That could work!! @mexos what do you reckon?  I might pick up a CSL DD if you're willing to part with the rim 😃

Yeah that could work :)

I'll need to see if I can afford another extra for one of the other rims by March. Will DM you when I've had a look at finances. I want the Porsche GT wheel but ooh it's a chunk of change.

@SharkyOB Might be worth you checking with Fanatec that the GT wheel will work on the normal DD? Lots of extra buttons on there. I'd assume they'd work but who knows?

Would the GT wheel with the standard DD work on PS? Maybe? Security chips are always in the rims aren't they? But they they went out of their way to Playstationify the base... dunno.

I'd assumed it would because Fanatec are always banging on about their 'ecosystem'.  Blowing that out of the water with a rim that doesn't work with a particular base doesn't seem like something they'd do, but I'll keep an eye on news over the next few weeks.

So, from what we've seen, the GT DD Pro is just the same as all of the other Fanatec kit, other than only being available in a bundle.

The webpage tells us it's PC and Playstation compatible out of the box, and "Xbox Ready" so needs an Xbox rim attached to work on an Xbox.  With an Xbox rim attached, it'll still work on a Playstation, as the licensing chip is in the wheelbase.

I think it's safe to say the GT wheel rim will work on a PC attached to a CSL DD wheelbase.

The rim will just be like another rim, we already know it works on a PC as it's in the imane above.  Usually you get a quick start guide that tells you what keyboard key the buttons map to, but they haven't done one of those for this yet.

It's a 100% guarantee that the GT wheel rim WILL NOT work on a Playstation attached to a CSL DD wheelbase, as the wheelbase is not Playstation compatible and that's all that matters.

I believe they've only Playstationified the selling mechanism (bundle) and design (by Polyphony).

In summary, if SharkyOB only wants to use the GT wheel on a PC and benefit from the design / plethora of buttons, then I reckon all is good.  If Playstation is even remotely a though, it's a no go.

Found the answer on this listing:

https://fanatec.com/us-en/racing-wheels-wheel-bases/racing-wheels/gran-turismo-dd-pro

Quote

The steering wheel for Gran Turismo DD Pro is compatible with:

Gran Turismo DD Pro wheel base

CSL DD

All Podium Wheel Bases

ClubSport Wheel Base V2 (without four additional D-sticks)

ClubSport Wheel Base V2.5

CSL Elite Wheel Base V1 / V1.1 (without four additional D-sticks)

CSL Elite Wheel Base +

Note: The steering wheel for Gran Turismo DD Pro does NOT enable PlayStation® compatibility when used with a non-PlayStation-licensed wheel base. A PlayStation-licensed wheel base (such as the Gran Turismo DD Pro Wheel Base) is required for use on PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®5.

So yep, the wheel will work with a CSL DD, hopefully with all the buttons etc!

Tricky to explain, but the feel is completely amazing with my Thrustmaster TS-PC.  They've changed the way tyres heat up and retain heat which is very apparent when you drive in colder or changeable conditions.  The tyres are still really drivable when cold though, so you can adapt your driving style and it's extremely satisfying to do so.

The FFB is also way more detailed in terms of track feel, at the last corner of the Nurburgring I could actually feel the exit curb pulling the car onto it which I had to slightly counter to get the car back onto the tarmac.  It's all subtle stuff but it's adds so much to the immersion and feeling of driving a car.  I was so impressed with the physics updates I completely forgot about the huge performance gains evident in VR using the newly implemented DLSS.

Watched a couple of YouTube reviews of the new DD Pro wheel all very positive but I’d be amazed if someone got sent one early for free and slagged it off.

I’ve not seen one yet that explains how the coloured control thingies work in GT Sport?

Boosted Media dude said no games support those yet. Seems like a GT7 only thing currently.

I wonder how outdated the console ACC is, as that BoostedMedia GT CSL review on the last page, the reviewer says that ACC on PS5 (well, ps5 version) feels very similar to the PC version on his CSL DD (feedback wise at least).

Isn't there a 'next gen' version of ACC due in the new year as well? I might have made that up.

I have it on PC and it's great. Could double dip if the PS5 version is good.

oooh ooh!

I already have the PS4 version that was... yeah. I also have the PC version that I played for a while when I rented a Shadow virtual PC.

It was awesome on the PC and... yeah not so on the PS4. PS5 should be not far off a good PC experience I would have thought?

It’s free upgrade to Ps5 from the PS4 version too (Though there is additional DLC you get if you buy the ps5 one or something). The PS4 version has received a lot of updates and runs at an almost solid 60 and the FFB was improved I believe, it’s out the month  before GT7 I think

If the "PS" DD will work with an Xbox (with the right rim) there's no way they'd stop the rim working with a PC base.

Also for consoles, ACC is likely the absolute best sim experience you'll get.  I prefer the older game on PC because ease of modding > Laser focused on one series but on console that obviously doesn't apply.

He’s wrong. If you go to SuperGT’s “review” at about 4mins mark he shows them working in GT Sport. As you’d expect he changes TC, BB etc up and down in accordance to the different colours. Not that exciting but maybe in GT 7 they do a bit more?

Just watched Super GTs review, he shows that in GT Sport up and down on the coloured sticks adjusts the equivalent item in the game, so up and down on the blue stick adjusts traction, red brake balance, green fuel, yellow rally car torque.

(and it turns out I haven’t refreshed this page today, and Junker already posted this 😂)

I did some modding on my OG Fanatec CSL P1 wheel for Pc/Xbox (the one with the fully rubber rim). It's not suited for the proper quick releases. It has a release, but you can hardly call it quick. It's an aluminium collar with a sort of wristwatch clip that you have to secure with an M6 bolt:

I ordered a clamp that I found at a German music store. It has a lever on it so it's essentially a quick(er) release. I added a strip of rubber band on the inside for added grip, removed the original collar and replaced it with the new clamp:

Toight as a toiger and you can barely see or feel that it's there. Swapping between it and the McLaren rim has become less of a hassle now. Don't know why they opted for the collar thing instead of a clamp like this when it was released.

This is great! Can you link me the clamp on the music store so I can try to find something similar in the UK. My P1 also has the horrible Allen key bolt thing

Would a bike saddle quick release clamp of the right diameter work?

By the way, this solution probably works better than the QR1 quick release; which isn't a quick release for me.  I got unlucky with the wheel rim lottery so my rims don't fit flush to the shaft; so I have to use the screw to get things snug (otherwise I get horrible rattling).  Bit of a bummer and the only thing annoying me about my CSL-DD.  It takes longer to change rims than it did on my old Thrustmaster.

I have looked long and hard for one with the right diameter (45mm) but without result. It seems they don't make them that big apparently. But if you manage to find one, it'd be even better (although i think it's much harder to get around the wheel's shaft).

Sure thing mate, it's this one. Make sure you order some grooved rubber sealing (with an adhesive strip) as well, as this clamp is 48mm (the shaft is 45mm). But that's actually a good thing because metal on metal wouldn't be good, and it actually prevents it from potentially sliding off.

I have the lever sitting snugly against the wheelbase (as you can see in the last pic), but I think having it stick out to the side makes it easier to release. Granted, it doesn't look as good but it does no harm that way either.

The QR1 is a proper aluminium quick release, right? Weird that it doesn't work well with your wheel rims.

This solution is pretty good, but as I said the wheel isn't really locked with it - if you pull it hard during racing it may slide off. But you'd have to pull really hard for that to happen (and who pulls on their wheel during racing anyway?)

Yeah, but it's not a great QR system which is why they're replacing it with the QR2.  If you're lucky enough to get a wheel base shaft where the rims fit snug without the screw then it's OK; but in my case it doesn't.  It's a common issue; but they say that this is just normal 'tolerances' and because they say you're always supposed to use the screw I guess they can get away with it.
