This month's Redeye column would really mess someone up who was new to the magazine, they'd wouldn't know he is being hilariously (okay, 'quite funnily') ironic.

While I appreciate that RedEye was being ironic I still found it one of his worst columns to date. It was horribly patronising (I think that is the right word) the whole way through and the only redeeming feature was the last paragraph.

I thought it was a shit column. I hate that 'ironic' style of gossip column. Not even The Onion ('The Outside Scoop') does it well.

Nobody can beat Heat magazine for that kind of thing.

It's about realism, and why it's got so much appeal to non-gamers, then?

Okay, so that quote didn't really give a helpful flavour of the column. It's more about a game giving you a fun experience and how an inadequate system (he cites lack of stealth moves in Hidden & Dangerous 2 as an example) doesn't compel you to play it, rather, do something else. The title is 'Videogames? Sometimes I'd rather play chess'.

Then he's got a point.

I agree.

Bit obvious though, no?

Except to that japanese magazine geezer who used write about playing Final Fantasy Online the whole time.

I was very happy to see old Hungry Horace mentioned. It came bundled with my Speccy years ago. I always thought I was ever so clever to utilize the bug where instead of eating the fruit, you could just gently knock into it and get loads of points.

Horace goes skiing was good as well though.

The spider one scared me though.

What're the thoughts on Cold Winter? I can't help but think that by saying they'll make the game shorter and introduce things such as the level-skip-if-you-keep-failing feature, they're essentially saying they'll give us less for our money and remove the whole element of risk/reward and the whole element of what makes a game work - the challenge.

Tell me if I'm wrong, but what concerns me most is how much hot lovin' Edge was giving the developers...
