sladie
Just watched The Guest. Most exciting film I've seen in a while. They really don't make them like they used to... Great soundtrack too. Just watched The Guest on this recommendation. Thought it was awesome, and will be listening to the soundtrack at work tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up. schmojo
I watched The Guest at the weekend, off the back of almost universal online praise. Everything that I've read seemed to suggest that it was an well constructed, quality film. It's not, it's enjoyable garbage. I like Adam Wingard, but this was just thrown at the screen, and the plot was last-minute set dressing. Super dumb, but there are many less fun ways to spend 90 mins. Worth it for Lance Reddick's outrageous gurns, and the bit where you go: "It's that guy from Downton Abbey?!". Also, as Sladie mentioned, the Carpenter-esque soundtrack is decent too. Monkeyboy
I'd never say The Guest is a quality film as such. It knows what it is. A piece of pulp trash. But it's an excellent piece of pulp trash.
Benny
Yeah I think it knows exactly what it was doing and pretty much achieved what it set out to be: an 80s inspired, dumb and violent action thriller.

NEG
Noticed Only Fools & Horses is now on Netflix, are they the silly censored versions BBC has been trying to sell forever? I should look into why non-censored never seems to be coming, actually. (for DVD/Blu)

Guest
What was censored from Only Fools and Horses? Trigger usually had his nob hanging out of his flies in the original airings, BBC censored this in the more recent repeats. Bastards.

dfq23
What was censored from Only Fools and Horses? All instances of Del getting French wrong, talking about his mother's last words, calling Rodney a plonker and Trigger calling Rodney Dave. Censored episodes are therefore now just 4 minutes long..... God I hate OFAH!
NEG
What was censored from Only Fools and Horses? Edited, rather, though I see that as the same thing. Quick google: http://www.ofah.net/blog/bbc-gets-complaints-from-fools-fans/ Looking at the comments, up to 16 minutes of particular episodes are gone. a response from the 2011 set: The bleeping or removal of swear words would have been done, at the time, to ensure BBFC certification remained at a level to ensure the DVD’s were available to largest audience possible. Music deletes would have been done, at the time, due to clearance issues with the record companies i.e. either refusing 2E permission to release the specific track on VHS or simply requiring too much money for the right to do so. This situation has greatly improved with the new BBC PPL agreement which means we are able to release more current programming without any edits at all. Unfortunately to go back to the original TX versions of each and every episode – to re-clear and then to incur new costs to encode, re-subtitle, resubmit for BBFC, re-author, re-DLT and replicate new stock (making existing stock redundant) is simply not cost effective. I’m sure you understand that our contracts with various suppliers who provide the services mentioned above, that their charges are highly confidential and I am therefore unable to share with you what it would cost 2E to basically destroy stock and start again. Jonnysaxc
This recommendation is v v late, but I have just watched the documentary on UK called Bobby Fischer vs the world. It was fantastic documentary for me, gave me a great insight into a subject I knew nothing about and like all great documentaries its multi-layered, exciting and poignant. If you love chess, watch it. If you really really don't care about chess, watch it anyway I give it Knight to Bishop 5 out of 5

Nathan Wind
Just a week or two ago was telling my wife about a film I saw and loved as a kid which was a sci-if/zombie film about a comet passing earth and everyone turning into a little pile of red dust save for a few survivors and a few zombie freaks. She didn't believe it existed and I couldn't remember anything more about it, then lo and behold, there it was tonight in the "Recently Added" bit. Night of the Comet. Cool story, bro! So we watched it, and it's pretty good. Check it out if you like some fun 80s B-movie sci-if hokum. The acting is pretty good for this sort of thing. Doesn't take itself too seriously and there are some surprisingly well composed shots throughout, although it does have a tendency to look a bit like Darkplace in some of the city-scapes.
