and my next point...

I heard that even if you have a chip you can "switch off", Microsoft has implemented a check of the hard drive itself. Therefore:

(chip_off + xbox_live = harddrive_scan) => banned

My local chipper is currently working on software driven switches, which would transfer data and mask anything on the hard drive which shouldn't be there. Might have to have a cup of tea while trying to get onto XBox live.

that's bullshit. it's like when you connect to the internet* ms scanning your hdd to see if you've got any warez or something. scare mongering methinks.

Yod@ chipped my xbox, it has 3 switches on the front, one of which turns the chip off (and progressive scan, unfortunately). I have been playing PGR2 like this and have had no problems.....

But remember....big brother is watching

I can play my PAL games on Live in prog. scan. with the chip off mate.

All you have to do is use the Enigmah video mode switch app. to set the Xbox to NTSC video mode (not to be confused with the actual region of the machine which will still be PAL) then, with the Hi-Def kit plugged in, go to the options in the Xbox dash and set 480p to 'On'.

I think you've missed my point here, can you play copied games online?

No, and if you could it would be the worst thing ever. It'd just open up the floodgates for all the cheaters.

I don't quite understand your original post, are you saying that you want to be able to play on Live with games that you've copied on to your hard drive?

Well thats bullshit surely, you can use cheats on the HDD with non-copied games, rendering your point, well, useless.

See PGR2 for details.

Eh? The way I read it for PGR2, you have to edit the ini files from the game disc, so the only way you can do that is to copy it to your hard drive and edit them there, so you can't use the PGR2 hacks/cheats online.

Or have I read it wrong and you edit the cache files like you do with the Halo hacks?

'scuse me, I'm a biut grumpy today

People have been using uber cars online, proving you can somehow take it on live without consequence. I don't know how tbh.

I recently looked ast the contents of my HDD, and its full of crap from PGR2, which pisses me off. Big files too, and considering I play from disc, this is unnaceptable.

As I say, I'm grumpy today

AFAIK that's just people unlocking all the cars and using the Cerbera online, not people using the 350mph Enzo etc.. So while it is cheating, it's not of the sort that having some ninja hacked car could ruin time trail times would be.

Eh??

I didn't realise you could do this. Can you explain (in VERY simple terms) how this works?

And it definitely doesn't screw up your live account?

PGR2 just isn't the same without prog scan on ;)

I'm guessing most of the guys playing things like CounterStrike and... well anything not Halo or TS2 on XBconnect are playing copies on chipped Xbox's.

As everyone else asi, playing on live with chip on = floodgates open for cheaters, not good. At least having "sampled" all the live games you can at least plump down hard cash for the one you think is worthy and play properly

That's only the cache part of the HD though (X, Y, Z) all games use these to an extent, one partion of up to three games I think.

It saves loading info from the disc if you come back to play a game a while later.

Take Halo for instance: load a map, turn off Xbox, come back to load the same map and it wont take as long because it'll load it from the HD.
