He was onside, just. I'm more angry at the stupid header Fredricks gave away that led to the goal.

Antonio was pump (he's completely isolated and needs dropping) Lanzini was pump (hurts me to say that) Fornals anonymous, Coufal not as bad as last week but still stank the place out and Soucek I thought was still out with covid for all he did.

If Moyes doesn't sign some players I think we'll be packing Declan's bags for him this summer.

Antonio needs replacing or assistance at least. Fornals seems to have dropped in form since his wife has their baby. I thought Soucek did alright in the second half. But we were getting battered. Stats don’t lie and all that.

Really surprised we couldn't get anything over the line. I don't know if it is Sullivan and Gold not wanting to spend before selling up (and selling Rice before they go!) or Moyes being extremely cautious (he was known for that at Everton plus he has talked admiringly about the Red Bull model of signing young and bringing them through gradually rather than splashing for marquee signings). I also think the reason he hasn't got backup for Antonio is because tactically he wants to move away from one up front to more of a false 9 model over time.

But none of that changes the fact that we have a window of opportunity right now to do something, those opportunities don't come along very often for clubs like ours, and failure to strengthen is a huge gamble and evidence of a lack of ambition. We might as well being giving a green light to Rice and Bowen and maybe even Fornals to leave in the summer.

Disappointing.

Yes, very poor from the club on the transfer window.  We have one converted injury prone striker to see us through challenging top 4, FA Cup and Europa.  However, we have three right backs. It's all rather bizarre.  Any injuries and it will be downhill from then on.  I just hope the atmos at the stadium stays positive as I fear if we start going behind in games, things could turn as there has been a lot of bad feeling on this window and rightly so.

We didn't deserve that, at all. Fredericks didn't look good enough for the 6th tier, let alone the premier league. I can see why Moyes doesn't trust Kral, he won't be getting a contract. Yarmolenko, well we all know about Yarmolenko already.

If Zouma has fucked his knee again, then that transfer window is going to look even more of a disaster.

The first half was the worst I think I have ever seen from a West Ham side.  Yarmolenko is just a disgrace and his dive summed him up perfectly. How he played for 120 mins is a complete joke and I’m pointing the finger at Moyes here too. How can he watch that and keep the bloke on all game. WTF does Okoflex need to do to get a game?

Aside from the idiot above, the worst offenders:

Diop - just a walking disaster every time he plays.

Kral - not good enough, simple as that.

Fredericks - see above.

Surley some of the young players we have are better than the shite above? Why are they not getting a look in?

I like Ben Johnson but not at left back. I hate it when we play a right back at left back!  He does not look comfortable but it’s not his fault, again Moyes picks the team and I just don’t get the logic with this one.

Bowen is not a striker yet Moyes says there are not many better back ups to Anotonio than him. Yes there are, someone who is a striker for starters.

We won yet the whole game was awful. Declan Rice was the only player to come out with any credit. He will be gone in the Summer and who can blame him.

Well played Kidderminster and they will feel hard done by and rightly so.  Best of luck to them in their league campaign.

I agree with pretty much all that but I think Fornals was good when he came on. Set up multiple opportunities (including assisting Rice for his goal) and was progressive in the pass.

I don't like Bowen as a striker. He doesn't have a strikers positioning, he needs to learn to not hit his shoot straight down the 'keepers throat and moving him upfront means you miss his work rate and covering on the right.

I think Moyes was trying to see if some of the back up players were up for the task but  A: I'd argue that before the end of the Jan window would be the time to do that, not the week after it's ended and B: no, they definitely were not, which means he's going to flog the first team to death because the alternatives aren't good enough.

I get where he is coming from. You don't want to sign a player and they do an Aubameyang and you don't really want to pay over the odds for a player as a club like ours can't absorb excess fees like any of the other top 6 can. Moyes really should know though, that the window wasn't about trying to replace Antonio or Ogbonna (although he will need replacing in the next season or two if he gets a new deal) but supplementing them and providing an alternative so when your only striker has played 3 games in a week 5 thousand miles away you don't have to move your most effective RW up front. But what do I know.

The lack of signings in Jan is hitting hard now. We look jaded and too many players just coasting along. Antonio has no one challenging for his place so there’s nothing worrying him, he’s been very poor of late. No idea what is going on with Souceck either. Benrahma always the easy target for Moyes with subbing him, it happens so often.

Do you think we should even bother too much with the league? Focus on the cups. We've dropped points against teams that we should be winning / drawing against to get top 6, I can't see 4-7 not being made up of Wolves / Arsenal / Spurs / Utd.

I know it sounds strange but rest some of the fatigued players in PL games, a top half finish and a decent cup run / final would still be good and a million miles from the dirge of 2/3 seasons ago.

If Moyes switches it around in midfield and stops pandering to Declan's wish to be Steven Gerrard, we will look better overnight. Its only what, another 10 games for the EL and the FA cup ? :)

That’s a fair shout. Not long to go.

thanks for the blog by the way, have been reading it for a few years having not gone to West Ham game in many years. It’s good to read a rational report on the games.

Just like the Liverpool game, had chances but not putting them away. If only we had a striker..... We did give the ball away too cheaply, Fornals was the main culprit, will need to cut that out for next week.

Still, main thing was ensuring we were still in the tie and at 1-0, we most certainly are. Should be a great atmosphere next week, looking forward to it.

The crazy thing now is that winning the Europa League is probably a more realistic route to Champions League qualification than a top 4 finish. Five games to go in Europa League and we don't need to win every game, we just need to progress vs 9 games in the Prem League of which realistically we need to win 7/9.

Plus you win a trophy at the same time.
