It’s doing my nut in just how good Fullmetal Alchemist is turning out to be. I was 24 eps in, loving it and thinking ‘this must be near the end’, then

Hughes was killed :(

and now it’s really gone up a gear (I’m on ep 33)…human experimentation, internal factional military conspiracies, genocide, the individual vs the state vs organised religion, cute cats and dogs - this show has got it all. It really couldn’t be more up my street if it tried.

Can I just start watching this or is it like Neon Genesis Evangelion which going by the recent thread seems to be more of a degree course than an entertainment show?

Fullmetal Alchemist (Brotherhood, the 2009 series) is an anime series that I’ve recommended to non-fans of anime and they’ve liked it and gotten addicted. That’s some accolade. Evangelion OTOH is something I’d never recommend to anyone unless they were known anime fans or toleraters.

Benny is of course being silly, it is only a fraction as good as Evangelion. But as Evangelion is in such different league to everything else that’s irrelevant, FMA is still amazing.

It’s certainly much more accessible. What it does share with Eva though is it draws the kiddies in with a fairly light-hearted romp through its magical world, before changing direction completely and becoming all about how horrible humans are, and if you are a good one you can expect a life filled with tragedy. Except you aren’t really a good one, you just think you are because really you are one of the worst.

Untold - Crime and Penalties.

Bonkers documentary, this Untold series is awesome.

!

I'm watching this now and it's incredible.

Sopranos meets Slapshot with a bit of ECW thrown in.

Its an amazing story and just really comprehensive it terms of talking heads and footage.

If you're in to murder porn (aka true crime documentaries) then don't bother with The Investigator. What a load of shite. In the second series he completely forgets what he's meant to be investigating and starts looking into something else entirely.

Second season of Belgian show Into the Night came out recently, though I'm only starting on it now. And I noticed there's a Turkish spin-off also coming. Set on a submarine, running concurrently with this, named Into the Deep.

Tried to watch Kate. As good as the lead is, it's just all so dull. I can't muster up the enthusiasm to watch it.

Did watch 1922. It was alright. A bit long and tedious, and lacking in any real creeping dread at all, but well acted. Bordered on comical at times.

Sex Education 3: a little less good than Season 2, which was a little less good than Season 1.

This is a fair assessment IMO , lots of good moments in season 3 but not great episodes and there's a decline in overall quality

Second series of Love On The Spectrum is out. Think The Undateables but actually really good.

Watching this is an absolute rollercoaster of emotion. Especially as a pretty newly diagnosed autistic person. I could write a fucking dissertation on this show I swear.

It’s enrapturing to watch the human brain in some of its simplest forms almost. And the fluctuation between logic and social pressure is intense.

I proper, proper felt for the cosplay girl when she asked for a break from the camera man. You could see how hard she masks and how socially relatable she is in comparison to say, Michael. So I knew she’d burnt out. And then she comes back to say she’s had a panic attack. I physically hurt for her.

One thing I find really interesting is how strong Mark is at masking. Women, I think, outweigh men when it comes to that. But that’s very clearly how he is autistic. He’s very bent by the desire to be socially acceptable. In the first series you could see him literally run through his “lines”, and then freeze when he was required to be spontaneous. I think I remember he was chaperoned by his father in the first series?

My partner was a bit surprised to see Michael driving in the episode we watched last night. But I said I didn’t think he had a any sort of learning disability or delay at all.
I said he is how I should be. If I acted like Michael and did not waste the energy on masking, I would not burn out. I would not struggle so much. He is what I think a lot of people refer to as a “functioning” autistic. He is just himself without the pressure to be anything else. It looks like a good place to be a lot of the time.

New season of Movies That Made Us coming on 12 October. Looks like it's expanding from 4 to 8 episodes, with Aliens, Robocop, Halloween, Coming to America, Friday the 13th, Elf, A Nightmare on Elm Street and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Thats very exciting news! But Elf and The Nightmare Before Christmas we’re part of the shorter Holiday Movies that Made Us series, so that’s a bit weird.

I hope the American narrator is back. He is a much more natural fit, and has better comic timing.

Since I've got a bit of a gap to fill in my schedule, I've finally made a start on Breaking Bad (yes, like 10ish years later).

Took me until about the end of the first episode before saying 'hang on.....that's Todd Chavez from Bojack'.

Now, in some circumstances this can be really jarring, but so far given the kind of idiotic scheming, planning, and firefighting that goes on with both characters I'm getting a lot of entertainment out of it! :D

Anyone else have an LG TV and finding that when they come back to Netflix after being put on standby, it has crashed?

Won’t respond, but other apps on the TV all work fine with Netflix just hung in the background. Have to inplug the TV to get it working again.
