Nintendo Go Backward

Backward Compatibility For Sequel

If true then I guess it's a good thing so there aren't yet more consoles cluttering up underneath the TV just to play older games. However if it is the case would they be keeping the same disc format and thus not having DVD playback in their new console as well? Not that I care about it but some of the console-buying public seem to.

Still, lets hope they have a wee bit more online plans and make it look just as dinky and cute as the GameCube, of course.

Great news. I've had my faith in Nintendo restored with Gamecube. New installments of my favourite games, beautiful play areas, and that magic I've come to expect.

I've now got tons more NGC than PS2 games, despite owning the PS2 for a year more. It's just had such fantastic quality software in the past 12 months. Resident Evil Series, Metroid Prime, F-Zero GX, Viewtiful Joe, Zelda:TWW, Metal Gear Twin Snakes, Monkey Ball, the list goes on.

My PS2 has been miserable by comparison. Hence why I haven't bought a game for it since Rez, in 2002.

I'll be queueing for a Gamecube 2 come launch day.

I'm also sure it'll take DVD sized discs like the Panasonic Q.

Seeing as Nintendo are still barely learning anything (release everything at Christmas, tell everyone what they want, and so forth) now, being in the same rut as the SNES, I may miss out on that console. If it isn't blaggable for £80 first hand with 'some stuff'.

When most of us look back, we feel the SNES was a far better console than the MD. I'm sure we'll think the same (I already do) with Gamecube when compared to the PS2 for example.

Nintendo need to learn to release all titles simultaneously, world wide. They also need to introduce some new franchises, and embrace widescreen, and online functionality (even if just to post scores etc) more in their 1st party efforts.

If they do that, they'll have a hit on their hands with GC2.

if you compare the release dates for this years games you'll see that nintendo IS releasing games almost simultaneously and even before the US rease dates in some instances.

Zelda

F-Zero

Viewtiful Joe

Super Monkey Ball

Metroid Prime

Off the top of my head, 5 of the 'cube's top five games. ALL released a good while after Japan/America.

When you say 'is', they've only got a week left 'til the end of the year!

I will certainly raise the bar for the next generation of Nintendo franchises seeing as they will have to compete with their immediate prequels being available at budget prices. Zelda will have Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask & The Wind Waker to go up against.

How about Mario Kart, Star Wars Rebel Strike, Mario Party 5, Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition, 1080 Avalanche, Mario & Luigi, and Super Mario Bros 3? OK, they're not all GameCube games, but they've all had practically simultaneous releases.

I still think they need to branch out a bit where games are concerned. When Sega released the Mega Drive, they'd harp on about all the sports games and beat em ups etc that Nintendo didnt have. Sega make games for all ages, kiddy, violent, adventure, shoot em up etc. Nintendo do racing and platform, they need to branch out into games which dont have an IP but can fit into a genre, they need to make the beat em ups and the crazy taxis and first person shooters.

Yeah if they had released the Q at the start, i think the GCs image would have been a lot better. Well, just as long as they hadnt of charged a stupidly hi price.

I probably will buy their next console, but whether or not they have decent launch games - will come into question of whether to buy it straight away or wait.

I too have a PS2, and have easily double the amount of GC games for my cube.

I'd be surprised if Nintendo went backwards compatible. You know how they like to release the same game over and over again. It just wouldn't be the Nintendo way.

Every new update of the Game Boy has been backward compatible.

Yeah. Well... there you go then. That's my point proven. PROVEN, I tell you.

I would like to see Nintendo Gamecube 2

look like a proper DVD player when you can play games on it

I want to see

All games support 16:9 mode and DD5.1 / PL II

Use wavebird controller and hard disk

Use ethernet connection as standard

Have port to plug in Gameboy, N64 and Snes games in the hidden area :(

Also scrap region coding as standard and all games now support NTSC 16:9 Progressive Scan 60 HZ games as default :D

Also support DVD as standard without region coding restriction and remote control to come free with an option to switch on the game via remote control :)

well i hope this is true. i have more games for the cube than any other console i have ever owned. it really is the best machine ever. if the new one has backwards compatability and a DECENT Dvd player, i will be pleased to say the least. i always wanted an panasonic cube but could never afford the import costs, if only nintendo would make it easier!

Nintendo do racing and platform

I wouldn't say Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Cubivores, Luigis Mansion, Smash Brothers, Pacman VS, Zelda and others fit in to "platforming and racing". However, Sega did do more genres, but this often seemed pointless when they kept coming out with those horrible football games and that dodgy first-person-shooter AM2 released. Sometimes you should stick to the things you're good at.

They'd better have DVD and Tivo/Sky+ functionality built into the box or they can fuck right off.

Yeah, and put in access to newsgroups and IRC so I can download the games straight to the console without me having to pay for them or they can fuck themselves.

WINK
