Woah, nice seeing these lists. I'm gonna jot down anything I haven't seen :D

I'll try and keep my list short and stick to films that I've seen relatively recently and loomed large.

I love Ari Aster and the more psychological stuff. The Invitation, The VVitch, Apostle, The Nightingale and Sinister and some of my faves.

Yeah, I think this is me, his films were standouts. I'll check those others out!

I've just started getting really into horror. Recently I've really enjoyed Hereditary, Midsommar, Mandy, Beyond the Black Rainbow. Can anyone suggest their favourite films from the last 20 years or so I can add to my list of films to watch?

The Brood is on free on Prime, it’s an excellent psychological / creepy horror from Cronenberg that does everything right. Can’t imagine you wouldn’t like it based on those you listed.

MUBI are doing a watch along of 2021 Brit horror flick Censor tomorrow evening at 7PM, has anyone seen that?

Empire magazine just released a list of their top 50 horror films of the 21st century. That's probably a good place to add some titles to your list. It doesn't have Malignant (Film of The Year 2021) though so bare that in mind.

Number 1 is lol

The whole list is.

The Witch is better than anything else in the top ten obviously, but 28 Days Later at number 2?! Drag Me To Hell at number 8?!?!

I can’t tell if this is a reflection on how bad Empire is, or how bad horror films usually are these days.

Yeah, Censor is good. Nice nostalgia vibe if you remember the video-nasty era, loses it's way a little near the end but is worth watching.

I wished I enjoyed that more, but it was along the same time as Saint Maud, and Relic which I preferred but all share the same trope which has become popular in the last few years in horror.

I haven’t watched tonnes of horror over the past 20 years, but I don’t begrudge Get Out being at No1. It was fantastic.

And the final scene where

Spoiler

he’d finally escaped, and then the cop car shows up and he’s covered in blood, and you see the terror in his eyes

just gave an extra layer of tension, and was very smart. I was gripped throughout.

I thought it was a shame not to see the remake of Woman in Black on that list. I bloody love a good ghost story, and this was really chilling. Also felt like a lovely revival of Hammer, too.

Good catch, that TV movie is stupidly good. I watched it only last month because of nostalgia alongside Whistle and I'll come to You

If The VVitch is your sort of thing, definitely check out Midsommar, The Babadook, It Follows, His House and Under The Skin.

And they're older, but also check out Don't Look Now, Rosemary's Baby, The Changeling and the original Poltergeist.
