Cyberpunk 2077 - PS5 and XSeries versions out now + major patch

I wasn’t thinking about my dialogue choices and locked myself out of at least one mission I know of - I pissed off a major side character and prevented a whole mission from even happening.

It would have been very obvious though - I was just being thick.

Spoiler

I told Saul about Panam’s heist. Doh!

I kinda like the fact that you can miss stuff.  Obviously most players are going to see most stuff if they play to completion, but the fact that you can't see everything adds to the depth, surely?  It doesn't just feel like ride, there's a sense of Night City being an actual place.

I've had a couple of days off of work hammered it for a bit last night and again today while everybody was out and I'm in deep.  Just spent quite a bit of time outside in the Badlands and it's great out there too.  Story is coming along, I've finally spent some money at the Ripperdoc and the photo mode continues to be glorious.  My character still dresses like a tramp though.  Need to so something about that at some point.

Ignore stats, and dress for photo mode. It’s the only way to play.

Guys I bought it and I LOVE it. I spend all

my eddies on ridiculously expensive clothes and apartments and I look so preem I’m gutted I can never really see my character because I look amazing.

I spend most of my time spreading poison through gangs and sniping peoples heads off. Brilliant.

One thing I hate though is the ‘sexy’ advertising everywhere. It’s so cringeworthy and it makes me embarrassed to be playing it sometimes.

load an old save. This is unacceptable. Not only have you betrayed your most stalwart ally but you have missed out on some of the best character development / story / intimate friendship moments in gaming history

It’s not so bad when viewed through the lens that, with Night City, someone turned the dial marked ‘neoliberalism’ to eleven. Gratuitous advertising is just another symptom of that, along with the literal rubbish mountains; corporate manipulation and interference; cyber psychosis etc.

That's true, but there are ways of highlighting and criticising corporate sexism, objectification of women, and gratuitous nudity in advertising that don't involve indulging in those things on a massive scale. it's like Blade Runner 2049 - I'm sure Denis Villeneuve intended to use all the female nudity in the film as a commentary on society's treatment of women rather than for titillation, but the end result both ways is that the film is full of gratuitous images of naked women. If your polemic against the objectification of women also functions as soft porn, then you may need to rethink your approach.

Plus, the grim crassness of the advertising in Cyberpunk really is turned up to eleven. The ad for "Watson Whore" is absolutely gross, and it's all over the place. I get why this stuff is in there, but I think it could have been handled more sensitively or subtly.

I actually thought it was disturbing, not cringe. And it really made me pessimistic about the future because that's where we are heading.

I just wish there was more variety in the advertising. It’s always that stupid head made of fruit or whatever it is.

HATE YOUR MEAT? is my least favorite

regarding the earlier Panam mission - it’s not the second coming of Jesus but it is really fun and nice, and has longer implications

I honestly can’t recall Blade Runner 2049 being chock full of naked women, bar a couple of prominent scenes like the Joy advertisement. And that was one that struck me as sad, rather than soft core porn.

I guess where we differ is that I think some things cannot, or shouldn’t, be communicated in a subtle fashion. Cyberpunk’s world is profoundly sleazy and rotten to its core. You encounter so many characters in the game who are broken by this. It’s an echo of works like Fahrenheit 451, where Montag cannot escape the ever present bawl that tries to shape his thoughts when he’s in public.

It reminds me of when I visited New York. Walking through Times Square, surrounded by flashing billboards and advertising on every side, I turned down a side street and the tension just drained out of my body. My teeth ached because I’d been unconsciously gritting them. There’s a similar kind of feeling, albeit not as intense, when you leave Night City and travel into the Badlands. Only then do you realise the city had you slightly on edge the entire time.

Having experienced that, I can easily see Cyberpunk’s world reaching such grotesque extremes. It’s offensive, gratuitous, and demeaning but to try to moderate or tamp it down would rob the game of an important impact.

I can no longer play this on my PC. It keeps randomly crashing to the desktop, and the frequency of crashes is too often to put up with it. Shame, I fancied another playthrough to see all the extra stuff, but I've tried everything including scrapping all my old saves and creating a completely new, mod-free install of the game - same issue. It's just fucked and needs fixing by CDPR. 🤷‍♂️

Edit: I just knew once I'd posted about this, I'd find a fix. It would appear GOG Galaxy is the issue. If I launch directly from the .exe in the game's folder, thus bypassing GOG, it runs fine.

I just got finished with my 130 hour playthrough last week, so I don't think I'll need the patch. I just put the game away now. I see that some bugs I encountered have been fixed, but they aren't really the worst bugs, just minor annoyances. I had lots of other worse bugs that usually required reloading a save.

What's the damage, patch size wise? I've seen people say the patch is 1GB on GOG and PS5, but 26GB on Series X.

yeah I saw a video. I think he has several different phases and you can’t just delete his health bar with Problem Solver like I did last time.

He's way more aggressive in following you around. Definitely more fun.

What is this ‘meth’? Anyone who has spent any time in Night City should be familiar with the heavy facial scarring that is relatively common as a result of the outbreak of the zoonotic disease Rat Fever in 2072.

I think consoles only have ray traced shadows, the reflections are all cube maps.

I’m still loving it.  I’ve still not got any huge insight to offer, it’s just a fun world to run around in. I hadn’t quite realised just how big Night City was when I last posted, I fear I’ll not see everything even if I play for a hundred hours.  Also, I think style over stats is the way to go with gear. Certainly in the mid game.
