What a day out, always good to spoil someone's cup final . Quick blog has been published, as there wasn't much to say. The game itself was not exactly great. Missed the Romero thing. I assume it was when they got tangled up, when Romero hacked him down. Way over the other side of the pitch for me.

Still pinching myself, unbelievable stuff. For our (mostly) second string to hold their "second" string, who would be more than good enough to compete for top 4 in the league, is just exceptional. Only listened on the radio, but sounds like Ben Johnson had another motm performance - still no one has managed to score a goal when he is on the pitch.

Will put something up later, but what a night. Kids for a quid and Man City at home in a cup. To be fair I was going home at half time in my head. With all the drama of the pens, I can say I was a wreck by the end. I actually said to Mrs B when I got home, that I felt like a fan again. They took away over 50% of my life history when they moved stadium but last night, all those old feelings came back. Amazing.

Had to watch on TV despite having a ticket as I couldn't make it to the game. Far from our best and we still won 4-1. I saw Rice give the ball away twice and even he mentioned it in the post match interview. He wasn't happy. He's some player. Johnson is getting better and better and fully deserves his place in front of Coufal at the moment. Big week coming up. Really looking forward to it.

We march on, winning again without being on top form. Genk away next. A win there and and a draw between Vienna and Zagreb, wins us the group with 2 games to go.

All very odd. Can we do a job against Liverpool on Sunday ? I won't be in attendance so am shouldering none of the blame.

The ball he played out to Johnson for the first goal was sublime.

Well. The best thing that happened today was Liverpool equalising. We came out after that, then the second half a better team. Fornals had a tremendous game. Non-stop running, skill and finishing to boot. This season is beyond my wildest dreams from what I thought was achievable at the start. Who knows how high we can go? I am certainly going to enjoy the ride.

Unbelievable result.

I thought to myself before the game, if we can keep Salah quiet, we may have a chance and we did just that. Liverpool are a class side but we battled and made our set pieces work again.

This team has tremendous character, desire, commitment and energy. The players work their socks off and defend as a unit from the front to the back.  Over the years we have lacked any real threat from corners but that has all changed now, we look dangerous every time we get one.  David Moyes and his backroom staff rightfully deserve all the plaudits, just incredible times to be a West Ham fan.

Have to say, Zouma - what a great addition. I was very pleased when we got him as always liked him at Chelsea. What I love about him is he reads the game so well, knowing when to play and when to just clear the lines. There’s no messing about, he simply gets the job done.  Fornals has really grown as a player and there’s more to come from him, he gets better and better.

We keep on going, 3 points from top. We are massive. 😉 #COYI

Yeah. That's a gutter for him. A solid performer each week. To be fair to Dawson, he came on Sunday and fitted in no problem. I've got no qualms about him becoming the centre back pairing with Zouma.

Only problem with having Dawson starting every week is he hit a horrific patch of form toward the end of last season partly, I think, due to him being first choice starter and it taking its toll on him. I actually put his bad form down to the reason we lost out on UCL rather than the injuries to Declan or Antonio (although they didn't help things).

Glad the club seem to be taking up the option on the extra year for Oggy regardless of the extent of the injury. He's been top draw for several years and a big reason why we have stayed, and now flourished in the division. Nice to see a bit of loyalty shown so it obviously didn't come from porno dwarf or the werewolf.

  • 2 weeks later...

Worst performance of the season for me and lucky to escape with a point. Only West Ham could concede against 10 men. 😒  We badly missed Cresswell deliveries from the left.

If we are to maintain our challenge around the European places, then we must sign a striker in Jan. Antonio has been poor of late and we have absolutely nothing in reserve.

Frustrating one. We played right into Brighton's hands, with Fabianski lumping every goal kick up and then not winning the second balls. Felt like Zouma and Dawson weren't comfortable playing out from the back. I am a little surprised how big the loss of Ogbonna seems to be.

We did create enough to kill the game off, but Bowen needs to be more clinical. We can't be relying on corners every game. I don't know what is going on with Antonio, whether it is fitness, lack of confidence because of the pressure of being THE centre forward, or conversely because he is THE centre forward and has no pressure on his place. I do think there is more to his game than goals though and we get a bit fixated on that metric. In general, not tonight and not recently, he does do a lot in our build-up play that goes a bit unsung.

I'd like to see Lanzini get a run in the side, probably over Benrahma. Coufal should stay in the team as well even if that means Johnson loses his place when Cresswell is back. I think it is harsh on Johnson who has been really good, but Coufal offers so much more going forward.

Good to see Soucek finally get on the scoresheet as well.

I'd agree with all that. We know Zouma isn't a playmaking defender but having him on the wrong side is exacerbating the problem. We could easily rectify that by bringing Diop in who is a left footed CB and moving Zouma into his proper position but Moyles obviously doesn't trust Issa over Dawson.

I thought Benny was terrible. He has the skill to make something from nothing and ghost past a player but that counts for nothing when you either a) give the ball away straight after by biffing a simple pass or b) trying to curl it into the top corner despite much better options being available.

Mikey is clearly going through a thing ATM and having Benny, Fornals and Bowen all being under par is effecting him, but he didn't even look like he broke a sweat last night. I'd be tempted to have Fornals left, Bowen right, Manu as a deep playmaker and Vlasic in an advanced role in the centre which is his preferred position. GIve Benrhama and Antonio a rest.

Coufal was partially at fault for the equalizer as he played Lampty onside. He could see right down the line and didn't even try to get back 😕
