I'm about to finally start playing this. Reading all the impressions I think I will enjoy it a lot despite the flaws, they don't seem like huge issues to me. Looking forward to arriving in Night City. Any tips for a beginner?

Take it slow, explore the city on foot before you get stuck into the main narrative. I tend to clear Watson of side content before I meet Vik or Jackie. The city was designed to be explored on foot - the devil is in the details and you don’t get a sense of what a labyrinth it is from a vehicle.

Takes a while to get going properly - the open world aspect doesn't kick in for quite some time. Give it some time after that before sacking it off. Enjoy just being in the city. Do the side quests. Don't spend a lot of cash on vehicles.*

*But buy the bike. The bike - everyone buys that.

Alternately get the free bike :)

Just played through the intro on my Series X (twice, because I wanted to respec). Whatever failings this may have later on, what I've seen so far in terms of atmosphere and world detail is just incredible. This is the first game I've played on Series X that feels proper next gen to me. Even if this gets buggy or unbalanced I will most likely still greatly enjoy playing it just to be in this amazing world.

I think the NPCs are a pain in the arse to be honest. If you're going to make this hugely dense city and make it feel like a proper living 'thing', then they really needed to have far more variety in their animations and what they are doing. Obviously, that's a colossal undertaking and I wouldn't envy them the prospect of doing something like that, mind!

I forgot about RDR2. I feel dirty, and I apologise to the forum, and everyone should feel free to ignore me forever.

Thought i'd pop in as ive just started playing this again. This game is wonderful.

I thought the float mission did a Stirling job at giving them impression of crowds, their LED/Holo-clothes and general feeling of being in some huge event. No game has ever done that to my knowledge. Not like this.

In fact the float mission was one of the most amazing missions i've ever played when you see it all in 4k HDR.

Glorious.

Don’t worry about the tutorial being garbage. Don’t worry about none of the systems making any sense. Wear clothes that you think look cool, rather than for the buffs they give.

The latest patch allows you to wear any combination of clothes you own as an outfit while still having the benefits of the most powerful gear you have. Just equip the powerful gear and then select an outfit to look however you want.

Didn’t realise I was so close to the end of the story and hit the point of no return. May as well :)

The game makes you a save there, so when done you can go back in, and try a different end!

How do I effectively use hacking? I'm not specialising in it, I want to use it as an assist, but when do I use it? And on what? And which early hacks are good?

I bought a hack that should make all nearby enemies weaker for 3 minutes but I didn't actually see it in the list of hacks when I was in a battle just now.

Have you fitted it into your deck? You’ll have a certain number of slots in your cyberswede doohickey, and you can only use the hacks you have slotted.

Yeah, it turns out I have to do the breach mini game before I can use it. Any tips for that BTW? I'm terrible at it.

Anyway, I've been playing this all afternoon, just finished with the heist mission and the story stuff after. I love it! I'm slowly tailoring my V to fit with my 'try to be stealthy but fuck up and kill everyone anyway'. Haven't had any bugs so far, everything's running very smooth.

Just run the square over the numbers you need until the boxes light up…I don’t think there’s any trick to it. I look at the combination required numbers, not the ones in the breach box.

Can one playing on series x with the new patch answer a few questions?

are most of the bugs now fixed?

the traffic in the distance/turning corners used to vanish; is it fixed?

any good improvements you have noticed?

cheers

In order:

Yes. There are still a few, but no more than any other major open world game.

It's 90% fixed. You can still see it happen sometimes as the "fake" cars in the distance transition into proper 3D models, but it's much, much better than it was before the 1.5 patch.

Almost too many to mention. The economy and difficulty have been rebalanced, so the game is more of a challenge and money is more meaningful. There are many, many adjustments to the structure, so that missions get doled out as you progress rather than getting dumped on you in one huge avalanche of content. You can buy apartments to live in, some of which are beautiful. The crowd density is much higher. Vehicle handling is hugely improved. The new throwing knife mechanic is amazing. The world is much more alive, with metro trains running around and police chases happening around you. Etc.

I can't compare to how it was before, but I'm about 10 hours in and the missions and side missions come naturally. So far I've always had a main mission, 5 or 6 side missions of which some would be too high level and some vehicle purchasing stuff going on. It feels nice, enough choice but not overwhelming.

Yeah the world feels quite lively. I'd say it's pretty similar to GTA V in terms of the amount of npcs walking about. I haven't seen too many random events other than the scripted ones though.

Finally saw it through to the end — there was a lot more game than I’d bargained for, which was good.

Ended up:

Spoiler

Riding off into the sunset (tunnel) with the Aldecaldos to start a new life with Judy.

Now to go back and do the million missions I have left.

Was give one dollar in amongst my completion rewards. A bug or a troll from CDPR?

Okay, this has its hooks in me now. Played a couple of hours today, and feeling much more drawn into the world. The main jobs I’m doing are still in the tutorial phase. Enjoyed the BD one, is fun scoping around the feed. Met Jackie, Dex, Evelyn and Judy. Eve’s offered a proposal. Will have to think on that one.

Had a few floating objects but nothing majorly buggy. The floating takeaway bag I just waved away as something the future will have anyway.

Home alone for two weeks in October. Had planned to get Horizon Forbidden West, may do anyway, but also see Cyberpunk getting a good few hours of play. Just need to book a few days off to completely lose myself in it.
