@Harrisown Can you play it as a straight 'just do the main missions' then, and skip all the hunts and side stuff? I haven't had any desire to go back to this but if you can essentially just go through the story stuff I might give it another chance.

The late game stuff where you have to open a bunch of doors is absolute shite. I’ll have this finished in under 20 hours And 25% of that will be bullshit Designed to slow you down.

Also the story absolutely stinks.

Is this chapter 13?

I think I did the easier thing...

I ran with Gladio and Ignis and it wasn’t too bad....

Absolutely

I thought you would have to at least level up but nope it’s pretty easy.

This chapter 13 stuff is horse shit though. The combat is fun but there’s so much shit around it. I left the open world chapters and chapters ago. No idea why they spent so long making this game.

The load times are painful.

only used summon once lol

So I've been putting some time into this lately and have just finished chapter 10 and I'm at level 37. I stopped doing sidequests a while ago because they are frankly complete and utter crap.

I pretty much hate everything about it; the constant grunts, groans and angsty 'Ehhs' are incredibly annoying and sound like a bunch of 12-year olds when they first watch porn, I hate all of the characters, the world is boring and empty and the whole look of the game is a weird combination of styles that just doesn't work at all. I have no idea why I'm doing what I'm doing (and the plot hasn't given me any reason to care, either) and this just doesn't feel much like an RPG in terms of any kind of character development or skills. Which brings me onto the other thing - battles are just not fun. At all. It becomes 'run around for a bit, warp-strike, retreat, do it all again' - and the camera is atrocious. And why does Noctis often put his weapon away in the heat of battle (often after a warp-strike) and doesn't get it back out again without lots of additional tapping away at the X button?

I honestly have no idea how people enjoyed this, because I think it is a complete waste of my time and effort and I'm not enjoying it at all. One thing's for sure - whilst I had little interest in FF VIIR anyway (as I have no real love for the series), given that the combat in that riffs somewhat on this I definitely don't care to play it now.

And yet I *am* still playing this. I genuinely spend most of my playtime wanting it to be over and yet I feel I owe it to myself to finish it. That's partly because I'm now 2/3rds of the way through, but even when I was only back at chapter 3 I didn't like it. I suppose part of me wants to finish it because, for better or worse, it's a 'big' game to experience. <shrug>

Such a bizarre game.

I thought I'd give this a go seeing as how it's part of the PS Collection on PS5.

It looks lovely, that's the only good thing I can say about it.

The control and combat method is overly complicated and clunky, the characters and voice acting are just... shit. I don't understand how anyone can spend hours in a story dominated by these four buffoons.

It's also odd to see that in these enlightened times, the first female character you meet looks like she had her outfit chosen by a randy teenage boy.

Each to their own I guess but this is getting deleted.

Remember back in the old days when dialog was just text on a screen? We used to think that proper speech and voiceovers would make these games even more magical.

And then FFXV happened.

It sounds like the voices in this were done by "actors" who weren't even good enough to work on independent radio ads or the latest iteration of Spitting Image.

There is some incredibly strange design decisions going on with this. Its like instead of an JRPG or Final Fantasy game, they really wanted to make a camping/cooking game featuring a very annoying Japanese boyband as the main characters. It is total rubbish.

It's like no one ever got a grip of it and they were too afraid to turn down any idea suggested. What about fishing? Camping? Hunts? Crafting? Arcade games? Dogs? Loads of swords? Ghosts? A spin off film? A spin off game? Photo taking? Noodles?

When really they should have said, the actual core gameplay is shit let's sort that out first.

Yeah I've been playing it and I sort of like it places - I actually really enjoy the relationship between the 4 main characters but I think it helps I play subbed with Japanese voices - but the core battle mechanics while intriguing at first are ultimately just awkward and unsatisfying, falling into this odd grey zone of not being a proper third person action game but not having the depth of a more traditional JRPG system. A frustrating experience.
