Dirty cheating playa

I just lost to some guy who was (ab)using a glitch in the game. He was pretty shit, but had this return he hit on my serves whereby the ball hit the top of the net and just trickled over every fucking time. It was so frustrating, and entirely un-counterable as far as I could make out.

Anyone else experienced this online?

Yeah, it's cheap but it can be countered. Just use slice serves to take 'em wide, then hold in the safe shot and run to net. They'll usually try and lob, so once you hit the return, run back and hold in any shot.

Beating poor players who abuse the drop shot return feels very satisfying

How can this game rival VT2 is a wonder to me.

It can't. It's only the confused who would suggest otherwise.

I'm not confused. I've played obscene amounts of boh games and I genuinely prefer Top Spin. It's a little arrogant to say anyone who doesn't agree with you is confused.

Besides, do we need another Top Spin Vs Virtua Tennis Debate? We only just finished the last one.

Cheers Carrick, I'll try that if I'm unfortunate enought to encounter this rubbish again.

Why they don't patch the game to remove the glitch I don't know. I can't believe they don't know about it - surely they monitor the Xbox forums for feedback.

Easier said than done...does the game have a "Content download" section - I don't think it has. Thus chances are it can't be patched.

Several things about the game makes me thinks it's been rushed slightly. If only they'd given it a few more months...and perhaps it wouldn't have suffered from the Xbox Live overload we've experienced? I've missed out on certain games, just because I can't afford them all right now.

All in all I feel a little let down.

You dont need a Download Content option for the game to be patchable online. When you go online and it tells you that the game needs to download an update is all it needs to facilitate a gameplay patch.

Top Spin did this the first time I played it. There are certainly a few faults with the game in general but nothing to tarnish it completely. Played with the right people in tournaments it seems increadibly satisfying and whilst VT2 is more immediatly accesible the satisfaction of countering a strong opponent by using specific shot techniques is really quite special.

I agree as I reckon it need few more months of development

No widescreen support

No clue on DNA profile to create players

No Double Support on Live over 4 different XBOX

Too many lags

No option to switch Risk shot off

No mixed doubles too.

Single player game much too short.

Single player game much too easy.

And yes, the lag can be pretty bad at time. Their network coder should be slapped.

i think the main thing here is in Top Spin you really have to adapt your play, if you're opponent keeps drop shotting then don't be predictable, the only reason he's able to pull off drop shots is because his position is perfect, and he's read your game. Opponents simply can't pull off shots well if they're out of position, or time it wrong. put in a few risk shots, cross court top spin shots, keep changing the pace of your shots, and he'll "spoon" a few shots back at you, through mis timing.

I adapt my play pretty well already. I'm currently ranked in the top 100, with a 91% win ratio.

I know how to do drop shots, but this is not a normal drop shot: it's a cheat that exploits a glitch in the game. Normal drop shots do not hit the net and flop over every single time.

ok i must admit i've not seen that, but it sounds annoying!

did they do this drop to every different type of serve you gave them? even really wide risk serves?

As far as I can remember he was doing it on every Risk serve. I think the wide swinging slice & top spin serves were less prone to it, but if you do them all the time your opponent just risk shots it down the line, or top spins it cross-court past you. You need to vary your serves, and that's impossible when the other guy is cheating every time you hit a risk serve.

Fortunately I've still only encountered this once.

I hope a patch will be available soon. This kinda ruins the entire gameranking phenomenon.

By the way, uptil 2 weeks ago I my rank was around 1000, and I did pretty well.

No, I have dropped to 16.000 and I lose every single match. What has happened?!

Is it just me sucking really bad? Or did a Killer Guide appear on the net somewhere?

Has anyone experienced the same?

I've only ever won a single game online, out of about 8. Grr.

It's a proper, proper bitch at first. It's much more about working out the angles when you're online, it seems.

Having said that, I'm still crap at it. Getting better though.....

My pet hate is people who use the bloody attitude button AFTER EVERY SHOT. Leave it, please.

Yeah, that is very annoying ! It boils my blood everytime. :(

Topsin is a pretty frustrating game, isn't it... especially after your 5th consecutive loss ... AAAAARGH

Well, I'm still kicking arse, but then I play Top Spin far too much. :(:D

Seriously though, I have noticed a general rise in the quality of opponents. I've had tough matches off a few people ranked around the 1,000 mark recently. I just wish it would show you their ranking before the match.

i'm ranked 1300 ish at the moment, i find that anyone below me is usually very easy to dispatch, but as for above me i only face top 100 players (who win easily), where are all the 1500-800 ranked people?

People would just cherry pick their games if they did that though.

I like it as it is. There's nothing like fighting your way through a three set game, struggling for every point, only to find that they're ranked five thousand below you!

Maybe, but the current situation is problematic in different ways.

I haven't got any ranking points in the last week, because everyone I play is too low for me to earn any. There's no point doing a filtered search because you won't find a game. It's a no-win situation at the moment. I want to play some of the top players goddammit!

BTW, I went up about 30 places in the last week without earning any points. I suspect a load of people have had their stats reset. I'd be a little disappointed if they did that with mine. :P

I know! It's as though they have a finger permanently poised over the attitude buttons.

I'm ranked about 3,000 and I keep facing people ranked above me. Having said that I haven't played that much recently. I think it's one of those games that can be ruined by the slightest bit of lag and, mostly, by trash talking yanks.
