Let's start the madness...

Well, I suppose other people must have there's but no thread?

The madness!

Anyway, mine turned up today with a free copy of OPS2M bundled with it. No DVD though - cheap gits. All I would want from OPS2M is the DVD, but hey-ho, at least I don't need any toilet paper now.

Anyway, Edge is all about the Mainstream this month. A quick glance sees all present and correct. Read Red-eye and, well, it's just odd. Hey-ho and Poole's off on a very good thread that needs more discussion in my mind.

Seems ok, and the list for credits at the beginning hasn't changed yet either.

Ho-hum.

Castlevania: higher than I expected. From other reviews I had expected it to be a DMC lite instead of a 'genuine' Castlevania game.

Manhunt : spot on I think. Well deserved, and one of the surprise hits for me this year. Too bad it isn't selling too hot.

Final Fantasy X-2: scored way higher than the first one. What made this one better? I believe FFX scored 5/10 with the remark 'some idols aren't worth building religions around' or something in that mould.

Mario & Luigi: Nice score for a nice game ;)

Mario Party 5: Nintendo is raking in a lot of 5/10's recently. Although I suppose this game deserves it more than MK:DD.

Top Spin: Pretty good score. Did they compare it to Virtua Tennis?

CounterStrike: I presume this is about the Xbox version. No fucking way that it's any better than Rainbow Six 3 (6/10). It's a lazy, uninspired and mindless port of an ancient PC game. Sure, it's fun, but compared to Rainbow Six 3 it looks and plays like a budget title. Rainbow Six 3 is the daddy of online, teambased shooters. 8/10!

Still, nothing really controversial this month.

also, yay for In Memoriam.  Lovely, lovely game.

I'm really, really intrigued by that - indeed, I want it badly. Worth getting, then?

IMO - yes. don't let the fact that it's made in shockwave put you off - the way that it blurs fantasy and reality (kinda) with emails to your own real account is a really nice touch.

it's like Seven the game.

u gotta wait until 20th February 2004 or just go to DVDBoxOffice and get it in your paws within a week !

;)

Tempting... But with all of advanced campaign and all war room maps left in AW2 it's not like I would play it much even if I got it (or I might be tempted away from AW again, which would be even worse).

A true 'adult' game.

I wouldn't call a suffocation game adult. I'd call it disturbing.

Manhunt isn't a suffocation game.

'Adult' movies like Stir of Echoes, Nightmare on Elmstreet, Se7en and American Psycho also feature disturbing imagery. If you don't like it, watch Finding Nemo instead (which is ace BTW).

What made you think of Stir of Echoes?

The very cruel rape/breaking nail scene. Had this same 'cringe' effect on me as the first time I rammed a crowbar in someones throat in Manhunt. The movie featured some very ugly, brutal violence but wasn't any less because of it. If anything, it added to the whole atmosphere. Just like Manhunt.
