Thirded on Shadowrun Dragonfall, and I'll also add Shadowrun Hong Kong. Both excellent and very atmospheric cyberpunk RPGs and an absolute must if you loved the SNES orginal.

Not on Android anymore, sadly. They were delisted a few years back.

Had the faint inkling I nabbed these when they were free on Epic Store so they're downloading now :D

There is a hidden message on the latest trailer, as the 02:09 mark near the end, this appears

Someone on Reddit has transcribed so we all don't have to squint:

Spoiler

"The wait for Cyberpunk 2077 is almost over. It's been quite the journey, and first of all we want to thank all of you for being with us along the way. We know there's a fair amount of anticipation for the game, and very soon you will all be able to decide whether or not we lived up to the hype.

Launch day is always a mix of excitement and constant nerve-wracking, and with this being the first game we've developed that isn't titled 'The Witcher', we'd be lying if we said we weren't anxious to see what you think once you've sunk your teeth into it. With this launch trailer, we're just about ready to flick the switch and see Cyberpunk 2077 go from ours to become yours.

We set out to create our most immersive world yet, and we believe that the stories waiting for you to uncover, and the relationships you'll forge during your time in Night City, will stick with you for quite some time.

We've mentioned before that expansions will be coming, and while we're not ready to talk specifics just yet, we will say that we've learned a lot from our work on both Hearts of Stone & Blood and Wine. Our planned expansions will take you even deeper into the world of Cyberpunk 2077 offering substantial, story-driven content that'll give you tough choices to make through impactful narratives that you won't soon forget.

But before we get there, we'll first be kicking off our free DLC program in early 2021. Just like with The Witcher 3, expect an assortment of free DLC packs to begin hitting Night City, dropping a bunch of cool stuff that'll inject even more life into the world of the dark future. We hope you're looking forward to them!

We want to end this message with a request. Once you play/finished the game, we would love it if you got back to us and told us who your V was. Our forums and social media are there for you. We want to know how you found Night City and what choices you made. We created a huge world for you to jump into, tell us your story."

(though it may be argued to be space opera in the same way (the much missed) Iain Banks's work is, while both are focussed on the ramifications-of-post-humanism, rather than the noir-thrillers-in-corporate-hell of Gibson and his most recognisable imitators, Schizmatrix is still nihilistic, dystopian and focussed on 'the revolution' in a way which makes it identifiably cyberpunk in a way the messy utopia of the Culture isn't)

(also it has the word matrix in, so must be cyberpunk)

(yes, that means Commando is also cyberpunk by extension. No, I won't be taking any questions at this time)

You're a funny guy, Wiper. I like you...

Are we still having some sort of forum slap fight in here or has the fact parts of the game seem engineered to cause epileptic seizures been mentioned already?

Bloody hell, that’s surely illegal? They have to fix that before it harms someone.

Already talking up the DLC!

The game MUST be finished if they're doing that. Phew!

The trilogy as a bundle would be perfect for a console port and Game Pass. Sadly, they were bought up by Paradox under which they haven't done anything with the Shadowrun ip. Not even such basic shit as updating Returns and Shadowfall so that they're be available for purchase again on the Play Store.

Each game is standalone, so you can skip Returns. Weakest of the bunch by far, even though it has some fun callbacks to the SNES game. Dragonfall is the best, but Hong Kong is also fantastic imo. Start with Dragonfall, it the second in the series.

It’s egregious, but nothing legally wrong with it- there are requirements (Harding test?) for broadcast TV to pass, but nothing in games. The fact that a particular effect is extremely similar to a technique neurologists use to deliberately trigger seizures speaks to a lack of thought in the area though, and for a studio nominally obsessed with detail and polish, having so many triggers in one game is pretty poor.

As far as the epilepsy warning goes, I don’t think that cuts it in this case. It has a number of particularly dangerous light patterns. They should have put more thought into it.

I heard that Hong Kong dragged on a bit and they still didn't do anything interesting with the cyber side of things. It's what put me off getting it at the time, though I did pick it up when Epic gave it away. Because why not.

Schismatrix is not remotely cyberpunk. It’s a post humanism space opera.

You have made a grave and serious error here @Wiper. I invite you to delete your post, and when you have done so I will remove the quote to help cover your shame.

EDIT: Of course Bruce Sterling has written much cyberpunk stuff, but that’s not it. Shorts in Globalhead, novels like Holy Fire and Heavy Weather. Even the Leggy Starlitz shorts and Zeitgeist, or odd stuff like Caryatids is more identifiable as cyberpunk.

That's why games have that epilepsy disclaimer.

They usually have a generic disclaimer saying it may trigger epilepsy. Does this one says it uses flashing images specifically designed to trigger an epileptic attack?

Or at the very least bundled some cool new artificial optics to use instead of daft biological peepers.

Haha, thanks for posting this!

I fancied giving this a try after the comments up thread, and went to Steam, and almost pressed BUY, but was distracted.  Completely forget I already had it in my Epic library.

Do the games need to be played in order or anything?  Or am I good with just playing Shadowrun Dragonfall? - NM, answered a couple of posts back.

I loved it regardless, but I'm a total fanboy for the series due to the snes original blowing my mind as a kid. Dragonfall is the best one, so start with that. If you want more, Hong Kong is more of that and really good too despite its flaws. Hong Kong as a cyberpunk city is of course great.

I'll bite. What?

Haha there are collectable playing cards in the game and my photo ended up on one of them. Eutechnyx gave me my break into the industry like so can't whinge, and some of the staff are incredibly nice, talented people.

Ride to Hell however had some seriously questionable issues... And then there was the bugs...

A bit concerned about 5-10 second loading times on PS5. Why? Because I'm getting the game on base PS4, god knows how long the waits are gonna be without an SSD. Thankfully the main city streams so out in the world should be ok. In Witcher 3 on PS4 was the settlements and especially Norvrandt that really sucked for loading, because every building you entered or exited meant a long loading screen. And fast travel or loading save games was also terrible. I hope they have some nice pictures to look at and lore to read on those screens..

I'd still rather play Ride to Hell than watch Angry Joe though.

I thought he was a douche to begin with but grew to respect him even if I dont always agree with him or find him funny. Actually his reviews tend to have good points, plus I appreciate that he shows his enthusiasm or rage and isn't shy of expressing just how he felt about a game. Even though his style and humour don't really appeal to me I do like to hear his opinions on games.

Any used the game collection outlet on eBay before?

do they usually send before release? I bought this on the bay, before it was delayed and didn’t cancel.

Not used their ebay store before but you won’t get it early. They have said they were shipping today via Royal Mail 48 tracked for their main site orders so guessing their ebay site will be similar. They cannot deliver early due to signing street date agreement.

I will die on this hill. Yes, the incredibly important hill of genre definition.* I believe cyberpunk is broad enough to include Schizmatrix at its fringe (I've not read Sterling's other work, alas), which to my mind is but a half-step from cyberpunk towards space opera (as opposed to, again, the Culture novels' full stride over the threshold).

*while we're here, would anyone like to spin up the old argument about whether the original Deus Ex is an immersive sim, an RPG, or both? That's always good for a laugh.
