Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim

Really disappointed by that trailer, I can't help but wonder if Del Toro's run of canned projects meant he just has to grin and bear it to get this one made, really uninspiring, that glados voice is a joke.

Say what you like about Michael Bay but I keep thinking I'm not going to be fooled into another Transformers movie and then I watch his trailers and they sucker me in. This had a head start as I was excited, but now I don't really care.

We shall see.

It certainly looks cheesy as fuck but then it involves giant robots, how could it be anything but cheesy? It reminds me of Robot Jox with the whole robot control bit but the actual fights look pretty sweet.

Gipsy Danger. How can this film not be cheesy as fuck?

It actually reminded me of The Mist more than anything which was unintentionally hilarious, maybe the best I can hope for from this

Cheese doesn't bother me, I just don't see how a trailer about giant fuck off robots fighting extra-dimensional Godzilla wannabes can leave me so cold.

Zero humour and CG smeared in Vaseline for starters

The Mist unintentionally hilarious? There were a few moments with the crazy cult that were funny but the rest of it certainly wasn't. And that ending. Fuck.

Do you mean The Happening? I'm convinced that was a comedy done badly.

No I meant the Darth Vader ending, I'm v glad I never saw that in the cinema, cos I'm nice that way

You are half right about The Happening

This does look interesting, but I don't get why the mechs need 2 pilots doing synchronised dance moves, it just looks silly!

That bit is part of the plot apparently. I'm betting we find out exactly why and it won't be pretty when we do.

...also GIANT ROBOTS AND ROCKET PUNCHES, what the fuck isn't silly about the entire premise?

First test screenings have taken place and some early word is out via Twitter.

Looper director Rian Johnson saw it and had this to say:

Go into Pacific Rim prepared to be transmogrified into a 12 year old. And then to pee your pants with joy. I love it so much.

Haha you can tell it's bad just from that. Whenever anyone says that watching a film is like being a child again and mention 'fun' or 'joy' it's just that really. It's 'fun' (If you enjoy robots and explosions) but won't have any substance.

Oh and that it's out on July 12th of course.

I don't think when people were first seeing Jurassic park they were saying 'yeah, this is fun' it was more about how the CGI Was creating this next step in film visuals and how terrifying the dinosaurs are etc. It doesn't seem PR is doing anything new here and whilst I'm sure this will have a lot more brains than say Transformers it's a shame that a critically acclaimed director has gone off to make a movie that won't be critically acclaimed.

Hark at time-travelling Paul Ross here.

You said the same about The Avengers iirc, a movie that was praised by most critics, with 92% on RT.
