Yeah it's hard to accept a few punches is enough to deter a parent from doing everything to prevent their child being harmed. Would pain even mean anything in that situation? You're mustering all your will to do everything right? I believe people when they say 'I'd die for my kids'. Bjorn was defeated and accepting as soon as he got into the car with Patrick.

He said he wanted to be wild previously and even had the gall to say to Patrick 'spend time with people I don’t even like', he showed more guts there than when it mattered.

I dislike the alternative ending cult idea as well. Just takes it into fantasy.

Honestly like the film less and less the more I think about it. I don’t think it earned any of its conclusion.

Watched Speak no Evil.

Well made and shot with some cracking performances. But....so much about that ending annoys me.

Spoiler

I get the dad is a bit of a sap. But any father would go fucking berserk and fight with everything. Then again, maybe some wouldn't. Which makes it even more depressing.

Also I seriously thought...

Spoiler

When he entered the attic and the photo revelation, I thought the baddies were involved in a child porn ring and that's how they make money. In fact part of me thinks that was the idea but got cut because the ending was grim enough. Surely the owners of the holiday villa would be in on it and be part of it.

Whilst Smile looks interesting, after watching the trailer isn't it just The Ring?

Feels like Netflix are missing a trick by not releasing the new Wednesday Adams show for Halloween.

My Best Friends Exorcism

It was OK, I remember reading the book a while back and really enjoying it. This though should have been a mini series instead, a lot of what made the book great was cut out and what made it special.  This was just meh, it made me want to watch Jennifer's Body again.

Just looked this up and I’ve no idea if I’ve seen the first three. I feel like I must have but I’m not sure if I’m mixing it up with the Poughkeepsie Tapes.

I enjoy the V/H/S movies, sure it progressively gets worst and worst but I'm a sucker for anthologies. Poughkeepsie Tapes though is on another level.

Deadstream [2022] Shudder

Comedy-horror mashup, cancelled streamer tries to revive his career by livestreaming from America's Most Haunted House.

Clearly low budget.

Really well done send up of annoying Youtube/Twitch cunts interspersed with decent, silly, fun horror nonsense. A little overlong even at 90 minutes, could prob chop off 10/15 minutes. Surprisingly enjoyable however and glad I watched it.

3/5

Yeah, I enjoyed Deadstream. Pretty effective for a low budget with some good set-ups and a couple of nervous laughs. Well worth a look, especially given found footage is so tired but the makers made the film feel reasonably fresh.

A lot of great reviews, though. Do you think the first is worth watching before watching the second? Seems to be pretty widely panned.

I say watch the first one, it give you a taster of what the character is like unless you watched hi from the anthology.
