Da Costa gone to Lokomotiv Moscow for £1.3 mill. Brilliant in the air but makes 18 YO Rio look the personification of concentration on the floor. I wonder how much is down to BFS not fancying him and how much is the oncoming court case.

Just aswell he is no longer our responsibility given his ongoing court case. Solid player though and I thought he performed well for us.

Yeah, he clearly has bags of potential and I reckon that BFS could have coached the basics of defending into him and got him to concentrate and showboat a lot less, but I think this is more evidence of the pruning of players on Nani contracts (think Kovac is the last one at the club?) and with the sexual assault charge it's given the green light to be shipped off to Russia.

I hope this means BFS has seen enough of Reid to think he's worth keeping (I think he is) and not that we're just going to sign some journeyman defender looking for a last hurrah and fat pay cheque.

As a Stoke fan, its a shame to see Faye go, he was immense for us the first year we came up (he was even voted our player of the year) and was great up till last year when he really didnt get a look in thanks to Huth and Shawcross forming a decent partnership at the back. Always a top bloke with nice things to say about the club, and always worked his socks off. But its good for him to move on to somewhere he might get used more, and I hope he does really well for you guys (and I think he will to be honest).

Season Ticket renewed today. So I've done my bit, would like to see the other end of the bargain being held up now.

Well it seems Kovac has gone to Basle, Olympiakos are interested in Illunga ( ) and Faubert is rumoured to be going to Lazio, so sod results, the club are doing their bit via these three transfers IMO! :bye:

A few days old this news but nonetheless...

Queens Park Rangers have inquired about Carlton Cole, with the newly promoted Premier League club set to make an offer for the West Ham United striker.

West Ham would listen to a bid of around £6m plus add-ons, or even consider a further payment should Neil Warnock's side avoid relegation next season.

Cole, 27, has two years remaining on his contract at Upton Park and has already attracted the interest of Stoke City, who recently had a £3m offer rejected by the Hammers. Tony Pulis has yet to return with an improved bid.

While West Ham are also yet to receive any offers for Scott Parker after the 30-year-old midfielder rejected a £10m move to Fenerbahce, the east London club are still attempting to sign DJ Campbell from Blackpool after a month-long pursuit of the striker. Having agreed to trigger his £1.25m release clause the stumbling block is whether Campbell, who scored 14 goals last season, is prepared to drop to the Championship. The striker favours a move to a Premier League club.

BFS is probably right, same people, same two bob facilities at Chadwell Heath. Whether we like it or not, these guys are highly strung machines these days. The "run it off" school has had its day.

Anyway, looks like Carlton's staying. Not a bad striker for the Championship.

Nice to see Lord Parker playing in the friendlies as well, bearing in mind he's off soon.

Yup.

I just hope that he's less of a sleeping giant this upcoming season and asserts himself more in front of goal. Probably decided to stick around after BFS told Gudjohnsen to take a hike after hesitating to sign for us. Cole's hardly in a position to fight for his place now Ba has gone and I expect good things between him and Piquionne up front.

Pleased with the 3 signings so far. Also looking more and more likely we will keep Cole and Green, and we are trimming the foreign import fat that we had, AND we are introducing our youth players effectively during the pre season.

I am however really curious as to where all our money is coming from. £8 million bid for Shane Long? I don't understand how we were going to be in financial ruin if we went down but have now spent £6 million and looking to spend more (with minimal returns elsewhere so far). I hope we aren't putting all of our eggs in the "Scotty will sell for £10 million" basket because the longer this draws out the more likely I see a cheap deal or season long loan for him.

Apparently we are looking into Owen Hargreaves as well. As much as that would be an awesome signing when fully fit - he clearly will struggle on for injuries for the rest of his career, especially with our track record.

We seem to have got shot of Boa Morte. Liked him at Fulham when he was captain but when he came to WHU he didn't do very much alas.

Ken Dyer wrote in the ES today that we've made a £5M bid for 24yr old Shane Long of Reading. We'll see whether any of this comes to fruition but Shane's already expressed a wish to play in the Prem so we'll see.

Boa Morte is still at the club, he has been linked with Southampton but nothing confirmed yet.

We have made our 4th signing today, Joey O'Brien on a free transfer after being released by, you guessed it, Bolton!!

If he can stay fit, he'll be a solid, if unspectacular, signing. Nice and versatile, doesn't seem to moan and gets on with it; an Irish Spector although I wish we'd managed to keep super specs :(

Four clean sheets in a row now and another good result against a decent team and best of all, neat fluid football with nary a longball in sight. We were promised long, clogger football that would make a mockery of the clubs so called tradition, and we get this instead? BFS out!! :quote:

*cough*

Seems we've bid for Beckford too. Not quite sure about that but he certainly knows where the goal is in the Championship and we're going to get trumped by Leicester (Man) City for any other targets we go in for (£8mill for Long, in cash, in one hit  )

Jermaine Beckford has only ever played 10 games in the Championship and failed to score.

He was scoring for fun in League 1 when he was at Leeds United.

Ah yes, you stand correct. Makes me even more wary of him then.

There's not a massive difference between League 1 and the Championship to be perfectly honest - other than the Premier League teams who come down with their parachute payments and big squads. Beckford knows where the goal is and played well for Everton last season - largely up front by himself or alongside a player who wasn't a striker. If a striker knows where the goal is, he'll score goals at any level.

Who would you rather have? Carlton Cole who wants out?

West Ham are my second team - see my post up near the top of this thread. I've looked at who you've signed and I do feel that Sam Allardyce is filling the squad with players he knows and players who'll do well at Championship level - I expect West Ham to do a Newcastle this season. I'd rather they went for youth and went for players who love the club rather than players who have dropped a league for bigger wages (Nolan being the main culprit).

Yeah, pre-season has gone well and the team seem to be playing well too. Freddie Sears has looked very sharp and I hope he gets the nod infront of Piquionne.

I have no idea what the Cardiff line up will be as BFS has chopped and changed the team during the pre-season games. Also the reduction to 5 subs in the championship means there is going to be good competiton just to make the 16 squad which can only be a good thing.

It's looking very likely then that Green, Parker and Cole will all start the season in the Championship - I never thought that would happen to be honest.

Looking forward to the Cardiff game now - c'mon!

Well, I don't think Cole does want out, more that Allardyce either doesn't like the look of him - either through application, wages or potential injury issues - or he thinks he's expendable for the good of the squad. As for the second point, the top five players with the most time on the pitch for pre-season are three youth players: Brown, Spence and Montano, one academy graduate who seems to have cemented his place at centre half (Tomkins) and Reid who is young and eager to prove himself. I think Sam has actually got a very good blend of youth and experience in the squad at the moment and I'm glad he's giving time to fringe players. I think Tombides would have featured more and had a good shot at getting to the edges of the first team if he hadn't just been diagnosed with testicular cancer.

The only thing the squad needs now is clarification on Parker, and a poacher. If the latter can be filled by Beckford (who I admit I don't know a great deal about other than he played for Leeds before Everton) then fantastic, but I won't be pinning my hopes on him, and especially not Carew who we've also sounded out.

I see you've been linked with Jay Lloyd Samuel.

Avoid at all costs although I won't mind if he plays against us next Sunday - especially if he is still pissed (as he was in his last game for us last season).

We've a history with pissed players at this club (Gary Charles springs to mind straight away) so he'd fit right in ;)

I think the issue is, that left back is a problem position. At the moment we have Herita Ilunga there who in his first season was fantastic, but as soon as he got his contract went right off the boil, or Christian Montano who is a youth team player traditionally played left wing/attacting mid position, but can be drafted into LB at a push. We're short of bodies and J Lloyd would be good cover (for the right price). I have faith that Big Sam wouldn't put up with any crap like players turning up sloshed either so I'm not really that worried about that aspect.

I just hope we get some good Premier club youngsters in on loan for the season as it's a long campaign in the Champ and we need cover (not as much as Forest mind ;) )

He was pretty crap in all the games he played for us although he hadn't played for a while.

Not sure what'll happen on Sunday - you should beat us on paper, our side is very new and I'm not certain we know what the best 11 is yet and there won't be many travelling fans.

I'll happily take a point.
