That's good to hear. I've already decided to give it a go on normal using the same playstyle I had so much fun with in 1. The combat in Left Behind was already a small step up, so I assumed that it would be even better still in 2.

If you think Normal is too easy (it is fairly easy) you can switch to Hard (and back) whenever you want. Part 2 is much more dynamic, as you not only have more tools but you are more nimble and the spaces are more vast, so it's easier to shake off enemies.

That sounds great! Will start on normal and see how it goes

Losing the magic time mechanism forced them into some stuff and it doesn't hurt Before the Storm misses some of the batshittedness.

Exactly that. It's not that the characters were suddenly much better-written, just that their lives were more relatable without Cageisms. The teenage boredom of the scrapyard especially.

Why bother remaking it again?

It's a PS3 game that everyone played on PS4 and is now just given away with PS5.

I loved it, but why not just focus on something new? I can't see it making huge bucks for them as it's been done to death.

The only thing I can think of is they're doing this to tie in with the release of the TV series perhaps?

Either way, I have absolutely no desire to play it again - it's a magnificent game, but it's tale has been told and it still looks great.

To be honest, whilst I think the sequel was good it kind of answered the question as to whether or not I wanted to spend more time in the game world, and the answer was a resounding 'no'. Whilst I'm always more than happy to play the largely daft adventures of Nathan Drake, the emotional wringer you go through with the LoU games isn't something I want anymore I'm afraid.

I adore this game and replayed it last year before 2, but I can't see any point in remaking it. I'd much rather they patched Part 2 for 60fps on PS5. If the original is remade I'll still buy it, though. They've got me there.

If they are making quite radical changes to the TV plot and want to encorporate these (along with actors faces/performances etc) to make this feel like an interactive companion piece to the show then I say great. Why not? Last of Us is good enough to deserve getting an even bigger audience, and if the TV show becomes the next huge TV show (don't see why it couldn't) then this is a way to get millions more people experiencing the pinnacle of game story telling.

If they are just redoing it with super duper ray traced graphics then okay - no point at all.

Maybe Sony isn't remaking it for people who have already played it. For some people the PS5 will be their first ever console. Hard to imagine, I know.

It's not hard to imagine that the majority of PS5 owners have already got it as part of the PS+ Collection

Whilst I absolutely do not see the point on remaking this already (The PS4 remaster plays wonderfully), I’ll still fucking buy and play it like a mug due to it being in my all timers list.

I do hope it’s an external job and not something Naughty Dog are wasting their talent and time on, I’d much rather see something entirely new from them.

I don’t think they will remake it, I think someone’s got the wrong end of the stick. Either they are going to port it over to the new engine at most or they are just going to compile it for PlayStation 5 to take advantage of the SSD speed and literally just have a native ps5 version of the same thing.

I think they're probably remaking it, it's perfectly consistent with the overdone creatively hidebound remake trend so far - I mean, Life is Strange is getting remade and that is also a 2013 title.

The main difference seems to be old people moaning that it's not old enough for them to have nostalgia for - even though it's two gens difference, like most of the remakes they loved - just the "wrong" two gens.

As someone who owns all platforms, this is beyond stupid. They already released one remaster which runs at 4k/60 on PS5 and asked money for it - meanwhile, on competing platforms I'm getting free resolution and framerate boost for games I bought 3 generations ago. Now they're remaking the same damn game to sell it a third time. This was hard to swallow last generation, but now it's making them look like consumer unfriendly cunts.

What I liked most about every previous PlayStation platform, including the PS3 and the handhelds, were the innovative and quirky titles. Those cinematic blockbusters look impressive and I enjoy playing most of them, but at the end of the day they're running the risk of Ubi-fying their output - and personally I will always take games like Gravity Rush and ICO over a dozen Uncharteds and Last of Usses.

people have moaned forever about them releasing a PS4 version and shock horror asking money for it but the PS3 version does not run on a PS4 it no doubt required a lot of work.

I have no problem with that at all.

now final fantasy 7 on PS5 is a free update for me which is how it should be but Devil May Cry they charged money for , Spider-Man they charged money for and they are litterlly just upgrades for a game that already runs on the system.

I wonder if they are just going to sell both games as a PS5 package...

This is gonna be Sony's Resi 4, isn't it? :D

Perhaps they're gonna release it as a complete PS5 package, consisting of TLoU, TLoU2 and Factions. According to Schreier the remake will include the gameplay improvements (and accessibility options no doubt) of Part 2.

I played the start of part 1 again recently and (spoilers everything Part 1 and Part 2)

Spoiler

It's a shocking reminder of how rotten Joel is at the start. He has some people effect his smuggling business and so he just straight murders them all. It's just first time at that part in the game I'm used to 'game morality' that I didn't think too much of it. But with fresh eyes, the guys a monster.

So having just watched the show and really enjoyed it had a real desire to re-play the game again. Problem is no PlayStation console! :)

Handily its getting a PC release on the 28th March (funny that!) so going to pick that up!

Perhaps a little pricy at £50 for essentially a 10 year old game but TBH not played this since the PS3 in 2013 so it will feel like a new game again to me and the visuals will be a step up from the PS3 version I played all those years ago. Saves me rebuying a PlayStation console too.

It’s worth every penny IMO, absolutely phenomenal game with a massive amount of work gone into the new version.

I just really, really hope they can get it running on Steam Deck.

I recently played this through for the first time, as I felt I should play it before watching the tv series. I should say I was initially coming at this as a skeptic, as in general I am not a fan of what could be perceived as simplistic story driven games and had previously bounced off this hard twice around the Boston subway system.

Overall I enjoyed it a lot, and see why so many people love it. It was more of a game than I had been led to believe, although I felt that the gameplay itself was still a bit too simple and repetitive to engage me for the full length of the story (14 hours or so). There were a few too many similar encounters of gunfights hiding behind counters in near identical rooms - especially in the first half. By the time I got to Philly I felt I had already done my share of firefights in American cities and that section felt far too long.  I think the designers maybe knew this as after that point the location variety gets a lot better and the story kicks into gear, as if they know it needs a shift of  pace.

The story itself I would say is compelling with great characters rather than particularly deep or subtle, but it’s a real page turner that keeps you going. Overall it’s only an 8 for me as I was tiring of the gameplay from the midpoint, but your mileage may vary with that. Interestingly I thought the sequel which I played straight after had significantly improved gameplay with a lot more variety and set pieces, so ended up enjoying that more.

Yes! The opening does a terrible job of hinting at the gameplay possibilities that emerge later on, it’s such a bad beginning!
