I kinda feel like I broke the fifth mission.

got into Dunwall Tower lobby, planted some rats on the floor and watched as about 6 different guards ran over. 3 guards got killed by the other 3 in the panic! I tried it again and this time Lord Regent came running out along with various other guards. He was the last one left as the guards returned to their positions and one bolt to the head later he disintegrated into ash. It was cool but felt a bit cheap considering he's the big baddy. I never even moved out of the vent I crawled into

I never even saw him, or went anywhere near him, but I completed the mission...

Hm that boss battle was actually kind of clever and not too bad at all!

Also, finished! A terribly unsatisfying ending but overall I loved every second of my journey. The final mission was a cake walk even though it seemed like the hardest one yet lol. But maybe they wanted to give you the illusion of it being really difficult to navigate through but actually just letting you feel like a total bad ass. Still, I really like what they've done with that level. So. Many. Paths. To. Take. Crazy! You really feel like the ultimate ninja.

With that being said, Dishonored would've been a below average for me if it weren't for the art style which is simply impeccable! Otherwise I reckon it be a rather average game and all the more 'gamey' for it. It already has some very arbitrary rules and combined with the not-so-special character animations it leans entirely on the lovely art and the level design. There must be a sequel though! Arkane seems to improve their game (no pun intended) with every new title they release. Kudos!

Anyone now for a second run through where death will be the outcome of every encounter! Muahaha.

Finished with 42 hours on the clock, I want more. I want to see more of this city they have crafted, I wish this game had a "Benny" equivalent. I want them to add DLC that gives me incentive to play through it again, a Bastard hard mode because hardest wasn't enough. It was fab from finish to end, some of the level design was questionable but fuck it if the rest of everything wasn't aces. I somehow managed a kill to, not sure how but it wasn't intentional, one bloody death of a clean run :(

This is good in places but feels unfinished, particularly the AI which is on par with a budget PS1 title. It takes the fun out of being stealthy and using a cold, calculated approach when the AI is borderline stupid. There's no satisfaction in luring enemies into traps or trying to outwit them, the stealth mechanics are way too loose and sloppy for that.

The trespassing and exploring is great, but the game itself is a mess.

Well, after a slow start this game has finally got it's claws into me.

I was mildly disappointed with the party level where I found the non-lethal solution very quickly and implemented it without having to explore other areas such as the upper floor.

This was counterbalanced by the Towers mission and the immediate afterath which was superb. I feel the game really comes into it's own in the larger areas like this one and the Bridge. Finding little notes around the place which reflect my earlier actions.

I would like total clarity on the definitions of "non-lethal" and "ghost" before attempting specialist runs though. Are we saying now that deaths caused by rats you summon (rather than pre-existing ones chewing up an unconscious body) don't count against you? Or deaths from turning the security apparatus?

One thing is for sure the "bodies discovered" is just a reflection of where you leave them - in the Tower I dumped 3 in a bathroom but there were literally no other guards alive in the level. My chaos level is still low, maybe because I only kill those who are aggressive towards me.

Love the little nod to Splinter Cell as well.

Great stuff, and I feel I have missed quite a bit too by choosing one particular approach into an area, but equally I can see this would be a very short game if approached in a certain way because there is no flab.

That's brilliant as I didn't get a sniff of the non-lethal approach at all in the masked ball level so looking forward to replaying that. Assume I chose different conversation/options. Shows the versatility of the game perfectly.

I really enjoyed the following Tower mission also and what started out as a relatively quiet infiltration then descended into a lethal, all abilities/weapons utilised approach after a guard clocked me and legged it. In my defence no civi's were harmed so I have some morals! ;)

I did the non lethal approach for the Lord Regent and had it all sorted but as the guards were escorting him out he got ashed by one of the light gates I'd reversed earlier (I watched it happen and only remembered as he approached so nowt I could do) so that immediately turned in to lethal...oops. Chaos level was still low afterwards.

Also couldn't find the torturer for the life of me, again next time. Such a great game, another level this eve methinks. :)

I heard the conversation but was some way away. I left the target unconscious on his bed so it would have been interesting to see if the guards pick him up and carry him off to his fate.

You definitely want to go and find the torture chamber.

My non lethal approach to that level left me decidedly uneasy about what would have happened!

the 'kind' bloke basically being a completely nutter reminded me a little of the phantom of the opera!

Yes, deliciously sadistic one feels.

I was actually trying to do that level non-lethally however...

...after managing to eventually lure her down into the cellar i went to choke her out but got confused and stabbed her through the neck.:blush:

I decided to go the full hog, stabbed the waiting bunny guy and hid both their bodies in the safe in the cellar, no one was going to stumble across them there. Forever together.

That Lord Regent mission,

I sneaked in from the ledge outside, blinked my way onto the lights above the main entrance hall, upto his room and waited for him on top of his four poster double bed. When he entered his room I blinked behind him and took him out. Then hid his body on top of the four poster bed so no-one would find him.

I was ghosting that level so did it as quickly as possible, so I left after killing Lord Regent.

Hah, did the same as that seemed like the best spot for him to take a nap.

Started this last night. Looks like fun.

Quick question though - I heard that anyone you kill with stealth will disappear after a short while. Is that true as it doesn't seem to be happening for me.

That's happened to me a few times. Wait til youre on the first proper mission, the bodies definitely vanish. It seems to be a bit random though.

Finished this last night :) . Genuinely loved it all, and felt it had a decent enough end to everything.

It would be an absolute crying shame if we didn't get another game in the same world though - it's an interesting place to be, and I can see a whole load of other fun stuff that could be done.

It did feel that by the end of the game that Corvo's tale was told - end of. Which was a little bit sad really.

After getting betrayed, I found myself turning into a right killing machine though - whilst I felt honour bound to make sure most people I encountered were just knocked out, but the time the world and his wife had pissed me off I decided to kill 'em all - still in a stealthy manner, but it just needed to be done!

The game's most definitely getting another run through though - so much stuff I didn't find/do!

I felt disappointed after I'd finished. Not with the game but just how abruptly it ended.

It's probably the best revenge game since Manhunt. I started off carefully and by the end I became an indiscriminate killing machine trying to reach my target as quickly as possible. It felt awesome.

Criticisms.

The world felt empty. I know it's been hit by plague but it's a bit odd when you have more guards than civilians, and there aren't even too many of them. I kept thinking of the upcoming Assassin's Creed III with its epic battles and bustling streets. The gameplay is all there but it needs more life, more movement; it's a fairly static experience.

I was disappointed with the tall boys. In the prerelease videos they looked terrifying, but in the final game I just avoided them.

The combat is superb. I don't think any game can match this for physicality. The feeling of a crossbow bolt hitting a character is so well done. One of those to the head and you're going down. Same with the musket - firing that shook the room. It's great to have a game in which firearms and other weapons actually feel lethal and not like the peashooters we have to put up with in most games.

I think the powers are cool but stuff like possession and stop time need to last much longer in order to have some proper fun. Imagine stopping time and then rearranging stuff all around a level before pressing play again. It also should have a rewind function. Can't believe they missed that.

Blink is good but again underused. Having Blink specific assassinations would have been cool.

So I thoroughly enjoyed the world and the story which at various times reminded me of His Dark Materials, Batman Begins, V For Vendetta, Moby Dick, Dickens, Eyes Wide Shut amongst various games such as Half Life 2 and Deus Ex.

It's kind of a Sands Of Time of the stealth genre. Rough edges smoothed away and made easy and accessible. The Sky+ of the genre.

I hope we get a sequel which expands on things in every way whilst keeping the tone and atmosphere.

8/10

I got caught out with the game not recognising I had completed one of the secondary missions.

It was the Golden Cat mission; I hadn't found the non-lethal method, so I went back to a save just before I offed the first brother, then looked at the other secondary missions I had missed.

I hadn't taken my find back to Slackjaw, so I went back and did that first - the game first went through the 'you found my guys last words' cutscene, then segued immediately into the 'but maybe I can help you dispose of the brothers if you find the combination' spiel, only to immediately come up with 'Ah, you have the combination? Lovely. All set' and for the mission to be essentially over there and then (I had already freed young whatsherface).

But it hadn't marked the first quest, find out what happened to Slackjaw's man, as completed, despite running through the completion cutscene for it.

But I had essentially put everything off until the end - so, lesson is that it's worth going back to complete secondary goals as soon as you can, rather than saving them up for the end. Don't know if there's a completionist achievement that would be blocked off.

I think it would be helpful if at the end mission screen you could identify if you have completely missed sub-objectives, by leaving a blank line or something.

I finished too last night and thought the last level was a bit curtailed although the design was smashing. Maybe there was more content planned but scrapped. I made use of the architecture to

throw the unconscious body off the very top platform

but it looked as if there might have been something else intended.

Before that, I thought the concluding sections in the pub were excellent. I chose the more humane option there. I killed a lot of hostiles after the first mission but still ended up with low chaos.

Sands of Time was a masterpiece. This, not really.

Generally I agree with your points but not about "stealth". The stealth in this is mediocre at best.

So what is it you disagree with exactly that I said?

It's not the SoT of stealth games.

The lack of a day and night cycle exactly the same as that found in WoW will utterly ruin it for Talk Show Host :(

Not funny and not really. I'm enjoying it a lot. It's a really good game but it's bemusing to see how people praise its stealth when it's obvious that is mediocre. I can actually enjoy a game that has some mediocre elements, I don't have to make it amazing in my head just to feel safe and warm inside. ;)
