Cyberpunk 2077 - PS5 and XSeries versions out now + major patch

I haven't tried it yet, but the transmog stuff sounds really cool. Apparently, you choose six separate outfits that go into specific slots, and then once one of those outfits is selected, it doesn't matter what clothes you choose, you'll just be wearing that outfit. So you can chop and change gear according to its stats without affecting your actual look.

I like the idea of having a slick corporate outfit for when you visit the Peralez', a tactical turtleneck jumper for infiltration, a short-sleeved outfit to keep me cool in the desert for hanging out with the Aldecados, etc.

You know, some of the side quests and gigs are more captivating than the main story. Some excellent stuff in there including the political couple and the prisoner.

Yup, completely agree with that. You can find more actual cyberpunk flavour in the side stuff than in the main story (which only has some shock and awe ideas in there).

Buy the run-down Northside apartment as your base, do gigs, hunt cyberpsychos, and you can almost pretend to be a Count Zero wannabe.

It's such a weird product. I completed Horizon 2 shortly after it launched and thought it was extremely bland: suffering from open-world bingo and sequel-itus. Highly polished but my goodness was I bored. I don't think I ever felt any sort of reaction to any of it, just sat through it all looking like 😐

Cyberpunk 2077 is much less polished, filled with bugs and general clumsiness, has content you can skip (crafting, the whole cyber implants thing) yet I am much more invested in it all. I think I prefer emotional peaks and valleys over a flat plain.

The political couple is a high point of the game. I wanted DLC about that.

Edit: It's so creepy and mysterious, and made me care.

I do think I botched that one prematurely.

Spoiler

I told the guy to keep fighting and the last thing that happened was me sending him a text that returned a "can not find recipient" message. I do hope it continues.

Nope, that's pretty much it.

Have you ever met a person and you cant decide if you find him/her attractive or hideous? Cyberpunk is like that, it has character. I haven't played Horizon 2, but it looks very bland. Very vanilla. Very Ubisoft. Maybe you're just getting tired of the same old formula?

Oh 100%.

I'd recommend Horizon 2 over Cyberpunk 2, Horizon 2 is Ubi-bloat bland but man if you're on the market for that it's absolutely perfect. Cyberpunk is never perfect for anything really, there's so much wrong with it and I like sometimes even love it.

Gonna rinse the hell out of my first play through, highly doubt I'll do a second and third.

I think it’s neat they gave important characters you meet closure. Just finished River’s story. There’s no actual need to go through all the effort of animating, voice acting etc when they could have settled for a simple “Thanks for everything V. Farewell.” text.

Nearing the end of this - just passed the Point on no Return - and am torn. Not sure what to make of this. The modern Deus EX games do cyber implants much better, Night City is rich in detail yet incredibly dull (reminded me a lot of L.A. Noire), the story grinds to a halt and that tickling clock element is ignored for the longest time. My biggest complaint is that my V. does not feel like a person with cybernetic implants. I'm James Bond with a tech device that can hack cameras.

Back to the modern Deus EX, those games embrace implants and you can play around with different approaches. Every skill is valuable and adds something worth while. Right now in Cyberpunk 2077 I've like 6 skill points and about 20 talents points waiting to be spend. But nothing seems worth it at this point when all I ever really need is my sniper rifle (and shotgun during boss fights) and the camera hacking.

V. has one cybernetic implant and it's the one from the tutorial. I don't even know where two find more implants. Also, I have not bothered with gear in the longest time, it seems a complete after thought. Same for the ridiculous amount of weapons and attachments. I swear I've like 8 weapon scopes that give like 0.4% zoom... Then there's the apartments that seem useless, the many cars you can collect for no good reason (there's no garage to display em in).

I had a fun time with it for sure and will never play this again. One Nomad run is good enough. Completed all the gigs and side quests (apart from the NCPD ones, far too many of those).

Overall, I enjoyed myself with it. Would not recommend it though, it's such a weird beast.

Right... I've just spent 100 hours polishing off the Forbidden West platinum/100% and I think it might be time to finally crack open the cellophane on my pre-order copy of this before Ragnarok comes out (or I fall head first into an Elden Ring shaped hole).

I'm assuming with the patches, etc... it is basically fixed for PS5 now? I've basically avoided any significant discussion about it after the first week of launch as I was pretty hyped for it and didn't want to burst the bubble.

Big spoiler for ending choice:

Spoiler

No way in hell I am teaming up with Panam lol. So I let Johnny take control and kind of hope he messes up Night City beyond recognition. Apart from Judy and River there's nothing worth saving.

It'll give you a chance from Point of No Return to play the other Endings. Worth it.

CP's world building is on another level. H2 is just a game world in my eyes, like the Ubisoft worlds. CP feels like a real place and the writing -especially compared to H2- is also on another level. Everyone feels like a real person, same style more or less like the W3.

And finished. That’s enough, not interested in the other endings. Not sure what ending I got, the emotional vibe did not work on me at all.

Spoiler

Chose to cross the bridge and live in cyberspace forever. Whatever that means.

I don't think CP is anywhere near the level of world-building that Witcher 3 was. The city itself is most definitely a thing of wonder. It's just a huge pity it's populated by hundreds and hundred of morons wandering around doing absolutely nothing of note. It feels utterly fake to me. Sure the characters you meet up with and deal with from a gameplay point of view are great, but I think the atmosphere of Night City is significantly destroyed by the systems they've used for crowds.

Novigrad remains the greatest city in a game for me by a huge margin.

Plus...why the FUCK am I STILL the only bastard in the city who owns a bike? These things upset me in a completely irrational way, but...ARGH! Fucking bastard details. The whole game is absolutely riddled with these little atmosphere-destroying things for me.

I wish I was not so anally retentive :( .

I can’t agree with this obviously, but a genuine criticism that undermines the stunning achievement that is Night City has to be the ‘vehicles’ in the distance.

I was playing Saints Row 3 the other day, which is easily over a decade old, and somehow the devs there managed to incorporate real traffic that eventually disappears into the distance and can be interacted with until it does, rather than streams of 2D cutouts that vanish as they get anywhere near you.

How the C2077 devs couldn’t get this basic function right in 2020 with all the money in the world is a complete mystery.

I think you're missing out. Some of them are very good. And there's quite a bit of gameplay to get there too.

I never said that CP's world building is better than W3. W3 remains the most accomplished open world ever along with RDR2. And Novigrad is the best city ever, as a whole. Bit NC is more convincing as a real place because of the architecture.

Also, I don't get the issue with the NPCs. Bugs aside, they are as stupid as the general NPC in GTAs. RDR2 only wins in this department because of its incredible wildlife simulation.

I think the NPCs are a pain in the arse to be honest. If you're going to make this hugely dense city and make it feel like a proper living 'thing', then they really needed to have far more variety in their animations and what they are doing. Obviously, that's a colossal undertaking and I wouldn't envy them the prospect of doing something like that, mind!

I forgot about RDR2. I feel dirty, and I apologise to the forum, and everyone should feel free to ignore me forever.
