Assetto Corsa

This game also has native Oculus Rift support which gives a good idea of what to expect when the consumer version launches. Although the tracks 'white-out' for me on the rift when the sun shines on them. I'll need to try to lower the brightness to see if that fixes it.

I think there was a bug fix recently, but there was definitely a problem Nov-Dec time. The only issue I'm getting is the brightness of the track (and of course the fact that the dev kit resolution isn't really suitable for racing because you can't 'see' far enough).

Here's a 17 car race at Monza with zondas - followed by a replay.

The AI is starting to work really well and the window effect is lovely - the best in the genre right now.

Lighting isn't quite pCARS and doesn't have the same details (SMS have modelled under the bridge) but it feels very solid and stable.

If you have a PC and want to learn to drive fast you won't go far wrong here. A cracking game.

Had a go at some races today. I'm rubbish!

This is definitely gonna have to have some time invested. I reckon using a steering wheel would make it a bit easier though.

Didn't realise how much wheels cost. I had a cheap one years ago but I'm very tempted to get a G27 for just over £200.

That is great news. I may have this wrong but wasn't the ring is going to be some additional DLC? Or will it be part of the main game?

No as far as I understand it. It's a community driven thing and the developers will build what the most popular things the community want and it gets released! When you buy this you are essentially giving money to the devs to do more things! :)

This is the full "green hell" 'ring not the new GP circuit (which is already in).

Just been driving that F40 around Monza today and that car is a beast! Another thing about this game Is I actually like driving in cockpit view mode it just seems to work better than on other drivers I have played before.

Really like the fact that this is a constantly developing project some new surprises all the time.

My laps this far have been fairly atrocious but I'm enjoying the experience which is the main! Wheel is awesome too with this even though it's just a driving force pro (GT4) wheel makes a huge difference over a pad which I have tried and couldn't get on with!

G27 is a great bit of kit I have been told! Picked up my Logitech GT4 wheel back when GT4 was released and it has been a great wheel both on PS2/3 and on the PC too. Force feedback is great and it has 900 degree rotation (when you need it!) to make things feel a bit more realistic.

Shame Logitech have stopped making wheels really. They were the best wheels for the money IMHO without having to spend serious amounts to get a decent experience.

Have a look at the Logitech GT5 wheel (one with red disk in the wheel) not a bad wheel for the money essentially it's the GT4/Driving force pro wheel with an additional control (the red disk control) to quickly select different setup or a driving force pro / GT4 wheel if you can find one although they are getting on a bit now!

Yeah kinda interested in this game due to the oculus rift support, although apparently it's broken but a 3rd party mod fixes it.

However, i have also been told you really need a steering wheel for the game so im going to hold out for a bit as after a costly rift, i don't think i can splash out on another gadget so soon after!

Does grid autosport work at all on the rift?

Yep that's it! Nice wheel for the money certainly makes the experience much more immersive. Just download the drivers for "Driving Force Pro" from logitechs website on the PC and away you go. Of course if you have a PS3/4 you'll have that covered too!

That is the same steering wheel that I have used since GT5 came out. edit: remember to get yourself a wheel stand pro to go with it - expensive but totally worth it.

I've not touched Assetto Corsa yet, impatiently waiting on my DK2 arriving. Tried it for a while on the DK1 (before I sold it) but you really couldn't see too much. Fingers crossed for a better experience next month.

Glad its the full ring - loved driving that in GT5 and can't wait to try it in VR.

Yep, I've commented on it elsewhere but the pedals are slightly cheap, the shifter paddles are tiny (there are 3rd party kits to fix) but otherwise mine is half a decade old and excellent.

Yeah pedals aren't great but not bad given the price the brake pedal has more resistance to it than the throttle as you'd expect.

Think people have replaced them with others though just unplug them from the wheel and plug in some other USB ones. Not done this myself but not a massively hardcore racer... Yet. Looks at the G27.... Maybe at some point.....

Absolutely.

For the price it's a huge bargain really, it'll be "Good enough" for just about everyone.

Are we still talking about the Driving Force GT?

At £85 it's extremely tempting and, due to me not using a wheel since the PS1 days, it'd probably feel superb.

Is it easy enough to set up with Windows 8 (plug and play) and with AC? Looks like just the G25/27 and Thrustmaster have profiles already set up.

Cool. Think I'll just get one. It's my birthday this week and the Mrs has agreed I can get one.

I've got loads of other driving games too which it'll no doubt work with (F1 2013, Euro Truck Sim 2, Spintires and loads of SimBin games).

My local Argos has one in stock so might as well get it while I can.

Edit - reserved for collection
