Rowan, you do realise that you could have got considerably (ie loads and loads) more if you had got them to beat CEX by a pound per trade. I made over £180 more doing that when I got my bone.

Oh, it wasn't on that scale, but cheers. I did know about the trade beating, but I anticipated a horrible struggle involving printouts and phone calls and considerable sighing. Realistically, getting shot of all the cruft should have been reward enough in itself, but I got the best part of a PS4 out of it into the bargain.

Well, everyone seems to be a jaded cynic, but I just traded in four 3DS games and got a new PC headset, a Club Nintendo code from Pokemon (for use in the 3DS promotion to get Mario Golf) and £45 Steam credit for use in the holiday sale out of it, which I thought was a great deal.

Anyway eventually he resigns himself to his fate because he's arranged a PS4 night with his friends. So he's buying the Knack set and a separate copy of BF4. He shoots for the moon: can he swap the copy of Knack for a copy of BF4? No, obviously not - but, says the man at the desk, you could trade it in against a copy of BF4. Suddenly there's hope for our hero. Okay, great, I'll do that please. Q: How much do I get? A: £14. At this point he gestures to the display next to the till. "You're selling it for £54!" But he knows it's no use and he finally accepts his fate.

He got totally ripped as I did precisely this on release day as I didnt preorder and all I could get was Knackpack (from argos)... I promptly traded it in at Game and got 28 quid towards Killzone (Frying pan -> Fire)

Oh yeah, I felt quite sure he'd been promised the Battlefield set when he preordered, too. They were telling him he'd get that in a couple of weeks most likely, or he could have the Knack set now. They definitely offered him £14, it was a comedy gold moment and cheered me up no end. But they did come back with the figure straight away, rather than scanning it to check. It was bad service from start to finish, but in mitigation it was the tail end of a new console release day, so probably no fun for anyone.

So here's my Game story. Wandered through this lunchtime to see they're offering a PS4 bundle of GTA 5, Last of Us download, COD: AW and Driveclub for £349 which, to be fair to them, is a pretty good deal. Good enough to tip me over the edge to impulse buy one at any rate. I've no interest in COD so thought I'd trade that in straight away against a couple of other titles I picked up off the shelf.

Get to the till and state I'd like the bundle they're offering and explain I'd like to trade COD against the other couple of games I have. "Can't do that in one transaction," says till boy. Fine, I'll pay for the bundle, get a receipt, then we'll do the trade in.

"No," he says pointing up to the ceiling, "there are cameras." There are indeed cameras but I don't see how that impacts...

"It's dodgy, I won't do it." Said accusingly, like, you're dodgy.

I stare for a second, hand over the two games I'd picked up and left. I still have my £349 plus whatever extra there was on top, they don't

Riveting story.

Why is it dodgy?

Did you wink at him in a weird kind of way or something?

Email that to head office, name the store, job done.

I've done that, just to see the response more than anything else.

I did have my nob out, like always, but I don't think that influenced anything.

Good, hes right he cant do it in one transaction but once the games yours you're just handing it back. You could do this in almost any Game without much fuss, i suspect maybe he was either a temp or just an idiot, insulting you outright is a disgrace.

You might get some vouchers for this, and that store will get an email to the area manager advising they are not impressed, and he wont be either. Your best bet would be to do this, and then just hand back AW (on a new transaction) with the cex trade price on your phone and you;ll get about 29 quid trade:

You used to be able to to it in the same transaction but so many stores fiddled bundle offers with this it was stopped! It was always dodgy to do it straight after as well, best to use another till or store if there is one in the town.

I understand not letting you use the trade in price of a game against the same bundle you haven't even bought yet, but the second you've bought it why on earth would you not want the guy to trade it in?

Sounds like the policy was put in place to stop dodgy bundles, bundles created by dodgy managers/stores. There has to be wiggle room or else you will just put regular customers off. 1 transaction you buy the bundle, transaction 2 the customer can do whatever they like with their products.

It sounds like a major customer service failure, penalising customers for a policy brought in to stop the corrupt employees.

You cant tell customers theyre dodgy though, theres something about game shops that instantly turns half the staff into cunts. The till transaction thing is fine but once the item is yours its yours, so you sell the bundle, and then 2nd transaction is a trade for credit. When I asked about the xbone bundles the other day, this oyk just looked at me like I was stupid for expecting the deals listed on their website to be available in store. Argos dont fucking advertise like that, Asda dont, no one does. Game just do not have a clue how to run a business, they never have. They think theyre above the law, they want to pretend theyre an edgy shop staffed by gamers, and they can ignore basic service levels.

Oh ok, I guess thats that then. But yeah I cant see their mobile/ipad business keeping them afloat when everythings digital.

Speaking of stupid shops, I ordered 23 games from CEX in one single transaction online and theyve sent them individually.
