I used to be an avid collector, but then i realised that i was spending more time and money aquiring items than actually enjoying them for what they were meant for.....

Like car collectors who just store them in a garage and never use them on the road.....completely pointless and unfulfilling.......

It's likely he took the "chassis" of the controller apart to paint it, so as not to mess up the techno-stuff inside.
