GBA <> GC linkup thingy

Tingle Tuner! Tingle Tuner! Best use ever.

Rayman 3 has some kick ass multi-player modes that use it.

Sonic Team games support it really well with downloadable games like NiGHTS and Chu Chu Rocket.

Hmm. Was quite unimpressed with the Tingle Tuner, to be honest. A novelty that was fun for a bit, but that was about it.

Ooh. Not played any Sonic stuff in ages. I'll take a look, ta.

I liked Kap'n in Animal Crossing but the link up allowed you access to another main game area there. I hated the tingle tuner because using a plain old GBA when I prefer playing games in a more dark than light room means that I couldn't really see the GBA. An SP would be better but generally speaking this link up thing was a tactic of Nintendos to incentivise GBA owners to buy the cube. even if the tactic worked with some people I bet even they don't use the feature. The GBA as a controller in FF:CC looks more important but that annoys me too for the same reasons coupled with the fact that I have only one GBA and three normal gamepads.

Pac Man Vs. is the best thing ever. As great a multiplayer game as Bomberman.

The Tingle Tuner made Zelda into a game for two, rather than one and provided myself and friends with plenty of entertainment.

The GBA link up is great when used creatively, no question. It's rather crap when it's just used a means to unlock stuff, though (Metroid Prime, I'm looking at you).

.::: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles makes 'good' use of it (although a Secret of Mana-like ringsystem would have been far better).

It's a severely underused feature though. Just like mini-games for your VMU.

No, it wouldn't work, because it pauses the screen for evryone.

After playing Sword of Mana I have went right off the ring system. Far, far too many rings makes it fiddly.

As much as I like the Kap'n, I wish I didn't have to do that 'connectivity' thing each time I wanted to go to the island. Because of it I rarely go there, and I have to refer to the manual every time. Though that could just be because I'm stupid.

.::: Yes, it would. After having completed FFCC there isn't anything as pressing you need an entire screencovering menu for. They could have just set the useable-items in one ring and the equip items in another for exmaple. The only thing the GBA is actually needed for is the map (which only one of the players gets and thus promotes verbal communication). But it's use was practically zilch to us as we just walked and 'mental mapped' like in any other mapless game.

But the rest could easily be done via the Mana ring-system.

Which they should have done as FFCC is more SOM than FF anyway.

BTW: The final boss is a bitch.

I still want it to be used as some sort of surveilance device in a FPS, ie you set up some sort of camera and you can see what's going on in that area using the GBA screen.

That's exactly the kind of thing I was thinking of. Everything I've seen has been a rubbish bolted-on extra. Your suggestion would be perfect, 'cos it adds something significant to the gameplay.

I know those without GBA would moan, but it'd be easy enough to arrange it so the function was useful rather than essential to the game.

Up to this point I've taken a look the first couple of times I've played the game, and ignored it from that point on. I want something integral.

that wont happen as the GBA's data transfer is so slow. Although rayman 3 had some great ideas, such as the GBA player having to place down a race track before the GC played flew off the end.
