Bye bye Game, HMV next..

Capitalism is such a bitch :)

Evolve or die, they both chose to die..no great loss anyway.

HMV is great, plenty of stock for everything and there are demo areas for consoles, tablets etc.

So, over the last few days I've had a couple of trips into my local Gamestation, coming away with quite a bit. I think we all have a mental list of titles for "when I see them dirt cheap" :) I ended up with:

Deathsmiles £5

King of Fighters XIII new, £10

Aliens Infestation £8

Nier £3

Yakuza 3 £3

Virtua Tennis 3 £2

Samurai Shodown Sen £1

House of the Dead 2&3: The Return £2

Muramasa The Demon Blade £7

Metroid Other M £5

Zelda Skyward Sword £20

As well as a PSP 3000 which looks practically new for £40, after some trade-ins.

So I ended up spending quite a bit; then again, apart from Zelda and the PSP, they were pretty much impulse-buy prices for titles that I've been meaning to buy for some time (and whilst Zelda wasn't cheap, that's a decent enough price and the copy looks new). This ought to keep me going most of the year

I was chatting to the guy at Gamestation the other day and he mentioned the "£5 extra when you trade in 2 games" thing. WSo I came home, dug out the biggest piles of TAT I could find, and went back with a bag full of games, none of which cost me more than a fiver.

Each title traded in (due to that offer) for at least what I paid, and I picked up MGSHD and ICOSOTCHD for the money.

Popped in today to check out this sale, and every title I traded in is now on the shelf for LESS than they paid me for it.

This thread really has its highs and lows. From the initial EA supply shocks, to the share prices discussion, to the dark days of the five page discussion on CEX cash floats, to the "spring clean" sale madness, and now we're in another trough about font colours. But I'm expecting more great things soon!

Just got back from my local. Went in there hoping to pick something up for non-sale prices (Mass Effect 1 and 2 on PC), but unsurprisingly they didn't have them. Ended up grabbing a few things:

Nier: 2.98

Alpha Protocol: 1.98

Aliens Infestation: 7.98

Child of Eden: 2.98 (marked as a fiver but scanned differently)

Most of the deals mentioned here were still available, the shelves were still packed and the shop was reasonably busy. There were some decent deals on stuff that I didn't want, Yakuza 3 & 4 for about a tenner spring to mind. Also, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 (PS3) for a fiver.

They also had Two Worlds 2 for Xbox (preowned) marked down to a bargainous £27.98 and the enormous Star Wars Old Republic Limited Edition for £50.

Went in Game and Gamestation today.

Got Day of Disaster and Battalion Wars 2 for £2 each. Lots of games in, but all dross or still stupidly expensive. FIFA/PES for 50p, loads of copies of old CODs and Gears for a few quid.

Tetris 3DS for £35 preowned next to it for £30 new, when it's £18 RRP. Idiots.

Did get two new games cheap though - Super Pokemon Rumble for £15 (cheapest I've seen since release is £20) and Layton 4 for £20 (£30 almost everywhere).

Virtually no hardware, new or preowned, at either shop.

Only two staff in each shop too - usually 4+ on a Saturday. They seemed subdued and barely mentioned the upselling and trade ins.

I got Dondonpatchi Deluxe for a tenner which pleased me. May grab Yayuza 4. I've been debating getting that WET game too.

Can't seem to find the ICO HD game cheap though. Still hovering around the £27 mark everywhere apart from CEX and Game and Gamestation in Croydon have sold out.

Quick trip to GS today and I managed to pick a few decent priced games:

A Boy and his Blob - £4.98

Dark Star One - £4.98

Dungeon Siege 3 - £2.98

Star Ocean - £2.98

Been after a couple of those for awhile so was a nice surprise. Was even more shocked to discover PI had £7 saved up on the loyalty card!

I made the mistake of taking my kids with me when I went back to exchange a faulty game from earlier in the week. In the end I spent 90 quid this time but we came away with probably 25 titles across 360, wii, DS and ps3. Staff as friendly as ever, plus the woman serving me was a bit of a hottie so it was all good.

I wonder if they do sell loads of preowned in this sale, maybe they'll realise that their normal prices are a bit too high and some kind of middle ground would clear out lots of stock. This sale mostly only sees their prices being competitive but the convenience factor is great.

Went into my local Game & it all appeared pretty much as normal, except for the sale stickers all over the pre-owned stuff. Picked up Advance Wars: Dark Conflict for £2 & Uncharted 2 for £8, both of which i've never played.

Not bad last purchases ever from that store, if that's what it turns out to be.

Went into GAME and Gamestation just now.

Gran Turismo 5 pre-owned - £14.98

Same title at Play.com new - £15

Laters, GAME/Gamestation.

Has stock got so low they only had one game?

None of the more expensive games have been reduced in any consequential way yet. The cheap stuff has become very cheap though.

Also, you sound like a bit of a spacker. FYI.

They were still altering stickers when I went in this morning so it could just be they hadn't got around to it.

My haul:

Warhammer: Space Marine - £1.49

VF5 - £1.49

BlazBlue CS Collectors Edition: £3.50

Pretty happy with that haul!

They also had the fable 3 collectors edition for £7. But alas, they didn't move the regular edition to a lower price.

Would have loved to find KOF-XIII for £10 though. :(

Wandered up town on lunch today and went to chat to the guys at game (I used to work with them), two members of staff from blockbusters were outside the store handing out leaflets and trying to convince people to go to BB instead.

According to a member of staff in game they were also telling people not to buy hardware as game won't be able to offer warranties so they should buy from blockbuster.

Worst thing is I know the BB staff personally too, when I said it was a dick move as the people in game (her ex co workers and friends) could possibly loose their jobs soon, she just laughed and shrugged it off, their loss for working there. Apparantly a lot of BB stores have been given orders to go and poach game customers.
