All Game stores are opening for Black Friday starting 8pm/9pm on Thursday night and staying open until 2am. Stores are meant to close at 5.30pm in preperation, so those that stay open longer usually won't be.

Looks like there might be a deal on PS4 pads, a manager I know has aaid they have had masses of them sent in

Can see it now...

"50% OFF ALL PS4 CONTROLLERS...THEY'RE NOW REGULAR PRICE..."

i visited a game the other week and saw the first guy that had ever taken me on, 15 years ago when i first decided i better get a job. he was a decent guy then and he still was when i spoke to him, probably on a reasonable wage after 20 years with them in management. it shows the ceiling in place there, you dont go beyond manager unless youre somehow headhunted to be an area manager, but thats a shit job for absolute tossers anyway.

but yeah this guy was still amusing, totally laid back, he was selling someone a ps4 before i said hello, using the same actual human approach i used to. they looked at the bundle board all confused and he just said with no pressure, yep, you either take it with fifa, or theres a fifa and cod one there, or this one. no harassment, let them pick, when they had decided he just went yep, i'll just grab you one. because the world wont end if you dont sell a console, so people respond to it. basic psychology, and the best way to treat people. but yeah he still runs a pretty good store, and the sales people were nice and calm too (although they did the work, he was in charge, that much was clear, but then hes paid to keep the place in profit, not gut boxes). so yeah, good ones exist still it seems. rather amusingly too, a manager who i'd worked for who was a bit of a dick, i found out their store had been closed and she accepted a double demotion to remain there. 20 years with game, own store, now a full time sales clerk. karmas a bitch eh.

and if DJSATANSFURY reads this, yes im talking about our old manager, and your manager on your 2nd spell.

Livid with GAME at the moment. Had a large order of amiibo pre-ordered. They cancelled it because they said the card failed. Yet, they've taken multiple payments since then, again and again, for the cancelled order. Twice I've been promised no more payments would go out. Yet it still happens. Literally just helping themselves to my cash for a bit. Takes ages to get a response from them too via live chat or in the phone. After charging me hundreds of pounds for Mario Maker, you'd think they would be more careful.

You would think that after the Mario Maker debacle, you would be more careful as well.

With respect to Istanbul, it is not unreasonable to expect a retailer to take the correct amount of money. In fact it is pretty much the one thing that everybody expects to be right 100% of the time.

Bit of a stupid comment really isn't it? It's not something you'd expect to happen again. Reasonable to assume it was a one off. So, me being more careful? No not really. But whatever floats your boat.

I have nearly £20 in points and a £10 gift card, so yes, I do.

And if you think I'm a fool for expecting a company such as GAME to charge me only for the products I order, then that about sums up this attitude you've got.

Well I clearly touched a nerve there and am sorry for any offence caused. But really. Chill out.

My point is that you have been overcharged before by Game, a company which this year has cancelled pre-orders and overcharged people for their orders of Mario Maker (with large refunds taking up to half a week to arrive) and Fallout 4. At this point people really should be asking why they continue to buy from this company, when there are many other more reliable retailers available.

I'm just saying that customers, yourself included, should be looking elsewhere when let down by a company like this. Otherwise, where is the incentive for Game to actually stop charging you multiple times for a single product? I've had companies screw up orders in the past, and I simply avoid those companies now. There are plenty of alternatives out there for almost any product you might want to buy, especially videogames.

Ordered 2 items worth £73 at the end of october that went awol in the post.

Contacted them Nov 10th and they asked if I wanted refund or replacement. I still wanted items so asked for replacement.

November 18th they sent me an email asking if i still wanted replacements as no one at there end had requested them for me (!?)

Yesterday then sent me an email asking if I wanted a refund or replacement again...

Asked for a refund as if I'd have done that in the fooking first place I could've re-ordered my items and had them about 2 weeks ago

Still waiting for a response ....

Went to trade in Tomb Raider at GAME, expecting a 2 minute transaction which turned into a 30 minute trek between stores and still not trading it, but i learnt some interesting things.

For disclosure i've worked at GAME in the past so have an understanding of how some things there work. Funny thing is the tills are still running on Windows 2000 and are identical to how they were 15 years ago, only with frankenstein bits bolted on that make the system totally unstable.

Anyways i couldn't trade in at the first store as they had no gift cards, in fact no stores had gift cards. It's been discussed in here how one store last month ordered all of the stock and that is still the problem. I learnt that whilst they have been getting a few in the reason everywhere is out of stock besides black friday seeing a surge of gift card purchases is because most of the cards are still in Scotland. The system GAME use can not just reverse the order, instead each card has to be scanned by hand and then allocated to an individual store. Which is why it's taking weeks for them to distribute the cards. Its got so bad they've got senior staff driving around in vans hand deliving the cards.

They then asked if i had the GAME app to put it on there. I've never used the app for storing cash, don't really trust it and the GAME wallet used to be stupidly restrictive on what you could use it on. First store it wouldn't add it to my card and they had no idea why. 2nd store were more clued up and said i need to activate the wallet, despite already having the app and would need to login to a social media account to do it. I don't link my social media to anything and with 2FA on every account it makes login in through the app a massive pain of switiching to get passwords and activation codes etc. If you don't use social media, you can't use it at all. It won't even accept a standard email and password combo like the website.

I spoke to the manager in the end, as i didn't want to deal with this and wanted my comments to filter back up the company. He told me he's had tonnes of the same feedback and someone else in the store told me that basically any head office staff who dont work in the stores instantly lose sight of what goes on in the store, which basically means any complaints or issues just do not get dealt with. The manager said he's passed on loads of feedback in the past but obviously it doesnt get dealt with as it still happens.

This is GAME's problem and ultimately its downfall. They are still running like it's 1999 and are after short term profits probably knowing they are not long for this world, when top service could help them last even longer.

One important note though, GAME wallet can go down. If the server isn't working (and it sounds like this happens sometimes) it means all your credit is locked away and can't be used, even if you have a physical reward card. So just a warning.

It's a shame, i've always liked GAME despite its issues and will be sad when it disappears one day but it'll be their own fault, not listening to customers and having massive stupid issues they don't fix.

Their app is a bit clunky anyway, has loads of links which just open browser tabs. You would think they would put a proper app version of their site in there to make it worthwhile.

Yes, but then they'd have to pay Apple a cut. The PlayStation app does the same thing

The tills run on Windows XP

I think the comments sum up much of my life at Game; head office did not give a shit what happened in-store and never really took feedback on board. Even customer complaints were dealt with differently since they are faceless over the phone or live chat with customers.
