Cyberpunk 2077 - PS5 and XSeries versions out now + major patch

It looks fucking amazing at 4k on my 3080 but boy is the game shallow. I've had a blast playing it so far but its got absolutely no depth to it whatsoever. The vision was a mile wide but what's the point if its all superficial? Such a shame they released this in the state its in as I'm not sure a few DLCs can save this unless they decide to not add any new story and just fix all the stuff you'd think they have got round to doing over the last 8 years... like any kind of AI for the traffic, pedestrians, police for example! Nothing I do when I go on a rampage has any affect on the game world and the whole no stealing is bizarre. I would have totally supported just having the single neighbourhood of the city in the base game if it meant they could have actually put some depth into it and build outwards from there.

Some of the story missions in act 1 were amazing, is there any way to replay a single mission (apart from an old save)?

Also, after 20 hours of playing I've just realised you can zoom on in scopes using the d-pad

Just had the strangest experience. It foisted a bossfight of sorts on me in an early story mission. I'm a hacker techy crafter. I fired all of my rifle/sniper rifle/shotgun bullets and all of my grenades at it and used all of my health items. It still had half it's health bar left. I then had to fire 400 pistol bullets at it before it died. I couldn't use any of my hacking skills and I couldn't craft anything mid fight. I also couldn't save, and the most recent possible save was before a cutscene and a load of inventory management and another big fight. There was no opportunity to save between the most recent save and the boss appearing. Major Deus Ex vibes. Luckily I have the aforementioned junk skill so I could quickly make 1000s more bullets after the fight to replenish what I'd lost. But if I didn't happen to have 400 pistol bullets I would have had to reload the game and do a load of crap again. It had to stand in a spot where it couldn't hit me and fire through a gap for about 10-12 minutes.

In the tower after Jackie gets injured and you come down the elevator

Um

Spoiler

There’s the delamaij vehicle? I just ran straight for it and jumped in.

Certainly don’t remember a mech on that mission, or trying to fight in the garage.

Maybe I shouldn't have played Red Dead 2 just before this.

God Cyberpunk feels totally outdated in terms of NPC interactivity and AI. Despite the city being so dense it feels so lifeless and static compared to Red Dead.

Literally walking straight through NPCs and them not reacting or animating at all feels a generation behind what Rockstar achieved.

I'm hoping it grows on me as I'm only 6 hours in but it's definitely underwhelming so far.

Fuck me, this looks good. And fuck you for being able to play it looking like that.

How much would a PC capable of producing the above results cost? Asking for a friend.

This is the first game that’s made me think about buying a pc, too.

Got a refund from Microsoft.

I'm out until they remove the annoying yellow dot and also patch it for next gen.

Also, anyone else really dislike the female V voice-over? Sounds too video-gamey, like I've heard the actor in too many games or something. Just didn't like the performance at all. What's the male V performance like?

I don't like the male voiceover, it's just typical hacky macho voice

I'm playing this on a base PS4 and it's got obvious technical problems but the mood is cool and the customisation seems really deep. I just did the first bit of BD and that sequence was genuinely fresh and interesting and very much not just off the peg open-world stuff. Reminded me of Phoenix Wright (in a good way)

I suspect I'm shortly going to shelve the game for a while until things become a little bit more stable. There are moments that are genuinely great, but those parts are quickly forgotten when the next sodding bug/lapse in the AI (possibly) comes along and screws up my mojo.

Currently it would appear that by me manually equipping a gun, it decides that as soon as I leave my apartment the thing decides to vanish, and melee really isn't my strong suit at the moment ;)

It's such a strange duality going on with this game - next gen graphics is probably the only thing next-gen about it. The AI is absolutely stuck in PS4/XboxOne mode, and sometimes feels worse than that.

There's a good game lurking in here somewhere, for sure. However, it needs considerably more time invested in making it work before I invest more time in it to be honest.

What a ht fucking mess this game is and I'm not even talking about the bugs but the handling, the physics, the godawful UI, the insanely busy and unordered hud, this is like an alpha, it might be ok in a few years but fuck what an utter mess. I still really want to try and play it though because it's Cyberpunk and there are some good ideas in here but jesus did they fuck up the implementation of pretty much everything.

Yeah, the UI is absolutely fucking appalling. And this is something CDPR just have never got right in any of their games.

Witcher 3 gets a pass because it's one of the best games I've ever had the pleasure to play, but the menu system is shite.

Jesus, this has gone from day 1 to waiting for the next gen patch and now I'm thinking just wait the whole thing out and just pick up the GOTY edition in a year or so.

I know there are plenty of people enjoying it but with such a backlog of absolute stonkers still to play I'm not wasting time on what seems to be an unfinished product.

The bugs are fucking insane, I've got a high tolerance for them especially in ambitious games but they are undermining everything. Emotional cut scene ? Sorry, this character's guns are now glued to his hands. Loaded up a save? Don't forget to invert your controls again and turn all the visual effects off. I was talking to an important character in a bar and this guy comes in, his leg animation stops working and he glides across the room, through a table then glides straight through the window. It's like paper set dressing. They should have gone with hub worlds like Human Revolution did and streamlined everything. I've seen no real reason for this open world other than to fill it with an unsatisfying driving engine. There's no weight to it.

could have had giant pedestrianized hub zones and then some motorway driving zones while the next hub world loads or something. No point in driving around the city

According to my PS5 stats page I got 65 hours of playtime in Mankind Divided and it's single tiny hub world that was densely populated with content.

The main missions in Cyberpunk have been very good yet they have almost zero driving in them or the AI does it for you.

I've played the game for 10 hours but if you bought up the map and asked me to point out where the main missions took place I wouldn't have a clue.

"We're still playing Cyberpunk 2077 in order to bring you a finished review, but it's impossible to recommend picking this game up at launch on PS4 or PS4 Pro. On PS5 via backwards compatibility, there's still fun to be had — a glimpse of the game's excellent potential — but even then, it's crippled by bugs and crashing issues. There's something truly special at the core of Cyberpunk 2077, but in its current state, it's simply not good enough. So far, a colossal disappointment. [Review in Progress]"

Push square review. It's going to be interesting how the reviews pan out for the console versions, that's for sure. The PC version looks spectacular and that's not helping with the feeling of playing a drastically inferior product

I really haven't played too much, and when the atmosphere works it really works, but there's a lot of weird stuff that happened already and I'm not sure if the game is gaslighting me. Did Jackie actually go to the door that he's suddenly at? Is that Jackie's shadow painted on the door that he just walked through, like he was caught in some nearby nuclear explosion? I think I'm going to have to leave this for a bit.

Is every single open world game going to be held to the standards of the snoozefest that is RDR2? Regardless of if it even makes sense?

If that game had had complex branching narrative or fun gameplay I'd get it, but it wasn't even attempting either of those things.

yeah RDR2 is a beautiful world with fuck all to do in it and every single thing that occurs is tightly scripted. Ok you can fish and walk very slowly. I struggled to simply explore RDR2 without an objective in mind. Night City I could wander around in forever
