PGR2 - Easiest Way to unlock cars

How do you get the cars that are locked? I have bought the best of the ones that are available, but some aren't purchaseable. I have finished the main kudos mode and have a fairly high rank.

As someone else said, you unlock them for completing World Series on various medal levels, here's the details-

Steel - Delfino Feroce - Supercar with insane acceleration, it blows away anything else in its class, very useful

Bronze - Ferrari 250 GTO - Classic that doesn't seem to be as good as the 275, a curious choice for a prize, really

Silver - Porsche 911 GT1 - Ultimate that statistically looks inferior to the Enzo, but it only gives up 10mph top speed andh andles far better

Gold - Mercedes CLK - Ultimate which I hear is quite acceleration heavy (I'll let you know for sure if I ever do this last gold medal)

Platinum - TVR Cerbera Spered 12 - Ultimate which, in real life, claims to do 240mph, and hopes to better the F1's 241mph world record, if you ever see someone online with one of these, they've probably cheated

Thanks for the info. I think all the people with the top times on the weekly challenges are using the TVR. I really want that porsche as I get on better with them than the ferrari's, but silver on all the final challanges (that correct?) sounds like it could prove too much for me.

Silvers are easy to get, right up until the end. In fact, Ultimate is much easier than some other series, such as american muscle.

I hate that class so much, why oh why did they include it? Hated every moment of playing those races and now i have to go back and do it all again to get all gold.

I suppose they had to cover American muscle cars, though they could've made some better choices on which to include, too many are old and very crappy to handle. The classics series seemed a bit annoying to begin with, but it's heaven compared to this.

Cool, thanks for the tip!

It is a shame that all the classes are locked and that you have to progress through each of them in a linear fashion if you want to unlock better cars and therefore be at less of a disadvantage in multiplayer. Admittedly you only have to pass each kudos challenge on "steel medeal" (novice) to get through it, but still.

Penguin Lad's tip allows you to leapfrog and unlock cars from classes that you haven't unlocked yet. Anyone who plays online will know that is a Good Thing.

Personally though, I prefer driving the small cars and doing cool kudos moves... it seems like all of the XBL games lately are just "choose an enzo ferrari, choose Nurburgring, go very fast in a straight line". Or worse, races that allow people to choose any car from any class - seems quite silly to have a Ford Focus racing against a Porsche 911 dontcha think?

If you get with the right people, they'll often drop their car down to the same as everyone elses.

We did this last night, it was cool. Didn't stop me from winning though

That's the only problem really. Even though there is a way to unlock cars from classes you haven't reached, anyone who has unlocked those higher classes is probably going to be better than you anyway. Quite often when someone asks to drop down to default cars they can't understand why they still lose, until I remind them that I've played 60 hours to their 6.

I dunno I seem to beat people with much higher Xbox Live rankings.

I'm probably just better. Not that I'm trying to be big headed or anything, tis just a fact. My Ridge Racer skillz have returned.

Lol, it's best to ignore the Live rankings, which are one of the biggest mistakes Bizarre made in PGR2. Admittedly I have no idea what would make a better system, but at the moment it's basically just a measure of how long you've played online, skill barely comes into it.

I'd do it like MotoGP, keep a record of your fastest lap on each course - whether it's in an online race or in time trial and then add them all up. The player with the lowest total lap time for all the courses together is in position number 1 etc.. If you haven't raced a course then assign a default time.

I thought this worked really well for MotoGP (well except for when people cheated, but there you go), and is miles better than PGR2s "the person who has played it online the most is the winner" type rankings.

Incidently, its seems the cities for download are...

Paris and Long Beach LA.

Well, according to this guy anyway.

Hmm, interesting. To be honest I don't have a preference on what cities should be downloadable, as long as they're nice to race around. Some more tracks would be nice, though if they're not as epic as Nurburgring they might lose some appeal. Still, this means I can drive round LA without playing True Crime, something I'd like to avoid.

Whilst I'm here, something occured to me last week. Does anyone else remember a story about MSR that said Bizarre had mapped out Alcatraz with the intention of having it be a bonus city on the DC game? I wonder if they could rebuild it for PGR2.

Presumably most downloadable cars would be supercars and upwards. It'd be nicei f they came out with an entire new car class (probably premium, but I'd pay it for 5 or 6 new cars in one go). Anyone for Group B cars? I could make use of a nice Quattro or Metro.

A Metro on the cone challenge would be ace! :)

It's quite farcical really. I've heard people say a couple of times "We'll pick Enzos and let you win so you can level up". I leave in disgust when I hear that. The whole point of the ranking system, flawed as it is, is to enable you to find people of a certain level to play against.

They should have just used the single player ranking as it's a try indicator of your progression. I've lost to number 1 ranked players and beaten number 8 ranked ones, what a shame.

I've just started playing MotoGP so what's this cheating thing then?

There were a few unintentional shortcuts in MotoGP and MotoGP2 which let you do stupidly fast laps - the last time I had a peek at the MotoGP2 scoreboards one of the courses had all the top 10 with 30 second lap times - which if you play it "properly" is impossible. But apparently they fixed that bug the other week and reset all the scoreboards.

I suppose the most obvious way would be to just store your highest kudos score for each race. The only problem is that you rarely score a large amount of kudos in an online race, certainly nowhere near the score you'd get in a single player task, so it wouldn't be too practical to use it for gaining tokens. The current method is decent for that, just useless for determining the skill of a player..

Yes, online kudos rankings aren't worth diddly except when you need dem tokens to get some better motors. What would be a fairer sysytem? Um, fiddly i know but the fastest race time for each track and each car would sort out the wheat from the chaff.

In my experience people who have Enzos can't drive them for toffee, i normally get the better of them in a plain ol' Saleen B) . The koenigsegg on the other hand... The best racing is in a one make race (Twin-turbo Supras anyone?). Everyone's on a level playing field so it's just down to boring ol' driving skills then...

There are some classes though where the cars all have their own advantages, but none are clearly 'better' than others. Pacific muscle is best for this. A skyline will take an evo VII on the straight, but the evo will take him back on the bend. This makes for some really exciting races.

Even the super car class is fairly evenly matched.
