Can people please switch off psn/untick internet connection before complaining single player games don't work. Some games contact the server for cloud saves etc and time out or get stuck there. If you don't let it attempt to connect it'll just skip and go to the game.

where's that? in any case, how fucking difficult is it to put a fucking if statement in the code to just carry on as normal should no access be possible?

Hey guys little bit of help.

Anyone had issues signing into PSN on the PS4 with a Virgin hub?

I'm getting a "Cannot connect within the time limit NW 31456 9" when I sign in. I've made sure the ps4 has access to the router within the router settings and also tried manually setting it all up on the PS4 with no luck.

At the same time I'm unsure if it's just because of the hacking that's going on...

Is there actually a decent solution to a large DDOS attack? Does anyone have the ability to handle one?

I don't think Google could be, Amazon too probably.

The simple answer is lots of hardware in multiple locations. But there are clever countermeasures too.

I've seen a little of how DDoS protection works at Google; it's very complicated, very thorough, and does offer protection against various flavours of attack.

No idea why you're jumping in the speculation machine with that last sentence, that makes no sense at all.

I'm treading a little outside my area of expertise, as I've only passing familiarity with modern DDoS vectors or protection; but it seem to me that PSN is in some sort of phased rollout (reports here and on Twitter of some services working, some platforms working, or some accounts working while others are still offline.) I don't see how you can make a multi-service cloud platform recover from an ongoing DDoS in that sort of phased manner, is all.

Having pondered it while making lunch, though, there are some scenarios I hadn't considered. For example, perhaps Sony has implemented some tailored DDoS protection that mitigates this attack, and is rolling it out across the platform. Or maybe the DDoS has stopped but has knocked some stuff permanently offline (e.g. full disks from log files, full databases from overflowing audit trails) and it needs some manual intervention to get things back online one at a time.

Understanding DDoS is a good resource for anyone curious about what it actually is.

I was looking at getting PES 2015 in the January sale and I notice that it has (a little) more money off for PS Plus members. My PS Plus membership is due to expire soon and I'm not sure I'm going to continue it so I'm wondering if you buy a game with PS Plus discount whether that game will then expire and not be available once PS Plus expires?
