.

What is it you dislike about the HUD?

It takes up loads of the screen and it really intrusive. I'm thinking mainly about that massive health bar, mainly. There have got to be cleverer ways of communicating that info. Some of the stuff should only appear when it's relevant.

I guess it never really struck me as being any more intrusive than other similar games. I agree though that it would be nice if some elements would fade from view when they aren't needed.

I don't think it's been explicitly stated in this thread yet that the release date for Revelations is 15th November. Because clearly aren't enough games coming out that month already.

A little more multiplayer info:

http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/09/assassins-creed-revelations-multiplayer-preview-pop-pop/

Two major game changers were up next, with Meunier first explaining a new concept for AC multiplayer in "contested kills." In so many words, rather than being stabbed by someone clearly running at you full speed, should you spot them in time and press the punch button, a "contested kill" will result in both players being stunned. Take that, game breaking perma-runners!

In the same vein, assassination animation times have been changed dramatically. In Brotherhood, all kills cost the same amount of time -- everything from an obvious running murder to a stealth assassination. In Revelations, however, stealth is rewarded with shorter animations, incentivizing players further toward clandestine kills rather than open deathmatch.

Both of those sound pretty encouraging.

Some good manhunt footage:

Reviving stunned teammates! Taunts!

The one thing that's always bothered me about the AC games is the Lock-on. I've always found it fiddly & unreliable, locking onto the wrong target, losing locks when AFAIK it shouldn't & never being sure when the lock is active.

I've never heard anyone else complain about it though, so I guess its just me. :(

You're rarely rushed so if you lock onto the wrong person, you can always change it. In the heat of battle it doesn't really matter who you're going for unless you have a major target, in which case you can change quickly with the right stick or remove it and lock on again.

Does anyone have any theories about Altair then? Some people seem to think he discovered the secret of immortality when he looked into the Apple for the final time as indicated in the final journal entry, and Ezio and Altair will meet.

That would be fucking ridiculous, but immensely awesome.

Forgive me if its totally obvious & i'm a idot for not noticing, but are the character models for Altair, Ezio & Desmond supposed to be identical or do they just share a family resemblence? I find it hard to tell with the hood up all the time.

Altair and Desmond yes, Ezio is supposed to resemble them but not look exactly the same.

Maybe it'll be Desmond who meets Altair.

I think that's highly unlikely. Unless he meets Altair in the same way Ezio met Minerva (not the actual person, just a pre-recorded interactive hologram)

Of course all devs have hinted at is Altair leaving "something" locked under Masyaf for Ezio, while Desmond tries to fix his mind and get out of his coma. In the process Desmond will have his backstory developed, as well as Subject 16 and all the other questions that were raised in the last 2 games being answered.

I wouldn't mind Altair playing a larger part in the future, the idea of him being immortal and meeting Ezio while obviously ridiculous, is awesome haha.

I think Altair was a little hard done by as his escapades obviously lacked all the characterisation and extra features of AC2 and beyond.

Also after 3 games, I think I'm done with Ezio and the Renaissance, it's been a brilliant setting and he's been a great character, but I'd love for his story to be wrapped up neatly in AC:R.

Wacky theory:

Desmond IS Altair!

Cue wibbly wobbly timey wimey explanation.

Desmond finally gathers the ancient artefacts and goes to the central temple of Those Who Came Before, and finds a time portal, so he goes back in time to warn people about the future and stop the Templars before they grow too powerful... he gets sent back a 1000 years and ends up fathering a child, who's mother names Altair!

It will be, Ubisoft said this is his closing chapter.

I'd quite like Altair and Ezio to travel forward in time and brutally murder Desmond and his cronies (particularly headphones girl and the cunt with the glasses), and replace them with assassins that aren't gigantic cock-ends. What's ubisoft's email address?

Mini update...

Recruits to get their own personal quests and more interaction.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations will offer more "unique" assassins to recruit, more ways to employ them and new "Assassin's Dens" in place of Brotherhood's Borgia Towers, according to creative director Alex Amancio.

Speaking to OXM's Jon Hicks about what Revelations would add to Brotherhood's titular team-building system, Amancio commented: "we're trying to put more uniqueness into everyone you recruit".

"It's not just like random people, there is an evolution," he said. "Each one might have a personal quest. We're also adding new gameplay elements, to hold you to the assassins. No longer will you only interact with the assassins by calling them to help you out of a danger spot. You will have other gameplay. There are two systems actually, one's very low level, something you'll interact with directly in the city. The other one will be more high level - it's sort of a mini trading game where you send them all on missions."

Assassins can now level up to Master status, and there will be "something else" you can do with them once they've achieved the honour. Intriguing.

The equally mysterious Assassin's Dens "consolidate a lot of the systems that already exist," explained Amancio.

"You know the Borgia Towers? You don't have that but you have something that's an evolution of that, you have something that's an evolution of city improvement, and all of that's consolidated in the Assassin's Dens."

As with Borgia Towers, Dens will be rationed out at one per district. Each will be "interconnected with the whole ambience of each district", reflecting the local aesthetic as well as how that district "reacts" to Ezio's presence. Some districts will be hostile, others neutral, suggesting that at some point Ezio may actually find himself working against the assassins.

AC: Rev to feature more linear sections.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations will offer more of the "Prince of Persia" style linear exploration sections featured in Assassin's Creeds 2 and Brotherhood, together with "exotic" gameplay mechanics akin to those enabled by Leonardo da Vinci's war machines.

"You know how in Assassin's Creed we've always had the typical systematic city, then missions on top of that, and then sometimes we have more linear moments?" creative director Alex Amancio asked adept crowd-mingler Jon Hicks last week. "Some people have called them "Prince of Persia" moments within Assassin's Creed.

"We're taking that idea and having more linear sequences. But instead of having more challenge-based sequences, we're having highly realised sequences. So we're drawing the emotion from the actual realisation and intensity, rather than from climbing puzzles for example. You will have those moments in the game."

"Remember we had exotic gameplay sequences, like Leonardo's flying machines?" he went on. "We're still going to have exotic gameplay sequences with new exotic mechanics, but we're also going to wrap them in more of a highly realised fashion."

Pffft, nonsense. It made perfect sense to me. Why only a few days ago I was participating in an exotic linear sequence, and I must say that while it was rather challenge-based, it did occur in a very highly realised fashion.
