They're talking about the new Zelda on Gametrailers now. Apparently the whole overworld is "like one huge dungeon."

Skyward Sword, or the one they had on the WiiU demo?

I'm actually vaguely impressed by Game Trailers coverage. Actual proper interviews and informative back and forths between the presenters and the guests. ABOUT VIDEO GAMES. The end times are surely upon us.

Yeah it's been ace. Never really been to the site before E3 but will be returning.

I want to see photos of people drawing cocks on the touch screen.

It's become a christening moment for any Nintendo touch screen device now.

I dunno, bluray essentially is just cd tech with a different coloured laser isn't it? Assuming there aren't difficulties with patent infringement it'd make sense for someone Nintendo's size to have a proprietary format, plus it could well make piracy harder.

Yea, that's probably true.

Is it backwards compatible with Gamecube games then?

It doesn't have the ports for it, and Nintendo do tend to drop back compatibility after a few gens (no GBA support in 3DS for example), but there's no reason why it couldn't.

I imagine it won't just because having the disc drive be able to read the smaller discs probably costs a bit more.

Well this was the most unimpressive console announcement I've ever seen at E3. It looks like it should go down well with same casual audience that loved the Wii so much but I wonder how appealing a new console is to the core audience that Reggie went on and on about. Why buy a new console that is about as powerful (or a bit more powerful even, but definitely not a generation ahead) as the console they've been using for the last 6 to 5 years? For third-party games that are also available and look practically the same on the consoles they already have, just to play them with a controller that doesn't even have proper analogue sticks and looks as comfortable to hold as a dreamcast controller?

Who cares about Gamecube compatibility, it's two generations of machine and a totally different disc format away now. Sony dropped support of PS2 from the PS3 and then sold numerous collections of HD collections of old PS2 games, and no way Microsoft's next machine will be backwards compatible with the original Xbox considering the piss poor effort they put into it with the 360. I don't see why Nintendo should be held to a different standard and it's not like 99% of people will actually care anyway.

I'm intrigued what the hardcore masses would consider an impressive console announcement at this stage. I don't mean to be troll-y, but what more can be offered? What will the next generation in home consoles be, other than slightly prettier graphics and faster framerates, beyond something a bit more 'out there'?

I just wonder if there is a plateau to be reached sometime in terms of raw power of the machines. Certainly, it could be argued that the true next generation is a few years ahead still so there's no need for Nintendo to release an interim product, but it does seem that the trend over recent years has been to offer different gaming experiences, like it or not (as evidenced by Sony and Microsoft jumping on the bandwagon too). And if not, well you'll just have to wait a bit longer I suppose for a massive upgrade hardware-wise.
