I've played NFSU for 5 times longer than i have MK:DD. :o

and i've still got the VW Golf i started with.

but PGR2 has taken over now and i'm much happier with it.

that is all.

I am in the same boat, played nfsu non stop until I got pgr2. I then put it on Ebay and got all my cash back ;). I really dont think nfsu is anywhere near as bad as people are making out. Then again I am a bit of a Boy Racer :D

I think most people on here just like to hate EA. Why i dont know. Maybe they are bitter Xbox owners?

Does it actually matter who the publisher is?

When I buy a game, the only thing thats in my mind is "I think I might enjoy this". I normally do. If I dont, its because of the game, not the publisher.

All you corporation haters should stick with playing hopscotch, by candlelight, in a cave. The rest of us will just get on with life in the 21st century.

If this game had a Sega badge on it you would all be loving it.

Oh fuck off. I hate it when people say stupid shit like that.

I bet at least half of the nay-sayers have never played the game.

"Its EA - its got to be shit" attitude just pisses me off.

In my opinion this game is miles ahead of PGR2.

That's an assumption of quality based on a developers record though. If it were a Sega game, people would possibly look at it a little more enthusiastically, but once they'd played it, Sega or not, they'd still think it was great/shit.

Double Dash had everyone looking forward to it because it's a respected franchise from a respected developer/publisher. That didn't stop a lot of people calling it rubbish once they had actually played it.

Surely that is totally irrelevant?

Surely what is irrelevant?

The Doube Dash bit is just the most recent example, the justification of my point, showing that people won't call a turd the greatest thing ever just because it has a Nintendo/Sega/Capcom/whoever sticker on it.

I am also surprised by the fact that you seem to have the attitude that if you think something is shit, it must be so for everyone else.

Not at all.

My point is simply that the fact that EA have published this is not why Beertiger et al are saying it's not that good. They have played it, and feel certain elements of the game are seriously flawed. You suggested if this was a game made by Sega, those same people would say that those same elements were perfect, and the game was a work of art etc etc. And I was just disagreeing with that.

Look at Initial D for such an example.

Another thing i dont like. You can play this game online, but only on EA offical servers. :o

And how does that negatively affect online play?

It restricts online play. And also shows why EA isnt making games for the Xbox.

Restricts how?

It restricts how you choose to play the game. You cant play via LAN, nor can you play head to head online.

How is that inherent to being played over EA servers (as opposed to just being poorly implimented)?

Because i want to play pc games online wherever i want. EA isnt allowing me to do this.

:o ??

What i mean is that i want to be able to play the game on Gamespy etc. I want to be able to host a game and invite my friends to play. I cant do this with this game.

I jokingly mock EA as much as the next man, but I'm sure I havea few EA games lying around, I don't think everything they make is awful, take SSX3 for example, that game was perfectly good. The only real gripe I have with them is their inability to take any advantage of Xbox features.

Getting back onto NFS, as I said before, if you are a bit of a boy racer and like .. cars going fast, it will keep you interested for a fair while. It looks good, uses its gimmick well and is generally fast and fairly stylish. But it is still ultimately a shallow, flawed game.

Racers are generally my thing, they far outnumber any other genre in my collection, and it's the only gametype I could be considered any sort of authority in, and as anyone seriously into racers would tell you, the handling in NFS lacks depth and technicality. It's easy to pick up sure, that's something they pulled off quite well, but anyone who invests time will find there's very, very little about the system to be mastered. Someone compared it to PGR2 so I'll do the same. Bizarre's effort is full of depth, nuances, the handling varies a lot from car to car and as a result it's a far more engaging racer. NFS survives on accessiblity, style and a gimmick, there's no substance to be found.

Yet PGR2 is mind-numbingly dull.

In my opinion of course.

Do I get the impression you're not usually a racing game fan? If you don't usually like racers PGR2 will never change your mind, whilst not trying to simulate driving as with GPL or GT or whatever, it sticks to the basics of realism. NFS is totally arcadey, it will appeal far more to casual racers, it's like Kirby's Air Ride: 2F2F Edition.

I've just been playing the pc demo online. There is just one track to race on but its quite fun. It plays pretty well with hardly any lag. You can challange someone for a head to head or play in a hosted 4 player race.

You start with 100 points to your name but you can win 25 points for finishing first in a race. Or you can lose points for finishing lower.

What relly lets the game down is there is no real time damage to the cars. It looks really poo when you are hitting top speed and hit something.

But whats the point of showing danage to the cars if the handling isn't affected.

I enjoy PGR2 but having smashed my Ferrari around the course it still goes top whack but it just looks a bit dented. Pointless.

PGR2+NFSU+CM4=greatness

yeah the damage in PGR2 is interesting. If it wasn't there i would be moaning but when it's in there it does nowt so i forget about it. odd.

just for people who want to know Toys R'Us have a huge amount of cheapo games now.

I almost bough The Fellowship of the Ring for £5 until i found out it wasn't the EA one. Even then i was tempted.
