What made you think of Stir of Echoes?

The very cruel rape/breaking nail scene. Had this same 'cringe' effect on me as the first time I rammed a crowbar in someones throat in Manhunt. The movie featured some very ugly, brutal violence but wasn't any less because of it. If anything, it added to the whole atmosphere. Just like Manhunt.

Too late for me to cross it off though - it arrived yesterday, played it for the first time today, and sat there thinking "hmm, there must be more to it than this".

I couldn't remember if Edge had reviewed it already or not. I'd be interested to read the review though - the preview had seemed so promising (damn them!).

Regarding OP2M coming free - I guess it's there for the same reason Computer Arts comes with a sheet of brown cardboard - it's to stop the quality magazine getting damaged in the post :-)

just wanted to take the opportunity to say that the rape and murder of Samantha was one of the most difficult scenes that I've ever had to watch in a film. It just really got to me - it was one of those moments where I had to remind myself that it was just a movie. Maybe I'm overly sensitive (entirely possible!) but I found that scene to be both heartbreaking and infuriating. Of course, it was necessary to the plot of the film, which was a wonderful thriller, so it's not as though I didn't see the reason for it.

Did anyone else find Samantha's rape/murder particularly painful to watch, or was that just me?

Has this only just come out in the UK? I must have had the Japanese version for over a year already.

I'm not sure it deserves a 2. The main game is pants but I understand that tends to be the way with Bomberman; the multiplayer is great fun though (though not worth a full game price tag - especially not when compared to the multi-player madness of Monkey Ball).

I've never played any other Bomberman games to compare it to though.

IMO - yes. don't let the fact that it's made in shockwave put you off - the way that it blurs fantasy and reality (kinda) with emails to your own real account is a really nice touch.

Seriously, though, it's the "difficult new game" by a developer who cranked out two smash-hits, and it's something incredibly daring in terms of content. Of course it was going to get in.

Agreed, that's ridiculous. What's with the magazine focusing on the single player mode for games like Bomberman and Mario Kart, they better not have just stuffed it in a boxout. Bomberman's single player mode has always been crap, even the beautiful Saturn Bomberman.

Mario Party 5: Nintendo is raking in a lot of 5/10's recently. Although I suppose this game deserves it more than MK:DD.

Considering many rank it as the best mario party game, this is kind of shocking. I have played it, and thought it was great fun. I may even try and pick it up if i find it cheap, but i want the USA version (anyone selling it? )

I can't remember which PC magazine it was that reviewed it about a month ago but it was one of the best reviews in actualy making you excited about a piece of software I've read in a long time. He talked about arriving home everyday to find new clues in his e-mail account, getting redirected to websites and other more disturbing events. The journalist really loved the game and went as far to say as he wouldn't be suprised if he started getting letters and packages through the post after starting the investigation such was the level of immersion and inventivness.

It's published by UbiSoft as well who seem to producing a great game a month at the moment.

Well, look at Tekken Tag. It's pretty much exactly the same as Tekken 3. It's just as good mechanistically and in terms of control, but with more characters and better graphics. Edge's score for Tekken 3 - 9/10. Edge's score for Tekken Tag - 6/10.

Just saying that, with Edge, you can't expect them to accept a repackaging of the same old game.

Can I ask what Chou-jikuu Yousai Macross is? Is it anything like Robotech Battlecry? I'm hoping for something better, Robotech was good but nothing special. Ever since seeing Macross Plus I've really wanted a game that captures Veritech fighters well.

And yes Macross Plus was, sadly, my first exposure to the Robotech/Macross universe.

I suppose. But the fact remains that I can't imagine the game mechanics being that much different from, say the SNES version. At all. Should hudson be rewarded for releasing the same game every time? because I would say that it was taking the piss a bit. Another thing that has to be considered is cost- the game's one new feature, and the one that obviously the readers are going to be interested in, is the single-player mode. Which is funnily enough what Edge apparently focussed on.

It’s hard to say. If the game is good to play, regardless of how many iterations its had, should this matter? I mean, if it’s good, its good right?

At the same time I agree with what you are saying 100%.

I am just not sure if something that is great fun to play, but the only difference from its predecessor is graphics that it deserves to be slaughtered by reviews, because essentially the underlying game is great whatever.

They say there are two main modes, a simple standard bomberman and a sub standard pinball game. They say the mini games last too long as well and are too easy. A tetris style game is mentioned as is a crazy golf style thing. They don't like it. Let's leave it at that.

However, the review of Manhunt has made me seriously reconsider trying this title.

And the 5 for Dog's Life is about right. They pretty much wrote what I thought, in that there is a great, wreckless game in there that has been strait jacketed into a more family friendly game.
