Also finding the aiming and aim acceleration is well off. Took me an age to dial that in to something remotely fun to play.

Yeah, the gunplay feels way off to me in both modes. I’m either aiming in slow motion or jerking about the place. Very difficult to draw a bead on anything. Plus ramping up vertical and horizontal sensitivity by even a little ramps them up a lot.

The options seem to be there to nail it all down, but if anything they’re a little too comprehensive. I look at things like dead zone sensitivity and am totally lost.

I’ve been playing on 30fps and don’t think it’s bad at all. I’ll caveat that with the fact that I’ve only played for about an hour and not tried 60fps yet :)

Sometimes 60fps can make things feel far too smooth and “fake” looking. I’m sure I’ll swap between the two but it’s not the vomit inducing hellscape that some people are making it out to be. It looks great!

I played through this on the Series S, and 30fps was both solid and fine. Gave things a little weight. I got a Series X and turned on 60fps mode and it just felt wrong - like kinda unreal. I had this with Dark Souls 2 last gen too.

Probably if you start at 60 and used to it, 30 will feel off.  But if you are starting there it's more than fine.

It's not. Both the PS5 and Series X should beat Stadia hardware (due to it being newer hardware, clearly more powerful in the case of the series x and the usual console efficiencies you get) until google upgrade their stuff. Although K's post seems network/video latency related. Current PCs are significantly ahead of the below. There might be some server scalability but from my own usage, the graphics/framerate you seem to get from Stadia games the below looks about right.

Hardware Stack

Custom 2.7 GHz hyperthreaded x86 CPU with AVX2 SIMD and 9.5 MB L2+L3 cache

Custom AMD GPU with HBM2 memory and 56 compute units capable of 10.7 teraflops

16 GB of RAM with up to 484 GB/s of performance

SSD cloud storage

The Stadia Reddit is full of people complaining that Cyberpunk looks considerably worse than it did before. This was all kicking off before the 1.5 patch as well, so I would assume Google have done something to the compression or something at their end to reduce costs.

Probably not going to do any hardware upgrades as well, with stadia going under. So, it’s series x then for me.

Oh no…I’ve not looked at it yet but that sounds shit. Although I’ve not noticed any downgrade in quality generally, but I am paying for the Pro sub so maybe that makes a difference.

They can assign more than one user to a hardware stack. Chances are as you say they are downsizing the hardware/servers used on their end because its a probably a flop financially.

For whatever reason about 25% of night city residents still drive around with only one headlamp on. That has to be a bug.

It’s not a bug! It just turns out that most cars in night city only have 1 headlamp on the front of their car. I’m not sure what the practical reasons are for this.

I thought you were looking to get a Series X at one point? You should do it, not only for this game, but with Stadia’s future not looking great as well. We could play some Halo again!

I was torn between replaying as a male corpo like last time, or trying out a female V with the nomad background, and I’m very glad I went with a female character - the opening mission on the nomad life path is fairly substantial and is much, much better than the corpo one which ended before it even got going. I quite like V’s voice as a woman too, she sounds pretty cool.

The game looks fantastic on Series X. I haven’t gotten past the first Night City mission yet, but I haven’t seen any glitches so far - Jackie hasn’t phased through any walls, and his guns remain visible at all times.

I’m undecided as to whether to play on performance or ray tracing mode. I’m not bothered by 30fps, and in fact quite like the chunky, hefty look it gives games - 60fps can sometimes look a bit too smooth and artificial to me. Plus, I feel like I owe it to the teenage K to play it with ray tracing on - when I played Cyberpunk 2020, ray tracing was this cutting edge technique you’d only ever see on those fractal landscape creators, where it’d take a couple of minutes to render a single frame. The idea of playing a game like this with actual real-time RT would have been mind blowing back in 1992, whereas the idea of 60fps would have been meaningless, so I’d be letting that scrawny nerd down if I didn’t turn the ray tracing on. But the game does feel a lot more responsive in the 60fps mode.

I think female v’s voice actor is better personally

Played a couple hours and really impressed with both performance and RT modes. The motion blue implementation is really nice in this.

Absolutely love the adaptive triggers for driving. Really minor but makes the driving feel great, even if it is heavy. Adds to the weight of it!

Visuals range from pretty good but sparse (if you go out your way, rooftops, some alleys etc). When it pops, it flipping pops. I think the whole image is usually amazing, and the art direction should be applauded.

Controls like a bag of moist socks, but with some tweaks it feels more to my tastes.

Can't comment on the RPG systems yet, but imagine it will be as it was before. I feel like they set themself a challenge that was a mountain on Mars implementing meaningful, fun upgrades into a first person shooter, but will reserve judgement.

Excited to dive back in tomorrow, just for the world alone. Anything else is a bonus.

i went back to the PS4 version to find my settings. Sorry for the phone shot. For me this makes headshots a breeze and rifles easy to control

Didn’t make a great first impression, when you have that impressive hi-detail character gen model, and then it cuts hard to some low-poly last gen in-game version in the corpo mirror. Bleh. But it improves. Not a fan of the JJ.Abrams lens flare either.

30fps was some nauseating, smeared shit though. 60fps is the only way. Also finding the aiming and aim acceleration is well off. Took me an age to dial that in to something remotely fun to play.

turn it off

I quite like driving around in cars now, watching the world go by.

didn’t you already play it though? IMO new players should be on foot unless you have a real hike. You miss 90% of the game’s content i.e. encounters, sound design, art design, atmosphere in a car.

hey if you’re a new player go get a free bike that you usually need to do a quest called The Highwayman for.

Spoiler

Go to the big traffic circle where the netrunner icon is, head northeast up the hill past the All Foods warehouse, turn left and drive/ jog past the All Foods fast travel point to the crossroads immediately after. If the fast travel point was on your right, at your 10/11 o clock across the crossroads should be a garage. You can remote hack the keypad to get a free (fucking sick) bike. You can summon it from this point forward. Just make sure you’ve met Jackie outside your building first. I only say this because the patch has made your car undriveable (for me, at least).

@ZOK if it helps, Far Cry 2 is on Series X through BC

I will for sure at some point, I just can’t justify it while Stadia is still running and I’ve got so many unfinished/unplayed games on it!

Really though my dream is that Microsoft decide to buy Stadia, stick Gamepass on it so they have a decent in-house streaming option and I don’t need to find space for another box…:sherlock:

Put some hours into this now, just hit act 2.

Initial thoughts:

The good:

- On Xbox series x it can, at times, look incredible

- it runs really well

- I like the story so far

- the art direction is superb

The bad

- at times it also looks really crap. It’s a wildly inconsistent game, graphically speaking

- the voice acting is 99% shite so far. Male V in particular is bad

- the driving feels bad

- the gunplay feels utter shit on default settings

- it takes control off you too much

- the world feels lifeless. I’ve recently been playing gta v and red dead redemption 2 and they both feel incredibly alive. This world, for as beautiful and well designed as it can be, feels dead.

- the corpo backstory might as well not exist. They set it up thinking you’re going to do this cool corporate espionage shit and then it ends abruptly and without warning. It feels so pointless. Don’t know about the others.

I tried an hour or so of this on PS5. It compares very favourably to the PC version. 30fps is unplayable, but the 60fps looks and feels good. It doesn't have quite the pop the PC version does, but it's not far off and it's largely going to be into Digital Foundry style comparison porn levels of analysis for most people to notice many differences.

The pad controls and haptics are weird and I'd need to spend time fiddling with them - I anticipate hundreds of Youtube videos outlining ideal control set ups within days.

But, certainly if you'd been holding out playing it until the next-gen versions are out then I think it's time to pull the trigger (especially at 20 quid). I did get an audio bug in the first hour, but by and large it seemed pretty robust.

Is one of the backstories considered better/more interesting than the others?

Like @Doctor Shark above, started corpo but still early enough to sack it off and pick a different one.

Corpo is astonishingly short - it's not much more than "walk into a room, perhaps walk into another room and access a computer, get in a car, sit in a bar" then merge into the other stories. Spoiler on the merge point:

Spoiler

If you've found a body in a bathtub, you're in the merged timeline across all three stories.

Nomad is a bit longer and you actually have to do something, if that helps. Not tried Streetrat.

I don't think it makes a huge difference after the first half an hour or so. You get a few extra dialogue options throughout the game, but it's mainly just for role-playing I think. I really enjoyed playing as an ex-Arasaka suit slumming it in the underworld, but it doesn't affect the actual game much.

Has anyone done the street rat intro? Almost everyone seems have done corpo or nomad.

Street rat was my one; didn't want to be a suit, and preferred the idea of starting as a local rather than an outsider. I enjoyed the background well enough, it felt 'right' for the character, but then all of the backgrounds are slight enough to allow for pretty easy integration.

The Corpo backstory might be short, but all the backstories are completely irrelevant in terms of gameplay. I’d say you probably get more interesting dialogue choices for Night City’s world as a Corpo, but when you’ve played tens or hundreds of hours of campaign and side missions you won’t give a toss what ‘origin’ your character had.

@Thor you know they even rebalanced weapons and skill threes. I think the real answer here is to replay on PC bud. Even if you played in December.

Regarding this. I remember complaints about certain perks (probably quick hacks) basically putting you in "god mode" and making the combat near trivial. Is this still the case then? And if so, which perks should I avoid pumping too many points into?

yes it’s the best one for me in terms of role playing. Corpo is too short and while Nomad is a good intro it just didn’t feel “me.” Streetkid makes you a part of the underworld, and you get a sweet car ride with a nice old man in the beginning.

quickhacking was essentially game-breaking after a while and for me it made the game really dull. Because you basically find a camera and then click delete on everyone to kill them. Murder by proxy

Unless they’ve seriously rebalanced it you’ll find it happens anyway. The only real way to avoid it is not to spend any perk points on combat.
